HunDread Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 When I go anything lower than High Preset / High Clouds, even if I lower any of the two just one step down like high preset-med clouds or balanced with high clouds, the clouds are shimmering, flickering, pixelating. It is simply so bad to look at them that it is not playable for me that way. Since I do not really see complaints about this I would like to see if this is only happening to me or everyone else, and whether it is depending on other settings. I use a CV1 with no SS and 2x MSAA Landscape filter is blurred and sharpen is on This is mostly in preparation for the HP G2 with which I will have to reduce my graphics settings. So anyone else has this issue? Thanks
firdimigdi Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 (edited) Just tried it on the Rift S both with high preset/med clouds and balanced preset/high clouds: The distant clouds are blocky and have some shimmering while, more distracting when over bodies of water, their reflection will flicker quite a bit. Hartigan Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 It happens to me too. Can´t really decide which is better to have. Shimmering distance clouds and much better performance or a way better clouds but fps halved to 45
HunDread Posted October 3, 2020 Author Posted October 3, 2020 Thanks @Firdimigdi and @Hartigan Both of you mentioned distant clouds. How distant do you mean? For me it is only the clouds right around me that are not flickering. Maybe up to 1k or so, not sure. Anything outside this small bubble looks bad. Best way to see it with quick mission with cloudy setting spawning above cloud level. After sunrise or before sunset time makes it worse. On high preset I still see flickering but only on so far away clouds that it is barely noticable and definitely not distracting.
squidboi Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 unfortunately this has been this way for a while.. you are more or less forced to use high or ultra clouds in order to get a non blocky appearance..

I would be OK to use high clouds. High clouds looking good and medium clouds looking bad has a logic, the difference between the two would be too much though if it worked straight that way. My main problem is that I cannot use balanced preset because that destroys the clouds even if clouds setting is on high.
