Hi Folks,

Since this is not a technical issue or bug I thought I would post in the general forum.

I am looking to buy a new PC (desktop). My main desire is to ensure I will have enough power and hardware to run all the current and future IL2 Great Battles titles (as well as Flying Circus) on Ultra settings with little or no issues.

Do you folks think the PC below will accomplish this?  Thanks in advance for any insight or advice- jg1234

-CPU Processor  - - 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-10700KF processor(8-Core, 16M Cache, 3.8GHz to 5.1GHz)

-Video Card - - NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2060 SUPER™ 8GB GDDR6

-System RAM - -  32GB, 2x16GB, DDR4, 2933Mhz

-Hard Drives (Dual) -- 512GB PCIe M.2 Solid State Drive +1TB SATA 7200 RPM HDD

-Sound - - onboard sound

-Operating System - Windows 10 Home, 64-bit

-Most likely monitor resolution -- 1920 x 1080

Hi jg:salute:.   You could post in this part of the forum

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/forum/18-hardware-software-and-controllers/

but no worries as I have a feeling this thread will shortly be transferred there anyway.

My pennies worth?  If you're going to invest in a top-spec cpu and decent amount of RAM then I'd really, really go with a much better graphics card than a RTX2060. I'd go for at least a 3060, if you can get one yet.

Also, I'd go for all SSD's these days rather than a HDD.  However, a better graphics card would be my priority.  Good luck and I hope this helps.

Just saying that for 1080p this is not really necessary IMO. I'm running over 100fps most of the time on my 1440p with a 1070.

But a good graphics card certainly makes sense if you want to upgrade you monitor in the near future. 1080p is too low res for me personally.

I'd go with a bigger SSD. 1TB or even  2TB. Maybe get a 2TB M.2 SSD and remove the second HDD.

Il-2 doesn't need that much storage now, but with a better system, you may be tempted to try DCS or FS2020, or both.  You'll need a lot of storage for those.

And i agree with @DD_Arthur  about the graphics card. Get something more powerful.

Are you assembling this yourself or buying a prebuilt system?

The configuration is easily powerful enough to run Il-2 with Ultra settings at 1920x 1080 for the foreseeable future, but the components don't seem ideal for performance or value.

Firstly, I'd get rid of the 1TB HDD. Mechanical drives don't really make sense for gaming when a large SSD with far better performance would be fairly inexpensive.

Depending on your source, there is a possibility that you could cut some costs and improve performance by choosing a different CPU and RAM.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the quick replies and great advice. I really appreciate it.

I am buying a prebuilt system. I will see if I can afford a bigger Solid State Drive and better video card.

Is it worth it to pay the extra $100-150 for 3070 instead of the 3060?

That is more than plenty for just a 1080p monitor.

I upgraded in October.  I7-10700K, Gigabyte Z490 Elite MB, 16G of Patriot 4400Mhz RAM.   I used my existing 750W PS, and had a few SSDs, with the most recent being a Samsung 860EVO.

At first as I was assembling what I wanted to build,  the 3080/70,etc. cards were going to be introduced, also the 6800 AMD cards were in the horizon.  But my price point was a little bit lower.  I looked at the 2060 Super, but I saw that the RX 5700 XT was a cheaper and probably better option.  That was on my radar.

When I started seeing the 30XX cards were starting to be a supply problem, and such a big need, something inside told me to find a RX 5700 XT quick as I was hedging that Christmas time would cause a big run on video cards.   I was lucky to find a used one on Amazon for $350, my strike point, and I think the price for a 2070 at the time.

I also had the opportunity to return the card up until Jan 31 of this year.  So...I've been looking at card price drops for the past two months or so....but alas, it has gone all the other way, and stock is very hard to find.

I think you may run into this issue.  But going back to your question...you should be alright with the system, but as everyone has alluded to, a better GPU would be advantageous.  I recommend the RX 5700 XT.   That will be a better card....but again, it may be hard to find.

Good luck with your build.

Are you willing to share your region or name the retailers that you'd prefer to buy from? Perhaps someone could recommend a specific system.

It can be difficult to give advice without knowing what's actually available to you.

 Hi Mitthrawnuruodo

Sorry for the late response. I live in Pennsylvania, United States. I am looking at Dell G5 gaming systems. My budget is very strict at around 1400 - give or take, so I am still leaning toward the RTX 2060 Super video card, but trying to see if I can possible increase the size of my SSD drive.

Thanks again for all the assistance - jg1234

I think the GPU is fine for BoX, but I'd try to make it one 1gig SSD over the other option. Having said that, I actually run the 500meg SSD + 1 gig HDD myself, and it is okay if a bit limiting. Indeed, my HDD is external as USB 3.0 is fast enough for my docs and spreadsheets. One day I'll add another SSD when I'm better off, but right now I'm running BoX and DCS from the SSD, and IL2:1946 from the HDD without problem.

However, if you're running a bunch of games then you will certainly need a bigger SSD.

Dell G5 Gaming Desktop | Dell Canada

Get this, it's a 3070 and will even run IL2 in VR very well.  It's in Canadian so should be $1400 U.S.

Edit: Get the 10700KF though so you can over clock it down the road...
