I was hoping to have bought this game as soon as it came out and it looks very good but having already purchased 'Normandy' the cost of 'Tobruk' is a little too much for me so sadly I'm going to have to let it go. ?

We have been testing it for a while and rather than delay the release, we will have it in a patch post release. It is close but we only have a handful of people in TFS, and of that handful, only a couple who can work on the system but they have been needed for helping import/animate all the new aircraft/objects/ships/ so on.

It looks great right now, so further tweaking and optimization will be worth the wait.

That is a downer as seeing how the new wx system runs in Blitz AND how extensive the UI improvements for Blitz 5.0 will be seems important for those who are in doubt as to the future of the CloD game engine. Your response also raises question as to how technical support for the game will be handled given staffing issues you describe.

People whining about VR, missions/campaign or whatever [edited]. Negativity off the scale and putting down the product before it is even released is up to astounding levels. Why? CloD has it's place and I am grateful it is getting v5.0 soon. A refreshing change with a early / midwar plane set and a seldom visited theatre of operations.

To be honest the prospect of spending 140 dollars to be able to host Storm of War and play myself kinda burst the bubble.

THIS IS A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE NEW TOBRUK EXPANSION,

Not a Clod vs GBs discussion.

Just be glad that someone has even decided to even to do North Africa in the first place as in IL-2 1946, we never got North Africa, (really) not even the MTO. All we had was this Online map that somewhat resembled the Benghazi to Derna area, but in reality it didn't. Then in Patch 4.09 we got this MTO map that gave us North Africa, Crete and Southern Greece, but it was scaled down. We didn't get Tunisia, Malta, or even Italy (that map in 4.08 is completely fictional). With the exception of Mods and the Tobruk map that was released in 4.13, we haven't really gotten a proper MTO. AFAIK, there are only QMB and a few missions in the Tobruk and MTO map, no Campaigns or Career, save (likely) for Mods.

Right here we have a team that actually is going to North Africa/MTO, to give us a proper depiction of it with aircraft, some of which you can't fly anywhere else, except maybe in Mods ( but probably those cockpits aren't accurately modelled as they are in CloD), as well as Campaigns.

This is probably the only opportunity in the near future to fly over a properly depicted MTO, if it ends with Desert Wings-Tobruk, I don't think that will make the devs of IL-2 GBs immediately go there after BON.

P.S. It's the quality of the product that matters, NOT who makes it.

Cheers.

So you are upset now? Wait till, perhaps, unhappy purchasers/reviewers show up.

Shame since you and the team had the talent and imagination to get all that good stuff out of the backend that made SOW so immersive.

Yeah well sadly the others have moved onto DCS, the rest of No.54 won't return to CLOD having lost patience with waiting and bored.

I don't know, maybe there'll be a dedicated server exe which means you don't need to buy the game but I won't hold my breath.

So this is not a thread about comparing products. Take that elsewhere. Desert Wings is worth the price offered and TFS deserves to make some money off of all their effort and good work. Day One price is just $59.49 with the 15% Off discount. I would hope some of you in here, after all the trials and tribulations this hobby has gone through, have some perspective.

If you can afford Desert Wings I highly suggest you pick it up. Having options to fly sims is a good thing and DW is fun to fly.

Adopting VR to the CLOD engine takes some effort, being overly negative and discouraging others from buying is a sure fire way for it to never happen.

TFS is well aware of the desire of VR.

So if a game lacks the core element that someone is looking for, that person should just clap merrily and buy it,... then not use it. Don't be daft, things are bought if they suits a persons need. I'm just expressing an opinon is all, in the thread that is supposed to discuss the announcement, and praise the emperors new clothes I will not if think they are lacking.

Do you understand that no open career means no serious time investment for me? And that I specifcially asked on a different forum about the camaing and was led to believe there would be one. Now, I had that with Clod, and then with BoS, here it is again.

Developers shouldn't be bombarded solely with citicism, but they must surely want to know why some will not buy in and therfore, maybe, perhaps, change that aspect.

Maybe TF are not able to do that by the nature of what they started with to patch up and the volunteer nature of themselves and that would be a shame, beause CloD is the best WWII sim in some ways.

Really shoudln't call this a 'discussion' thread if you just want cheering and whooping.

I'll leave you to it, apologies. I'll try and pick it up when I'm drunk after a payday sometime.

It'll be cheap in the winter sales I'd imagine.

I have 40 degrees outside clear sky, summer already here. Steam started his Summer sale I think it is valid to ask about to be a little more specific about "this summer". Not many from us sit 24h on the PC waiting when the "add to cart"  symbol appear. The weather is too nice to spend it on PC. I want to buy Toburk now and when 1C is so kind too give 15% I want it too.

Respect and gratitude for TFS!

After years of your effort and years of waiting, you are finally here!

I started playing IL-2 from the 1946 era and I'm pretty much impressed of what you have achieved in the past 8 years. I'm in no hush and I fully understand it takes time and effort to bring Clod from reborn of DW to a level of perfection.

