seladon11 Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Hi all, i understand the way to assign "loose" skins to my squadron but is it also possible to assign skins to all the other squadrons in a campaign? I fly IL-2 since the first days and can't realy understand why the devs don't implement squadron signs and numbers in the sim. Thanks in advance 1
Almenas Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 I couldn't agree more. There is so much emphasis on realism, only this point is neglected. There is a folder called "skins" in PWCG, but I couldn't manage to assign skins to a squadron.
the_dudeWG Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 This is something that @PatrickAWlson needs to do. I'm helping Pat do this with PWCG for Flying Circus, but I'm afraid I can't help with WWII skins. I remember seeing Jason recruiting a skin czar for PWCG for BoS sometime ago. I would expect that whoever accepted the role should be the one to take the lead. S!

Thanks in advance Two things, The devs, I guess thats 1c, has nothing to do with the PWCG, on the scripted campaigns this is been programmed by some campaign makers, while for the 1c official career mode, I do not know because I do not play any career mode. For the RoF PWCG this is all coded into a file. I know @Ansirial was the first one that did made generic jasta/squadron/escadrille for RoF and a piece of software to swap them into PWCG. For BOX 10.x.x version,( btw without checking this), I guess that must be “find the right skin and type in” methodology, because I do see some skin coding numbers at the BoX-PWCG squadron memu. But its interesting.

At that time I decided work on this because I think WWI liveries are very important for the simulation environment. I still have old PSD source files, as I know texture formats for FC are quite similar. I adapted a couple of skins for my careers with PWCG for FC. I also looked inside PWCG and there is something left to setup squadrons, but I was unable setup this feature quickly. I did not start same work for WWII because differences between squadrons, in my opinion, are minimal; but of course it would be a great thing to have squadrons skins. Almenas Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Maybe it would be enough if there was the possibility to use the skin files in PWCG. You could insert your own skins there, either directly into the file or through a separate interface in the skin management. In a first step you don't need the enormous number of skins like in ROF (by the way, you can still use the old skins from ROF, brighten them in an image editor and save them as DDS). As I understood it, there is basically the possibility to assign skins to a squadron using the files in the skin folder. I tried that, sometimes then they appear under the Skin Set Squadron, and next time only under the Set Loose. But of course it depends only on Pat if he finds the time and interest to deal with skins.
