Does anyone mind sharing more information about what the Air Marshal is supposed to be when released?

My group is in dire need of a radar system for BoX for when we do a Channel Front/Normandy campaign but before getting all my hopes up I'd like to know more about the planned features of the system.

Most importantly: is it going to model the curvature of the earth e.g are low flying aircraft going to be spotted later than high contacts?

Is it going to model the delay which plagued radar systems of the period.

Is the radar range going to be based on historical radar positions or is it going to affect all contacts regardless of where they at?

And most importantly - is it also going to be available to use in Kuban which saw significant GC use by each side?

We don't have much info about it, but you should expect a game mode, not an in-depth radar simulator.

"A Violent Wind"

I suppose wartime RAF rations plus daily changes in altitude would do that.... but you might be better off with "A Violent Storm"?

Looks like I might get to shoot down some defenseless C-47s during Operation Market Garden after all!

Maybe protect them in my Spit XIVe - who knows! Only in the the virtual world of make believe can we take both sides (Thanks 1c and 777) :good:

I find it immensely encouraging that the team thinks it may take more than one attempt to get the visibility right. Small changes and trial and error will be exactly what is needed unless the team is very lucky.

Great news about the Tempest free campaign. Thanks!

Posted

I posted about this dev update in our forum, along with the first screen shot of the C47, everyone wanted to know if it was going to be flyable.

Sadly I had to inform them that, no, it was not.

All sounding great, really looking forward to BON!

Free tempest campaign! Thanks!  C47 look so good, it will be hard to shoot it down but I think that I just have to do it. Just today when I was driving I saw dc3, not an everyday sight.

Thanks for the update.

Can you please define what precisely "G-6 Late" means?

Does it mean simply new canopy and tall tail? Or does it include all options for actual G-6 - MW50; /AS series etc?

Good question!

Alas... it isn't radar/ground control. It seems to be a system for a player in to coordinate other players in multiplayer... sort-of a commander view. I don't know if it will allow spawning AI flights or directing them (it would probably be neat if players led formations of AI level-bombers in multiplayer). I'm also not sure if it brings any benefits to single-player.

AirMarshal and spotting improvements. Best DD in a long time. ?

I hope AirMarshal will also yield some development time to improve the MP interface.

Very excited for visibility updates. This has been a long standing gripe and the achilles heel of this otherwise great sim. I would love to see a developer diary on just the proposed changes to visibility.

This could literally be @Jason_Williams the day they announced a pre-order for a flyable C-47 or B-25 collectors plane....

The coolest thing about the Dakota Dc-3/c47 is that there's still a bunch of them still in operation.  This is uber cool in my book!!!

Sadly

Never say never. We’ve been surprised by what we thought was not to be so many times by this team. A flyable C-47 would be an incredible addition to this sim from an important game play standpoint. Even as “just” a flyable, it would be immensely popular.

And after all we have a flyable Tri-motor Junker, and so a flyable C-47 is some additional work but worth it. Collector plane at 30 US$  would sell like hot cakes.

But I have a better proposal. A B17 flyable collector plane. I am ready to pay at least 50 US$ for it.

Maybe my English can confuse myself, but when I read about « map production », does it means what I think it means??? ?

Does it means, us, missions and campaigns designers, will be able to work and modify the maps???

“We’ve also had to build up technical capacity in the field of map production, which is necessary to implement everything planned for the Normandy landscape.”

To me, building up technical capacity would mean adding or freeing up development resources to work on the map, instead of other projects like flight models, AI, graphics rendering and content research.

About campaign "A Violent Wind" will there also be excellent radio-communication processing in the campaign as in the "Hell Hawks"? (

I have to say it has raised the overall level of the campaign.) Of course with British communication in mind?

Sat that similar noise isnt in basic of the game.

Also, as a result of recent discussions in the community, work is underway to improve general aircraft visibility, which we hope will appear to be both realistic and more comfortable for players. This may require more than one future update to fully conquer, but we’ll see.

Thank you devs for acknowledging and looking into this.

No. "Hell Hawks" was created over 1.5 years, and Tempest campaign was made in 14 weeks. We cannot afford to spend more time on this as there is a huge amount of work to be done for a future BON career. I also got an extremely negative experience when creating voiceovers for the tank campaigns for TC and I definitely won't try to repeat this in paid aviation campaigns.

Hi, thanks for answer,  then,  if is a paid campaign. I see after review if it makes sense to me. For the Hell Hawks, I certainly don't regret the money. Anyway, thanks for your work. Campaigns, which are part of the game, did not interest me.

I understand that its much work.

Rjel, if the Ju52 experience is anything to go by, the C47 will not sell in numbers large enough to justify it's conversion to flyable status.  In my group of friends, only myself, and BlitzPig Voidcracker have purchased the Ju52.  Is a 20 percent buy in enough to make the C47 viable?  I doubt it.  I hope I am wrong, I really do, but my inner skeptic says it won't happen.

I think the C-47 could be made viable by both, special semi-historical or fictional SP missions and specially tailored MP missions.

Fly-in super-secret supplies at night on D-day plus two.

Or why not go fictional and try to nail a prohibition-busting C-47 operation in your I-16/ Hurricane? A bit of a Porco Rosso or Talespin thing at play, if you will.

Sometimes, thinking out of the box can work wonders.

The Ju 52 is too slow to not get slaughtered and thus is too unattractive for non-lovers.

In the active part of my squad about 45 of 60 have the Ju-52. Now I am confused to what excactly you refer with "the Ju-52 expercience"? :scratch_one-s_head:
