Does anyone have experience with this?

When I start computer and start Mixed Reality Portal in Windows the image in my Reverb is distorted. It is kind of zoomed in and the image gets bend or curved near edges. If I launch IL-2 it is the same thing in the game. From game FPS counter I can see that it runs in 60Hz mode although I have selected 90Hz mode in Windows settings.

Now if I restart computer everything is ok. The image in Mixed Reality Portal and in-game is correct and FPS is limited to 90 as it should be.

I think this began as I was eager to test the 60Hz mode of Reverb and installed a Windows update that fixed the distorted image in 60Hz mode. I tried uninstalling Mixed Reality Portal and removed Reverb and installed them again but it didn't help.

Windows 10 version 2004 fixes that issues, so I can run at 60Hz without distortion.

If you're still running version 1903, then running 60Hz will result in skewed image in the Reverb.

You misunderstood. I ran the patch that fixed the 60Hz image and Windows is showing version 2004.

60Hz mode worked fine, but I want run the game in 90Hz mode. I have 90Hz mode selected in Windows settings.

Somehow the Reverb is in 60Hz mode (regardless of my settings for WMR) and the image is distorted. As soon as I reboot the computer all is fixed.

So everytime I start computer I need to reboot it first to get VR working properly.

Hmm... I reverted previous Windows 10 version but the problem remained. I tried to disconnect and reconnect USB but Mixed Reality Portal gave me an error that it wasn't a USB3 port (it is). Tried another USB3 port and Mixed Reality Portal launched ok and the image was good (without rebooting). Something wrong with my motherboards USB-ports apparently.

Oh boy, you gotta love computers. My last computer ended it's days in a firing range?

@Remontti Don't trash your computer just yet.

During Windows updates power management settings are often reset to default allowing usb hubs to go to sleep when not in use.

Right click on Windows start and select Device Manager. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers and expand it to show all your usb ports and devices. Now left click on one of the lines to highlight it and right click to select Properties. If the device has a Power Management tab make sure the box allowing it to sleep to save power is not checked.

You'll need to do each one but that should solve the problem you mention.

Cheers

Indeed they were in power saving mode. I'll try this. Thanks.

I updated Windows back to version 2004 and disabled all the USB power saving options.

I still get the issue of 60Hz mode with distorted image. I noted also when the image is distorted changing refresh rate from Windows settings doesn't do a thing. When the Reverb is working properly I see Mixed Reality Portal flicker briefly (restarting prehaps?) when I change refresh rate.

After setting the power saving options off I haven't seen the error of not being connected to USB3. Now I just need to unplug and plug Reverbs USB cable to fix the issue. Not sure if crawling under the desk pulling cables is anyway faster than rebooting though.

You can't roll back, part of it is supposedly in the Firmware.

You must use the latest version, and if you want to switch, restart Computer.

I sometimes get the distorted image too. It usually goes away after a restart. I'm not too concerned, as these bugs usually get fixed along the road.

I use the Reverb aswell, but never had such problems.

Last week I had tracking Problems with my Reverb, deeinstalling and reeinstalling the HMD with WMR Portal did fix that. You said you did reeinstall WMR Portal. Better try that again, do a new Installation and Setup the Reverb again from the start. Try to use the "Motion Reprojection Mode" in AUTO. That gives me very good performance.

I'm going to try a powered usb hub next.  Someone said something about similiar problems that were fixed with a powered usb 3.0 hub.

Today I tried IL2 after an update (il2 update) and I get this fisheye sensation, I'm out the place in the cockpit and the image moves with my head movement. IPD change didn't do a thing.
I tried DCS after and it's normal. IPD

Try this for a solution

delete all camera perspectives and startup.cfg

verify integrity of game cache

restart the game

Please report back afterwards. What's your headset, do you have the latest nvidia drivers & Windows 10 May 2020 Update (version 2004)?

Having had problems with Windows Pro on 2 PCs (one a laptop) due windows update i installed Win10 LTSC now.

Hurray, all three run stable for 2 to 3 months now. No Edge, Cortana or other bloatware.

I use windows update switch to turn off updates and removed MSick telemetry with a tool.

Well, the file delete did the trick for me!! Thanks! :))
I'm using HP Reverb. Everything is smooth but I can't past the 45 fps. Not sure about spotting yet as I've only did a bombing sortie since the upgrade.
Specs: Intel I5 10600K, DDR4 32 gb 3600 CL17. Z490 Gaming X, RTX 2070 Super. SSDs.
Windows WMR has new settings that my previous W10 didn't have. (Adjust Level of Detail, Change App Window Resolution, Experience Options, Resolution)
2004 version & latest NVIDIA Drivers!

Yes, except for the defaults folder. But make sure to create a backup first.

Well team - still no luck here. reinstalled from scratch (except whatever steam leaves behind, will do that next) - and still have the goddamn distortion, fisheye lens effect going on. this is with insider build fast ring, odyssey+, latest drivers, steam vr beta - wmr for steam beta.

When I was searching for a solution I read somewhere that you get that if you force everything "VR related" (Win Mixed R, SteamVR and other software) to come back on when you click on IL2 instead of starting them up before, and then running the game after. I think it didn't happen before but with this latest patches it became an issue.

Mixed reality portal? Jesus, that sounds awful, I hope it clears up.

as far as start order, i've done it several ways - WMR portal, then wmr for steam then il2. have also tried starting straight from IL2. this is the case for both 60hz and 90hz mode.

No Betas for WMR users man, stay away from that.

Make sure you got Win10 v2004, latest Nvidia drivers, clear the entirety of your mixed reality portal installation including all remains (google for a clean uninstall), then reinstall that from scratch.

Afterwards clean out SteamVR and all files related to it, including the several steamvr.vrsettings files (for both the default and the "SteamVR for WMR" App which has its own). Google where you find them, and run the vrregpath in command line as well.

Then, for IL-2, delete all camera perspectives and startup.cfg as well, then verify integrity of game cache.

There's some stuck dependency somewhere that's giving you that issue. I am 100% it's a software issue.

well noted @SCG_Fenris_Wolf i appreciate your insight here.

I'll do all of this then report back.

one side note - this issue only occurs in IL2 all other sims, while having performance issues, have no issues around this distortion effect.