Please, please continue your excellent work! On the other side of the Earth, Chinese players are looking forward to the final release!♥️

@John_Yossarian I don't think you realize that a Pilot Career and VR didn't come into IL-2 GBs until halfway through the THIRD installment, so how about chilling out on this alright, and just praise Team Fusion on what they've done these past years and what content they've add to DW- Tobruk.

I'm in the same boat as you are, and I completely understand your point, but just here me out on this one.

For $59-70 US, you actually get more content in Desert Wings- Tobruk than you do in a Battle of... as unlike in IL-2 GBs where you get a map, 10 planes (maybe actually a bit more when you include AI planes and variants), some ships, and Ground vehicles for $70-90 US Premium regular, in Desert Wings, you get 40+ planes, 25 ground vehicles, 17 ships including Submarines and Battleships, and a map. So in reality, you get more content here than in an IL-2 GBs Battle.

But if $ is the big problem, then just wait for a sale, like in the Autumn and Winter.

Cheers. Novice.

Thank you Team Fusion!

I am delighted that something is being made of Cliffs, which had so much going for it among the horrors. It doesn't look ten years old to me. In fact I think it looks and plays amazingly.

I'm in.

Yeah, I spend all my money on my family, with maybe £25 a month disposable on luxuries for myself, so take offence at that attitude too. (and hence my determination to buy things that I will get good hours from).

Indeed sallee, Clod graphics are still top notch, even after so many years!

I feel just like you I guess delighted that this AAA title is still supported. Most good games, even sims, are abandoned from day 1 (thinking about a. o. Apache air assault) and we should be grateful this is not the case here!

I'd like to have some clarity on what the situation will be for those who choose not to buy TF5. I recall some time ago that it was said that the improvements and changes to the core engine (by which I mean code bug fixes, AI rewrite, environmental & effect changes) would be released to CLOD Blitz users as a patch, rather than a paid for DLC.

Is this still the case, or is it now predicated on buying Tobruk?

As we have said several times on this forum, the improvements to the core engine will be included in a patch for BLITZ.

Obviously none of the Aircraft/Vehicle/Ship content will be available... and none of the Single Player Campaigns.

For those who are focused on a Dynamic Mission experience, we do expect to incorporate a program in the game at some point after the release... in the same way DCG's were created for the original game.

60 Dolla,rs is a bit high price for addon, but I´m gonna buy it at day1! Been playing ClOD bliz and for me it's the best BOB game ever. Gameplay reminds old il2 games. I don't fly online often. Been waiting for this.

Team Fusion sees DESERT WINGS - TOBRUK not as a finalized product on release, with no further development, but rather as a product which will see an ongoing development process.

So we will be adding a new Weather system later this year after release.

In addition, changes to allow the players to control ships and vehicles as part of an integrated air/land/sea environment should arrive shortly after.

And we hope to have VR implemented for those who enjoy the 3D experience early in the New Year.

I'd also like to know how this integrates with Blitz please.  Does it integrate like the GB series or do I have to launch Blitz if I want to fly on the Channel map and Tobruk for the N. Africa map?   I'm assuming relevant theatre specific aircraft (old and new) will be available across both platforms - is this correct?

Hello Yardstick

The new dlc is fully integrated with CLIFFS OF DOVER - BLITZ.... all the aircraft/vehicles/ships/Maps from the original game can be used in the new DESERT WINGS - TOBRUK dlc.

The negative opinion about the game seems to me due to the poor start of the Battle of Britain. That was a big disappointment then.
TFs are at risk, but I think they figured it out. So I'm in business.
P.S. sorry for bad english google translator

Hello,

Good news to know the near release.

Could you explain the list of available aircraft: how many are add to Blitz (60 ?) and how many to Tobruk (40 ?) ?

Are you considering sold a pack Blitz+Tobruk ? Actually with Steam promotion Blitz are at 6 EUR but without sold it is 23 EUR => BLITZ+TOBRUK near 83 EUR.

I know, you offer many plane but an old game engine without VR...83 EUR are bit hard for newcomers

Posted

Jason thanks for the pre-release information on 'Desert Wings - Tobruk' and a big thanks to all the team at 'Team Fusion Simulations' for a great effort to get the 'Cliffs of Dover' simulator engine back in the air again with all the exciting new aircraft and map in Desert Wings.

I've  been having a close look at 'Cliffs of Dover - Blitz' lately and revisiting all the aircraft in the game before 'Desert Wings is released. For all the doubters we are so lucky to have access to the best WWII air simulators in the market today with very dedicated people producing them.

As soon as 'Desert Wings - Tobruk' is released for sale, I will be purchasing it and very soon behind the release I will produce some single missions and campaigns. In the meantime I am enjoying making my missions in 'Great Battles'.

It will be part of IL-2 Cliffs Of Dover. It is a totally different sim from BOS BOK BOB et.

Interesting question ... :russian_ru:

I don't quite understand it ... the same company or? ...

but I wanted the beautiful static models in IL.2 Bos ..

Interest is also the hurricanes ( Plane ) that have been integrated there for years ..

Why do you have to build a new 3D model in IL.2Bos if there is one ..

the only thing is that you may have to rewrite the scripts ..

and that is done by a programmer. :umnik2:
