Sim starts ignoring some, but not all, inputs from controlers and keyboard

Good Evening,

I'm having a problem in game where at seemingly random times throughout the flight, sometimes immediately sometimes up to 30min into a flight, about 50% of the inputs from my keyboard or joysticks will be ignored.  For example, my throttle and prop pitch inputs will be ignored, but my radiators and gun sight can still be adjusted, even though all those inputs come from the same physical controller (my thrustmaster throttle).  Even on my keyboard I can press + and - to try and increase or decrease my throttle position in game but it doesn't do anything.  However, pressing the keyboard buttons for radiators and gun sight adjustments still work just fine.  When I go into the key mappings section of the options, the game is recognizing the key presses and inputs from my keyboard and all of my controllers, but it just refuses to actually do anything in game.  For these reasons, I think it's a bug on the game side of things like the old bug where your guns wouldn't shoot in the 109 and not a problem with my controllers/keyboard because the game is obviously recognizing them.

It's rather annoying and makes the game unplayable for me at the moment as my throttle just freezes at random times during missions and there's no way to get it back.  Here's a small video detailing the bug in action:

It seems like I was having the same problem as this guy:

but the fixes listed in this thread didn't do anything for me because I'm not having a problem with Il2 recognizing my controllers, it can indeed see them, they just flat out don't do anything in game despite being properly mapped.

Thanks for the help.

Hi @Yeager, few things come to mind:

a) Your controllers may be suffering from Windows turning off the usb port to which they're connected (only valid if all inputs from such controller are failing after a certain period of time). If so, go to Device Manager and right click your USB ports and on Power Management tab uncheck the option "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.

b) Are you using some kind of macros or external programming to control your buttons/axis? In my personal case, I use Joystick Gremlin to control my button box and my Warthog, but I know that there are some situations (for instance, when I'm lowering flaps, which is done by a macro that keeps repeating the "flaps down" key as long as I keep the 3-way-switch in down position, some other keys aren't recognized). If so, check if some of your macros aren't letting some "shift/alt/ctrl" in a "pressed state" by mistake, or if you don't have another macro still playing which in turn will "mix" the keys.

I would bet on situation a).

Hope it helps.

Cheers.

I went to "repair" from Steam... than I had to re-assign inputs, one by one, although it was all there... in settings, I had to assign the commands - that were already displayed ?

One by one, after re-assigning - they start to work. (?)

Just check first in your Win joystick properties (control panel), test functions ...to exclude system damage.

Using the Thrustmaster Event Tester, are you able to confirm that the joystick is indeed triggering the keyboard shortcuts?

@jokerBR I already have the power save USB option disabled, but it was a good suggestion.  If windows was turning off a USB port, wouldn't the whole controller cease to function?  It's still recognized in game and event testers.  I do use Joystick Gremlin, but I disabled it to see if it was causing problems but the bug still came back.  Re-flying a new plane always fixes it until it comes back again at a random time which makes me think it's definitely a bug game side.  I can select a new plane without changing any keybindings or joystick settings and the bug will go away.

@esk_pedja I deleted my steam install and did a fresh install of standalone to no avail, I did bring my old key mapping files over, I'm not sure if that would matter, but I can try wiping it again and remap everything clean.

@[PAIN]PainfulByte Yes, it's recognized in the TARGET Event Tester as well as the Windows Device Manager.  Again, the controllers are recognized in game in the control screen so they're obviously sending inputs to the game it's just like the plane itself is bugged out and refuses to respond to certain commands regardless if they're pressed on my keyboard, throttle, stick, MFDs, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys, I'm going to do a completely fresh install and remap everything and see if it works.  Unfortunately, the bug happens and totally random times during a sortie so I'll have to fly around for quite a bit to see if it comes back

Hi Yeager, the only thing that comes to mind now (after your response) is to check what programs you have running in background. Maybe something is "hijacking" your controllers?

Seems like I fixed it.  I ended up deleting my "inputs" folder in the root game folder and let it auto-generate a new one.  I had to remap everything as a result, but I haven't had the bug come back for about 3 hours of flying so I think it's fixed.  Thanks for the input everyone.
