The SPAD boys went out to celebrate Rummell's birthday with some good old fashioned Hun-Hunting. We ended up having quite the sortie...

That was a great start to the map! I was one of the Bristols escorting the recon. We had a total of 3 Bristols, 4 SE5's and a Camel, with all but the actual recon on comms on the FlugPark discord. The flight out to the target was pretty uneventful asides from that Dr1 from J133. We had some navigation issues when we climbed into the clouds, but managed to collect the photos. It was around that time that Jerry sent up his interceptors since we were pinging the airfield pretty heavily. Looking at the flight track, I counted 4DVII's, 2DVIIF's, 3 Pfalz's, 2 Dr1's, 1 Alby, and a  Halby strung out along our flight home climbing at various altitudes. The recon (Thompson from No.20, I think) climbed into the clouds and gunned it while most of the escort got into a running gunfight (and I mean running for home). I stayed just below the clouds to stay visible and lure any pursuers away from the recon. Imagine my dismay to find a swarm of enemy planes in front of me! Fortunately, I saw a number of friendly Americans engaging, so I made a pass on an Albatros and let my gunner open up on the furball. I turned around to take a look at the fight, then backed off when I realized I'd probably get in the way more than helping and the presence of a "recon" might ramp up the pressure on you guys. When you guys regrouped back over friendly lines, I turned back to assist a Camel fighting a pair of Pfalzes. They jammed half of my elevator full up, so I tried a trick I heard from No 20: shoot off the jammed control surface so the remaining one can work freely. I took a few shots with the pistol, but the Huns finished the job for me. Of course, they took a bit more than I intended: the other half of the elevator flew off as well. I did see a glimpse of a blue tailed SPAD before the whole world turned upside down. The video shows just how close you got to that yellow-tailed Pfalz, and I appreciate the lengths you went to attempting to rescue me. The plane seemed to nose down pretty heavily with no elevator to control, so I rolled over onto my back to level off. It worked well enough that my gunner opened fire again until I set the plane down as soft as possible. I walked away without a scratch, although I think the Bristol was considered a total loss.

That was one amazing birthday bash! Happy birthday Rummel, and salute to all the participants, knowing and unknowing.

Awesome! Cool to hear what the British Reccie got up to while we were off chasing the enemy reccie! @gascan Good to see you got down in one piece (the pilot, that is!), and bloody good piloting to land a Bristol with its whole horizontal stabiliser shot off!!!

Side note: It looks like I'll have to update my skin folder in FC!

I haven't finalized my skins yet. I'm still finding things that need tweaking (the blue is just a tad bit too light on the Bristol, I need to change the angle on the stripes I put on my Camel's struts so they match the engine cowling, and I'm making custom camo shapes for the SPAD so it's not just a clone of the template). Still, I really do need to finish them up and publish them.

That was a great recon mission, Never had so many escorting, Kind of made ne a bit nervous I'd screw up and disappoint you all. Plus I placed my self in the cloud and came out way north of the target. When I got back to base we had a d7 follow us, almost got me on the ground. SOB.  Then the bombing was a job and a half. They made it hard as hell but we finished it thanks to rubberducky.

Good job on getting it done!

And S!  to the Jasta boys as well. Seeing the two Reconnaissance formations simultaneously crossing the lines, and later seeing them clash in a big furball was one of the coolest sights I've seen in FC to date.
