NightFighter Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 (edited) Bf110 G2 Night Fighting Mission - Defence of Cologne Take off from St.Trond airfield and climb to bomber stream level, and engage RAF night bombers over the Ruhr, defending your cities during the dark night. Follow in the footsteps of WWII night fighter pilots, where the enemy isn't the only thing that can kill, the darkness can too. Take off and fly to 5000m, where you will either engage a large stream of B-25s or a small force of Pathfinder Mosquitos (A-20b). Use the map as radar; the enemy bombers will appear within the radar circles. Use it to get in close and go to visual for the kill. Night fighting is a niche topic in Il2. The night fighter community is not very big, but it is there. These missions try to simulate night fighting to the best of the sims ability, and although we do not have radar, we can use a ground based "radar" as a substitute. Big thanks to Sketch for all his help, and of course JimTM and his manual. I have only started learning the editor for about 3 weeks now, so point out my mistakes and let me know. Bf110g2-NightFighter.zip Me262 Night Fighting Mission - Anti-Mosquito (A20b) Operations In 1945, the mosquito pathfinder and bomber squadrons prove too much of a task for the Nactjagdgeschwader's Ju 88's and Bf 110's to handle. Single engine fighters are fast enough, but lack the night flying capabilities and radar of the dedicated night fighters. Hauptmann Kurt Welter commenced night fighter sorties using the Me 262. Originally using the single seat day fighters, they soon transitioned to the trainer variant, the Me262-1a/U1, which were converted to night fighter duty by adding radar, a radar operator (hence the trainer version) and an increased fuel load. They were designated Nactjagdgeschwader 11. There main targets lay in Mosquitos, but they shot down a large number of four engined heavies as well. By the end of the war they had claimed 43 mosquitos (as well as a similar number of Lancasters) A number of problems with the legitimacy of the mission; NJG 11 operated way farther east, but the map we have isnt even close. So I picked one of the most North-Eastern airfields on the map that was still long enough for jets, Hopsten airfield. Hopsten, when you see the long runway, will make sense, as landing an Me 262 in the dark is difficult. *I didn't add airfield or city objects as I did in the Bf110 mission. Not only does it make the file a lot smaller, but you cant see them in the night anyway* Me262 - NightFighter.zip Edited January 27, 2021 by NightFighter 1 7 3

Raptor341 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Could I recommend a set of missions for the Mosquito when it comes out - also, does anyone know if PWCG can simulate night missions or careers. With the Ju-88C-6 and Mosquito that could be a reality

With the Ju-88C-6 and Mosquito that could be a reality I know that I have been able to fly some night missions in my Ju 88 career, so it is definitely possible in the career. But, to the extent of using radar for intercepts or what not, I do not believe that it is implemented, nor have the devs said anything about plans for implementing it. NightFighter Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 (edited) Yes @Raptor341. Sorry to leave that out, but I have many misisons planned for the Ju88C-6 and Mosquito. With the new "channel map" we can have Night Fighter Mosquitos not only intercepting Ju88 and He111 bombers, but also Jabo Fw190 and Me410's. Another interesting aspect would be a night intercept of a V-1 flying bomb. The flame trail from the engine would mean you could see it without radar. For the Ju 88C-6 I have two ideas, a similar one to this mission of the Bf110, and an early "intruder" during the Blitz, where they blended into RAF bomber streams and then attacked airfields. @Q_Walker, Jason has said that we might never get radar. I forgot the post, but he responded to someone and said something along the lines of "radar is not being planned as of now or in the future". I had high hopes before that but now I dont know. Hopefully one day we can get radar. That way we might also get a Lancaster for targets, which would make the bomber boys happy. A win win. But yeah, thats what im trying to do here, making missions to bypass the fact that we dont have radar. Hopefully we can either build the night fighter community to lobby for a night fighter DLC or collecter plane with radar, or at least just make missions that can simulate it to the best of the sims ability. easterling77 Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Thanks for this ? And if we wont get airborne radar I think with this "ground stations" we got a good replacement - would definetly enjoy more NF-Missions for the upcoming airplanes. Keep it up! 1
NightFighter Posted January 27, 2021 Author Posted January 27, 2021 *New* - Added an Me262 night fighter mission. Got inspiration from Nactjagdgeschwader 11.
