Judder/Stuttering like dropped frames with MSAA on (even with good reported framerate)

Spent a couple of hours testing different scenarios using the fpsVR you recommended (cool app btw).   I think you're right about my 1080ti not being up to the job since the update. Unsure how to extract the live fpsVR graphs inside the HMD, but you can see the GPU is working much harder in 90Hz compared to 60Hz with more red line frame drops.

I've copied the graphs, the best performance seems to be using RTSS with frame rate capped at 60fps with my Reverb at 60Hz.  The graphics and spotting is much clearer at 90Hz, but the 60fps limit causes choppier refresh.  However, RTSS removes the huge judder spikes I was suffering before as the frame times have been smoothed out.

My results graphs are Here

Yeah your CPU seems to be breezing through all this which is is a good thing.

I'm somewhat surprised that RTSS is helping that much but I think your conclusion is correct - that your GPU is struggling here, at least in the 90FPS case - your GPU cannot keep up with that 11ms frametime.

But at 60hz you're GPU is well capable of handling that load. The issue now is those little intermittent jitters that you see toward the tail of the curve above the 16ms frame time limit.

Those are the "spurious" frametimes which I was talking to @SCG_Wulfe about. I'm not sure how one gets rid of those, at least in your case maybe RTSS does seem to be helping there?

@Floppy_Sock Yeah it looks like I'll have to invest in a new gfx card at some point.  Unsure how fast it needs to be to run at 90Hz again though.

Wait a second ,is it possible to chance VR fps with a Riva tuner ?

you have two options:

a) simple: just make visible main fpsVR graph window elsewhere on monitor and make printscreen; the system one, not IL-2

b) better one: in fpsVR settings go to advanced and enable frametime logging, the best by hotkey; then go to IL-2 and make record by hotkey; start/stop is indicated by bell

fpsVR creates csv file with all relevant data for every frame; this can be plotted with your favorite tool; even stupid excel can be used,

fpsVR built in histograms are nice tool, but have one significant disadvantage - they take into account whole session, including game loading

I have a live support ticket with 1CGS to see if they can help with performance.  After providing various diagnostic logs, they sent a number of possible fixes.  I understand most of them with the exception of one.  Is there anyone techy enough to help clarify?

1. to introduce the game to the exceptions list security features or to disable them.
2. disable the Programs that use your video adapter in parallel with the game and utilities from the Manufacturer. For example, we have feedback from pilots who have had similar problems. They claim that some of these utilities have had a negative impact on the stability of the Game.
3. reinstall the drivers for your video card , It may make sense to try earlier versions of the Driver.
4. if you have made changes in the settings of your video card drivers - please return them to the default state.
5.  exit/disable all unnecessary processes, especially turn off Nahimic software.

Take a look at this article:

I'm lost on point 2 - any ideas?

I think they mean those programs that are used to overclock GPUs, monitor temps show the voltage and clock and stuff. All manufacturers have some kind of program to do these.

Ahh.. ok.  I've uninstalled MSI Dragon centre and afterburner just in case.

Thanks!

This is my main problem since the update.  This issue isn't really being discussed in the wider IL2 community, so I fear it will be swept under the carpet.

Had no problem running my reverb at 90hz with highish settings before. I've now turned the graphics down and run it at 60Hz.  Not a happy bunny at all!

Same! I am having the same issue! Its to the point where I just get so frustrated, I stop messing with it and walk away...  I had no issues with it previously.

Just to update this topic.

I've finally settled on VR graphic settings that I think are the best combo of performance and spotting and visuals for people on slightly older hardware.

I have a founders edition gtx 1080 graphics card and I had to overclock it to be able to run the clouds on high instead of medium but otherwise the settings below should work for a non-overclocked 1080.  I get a mostly solid 90 fps even on Combat Box with only the occasional micro-stutter that I hardly notice.

I'm using an Odyssey plus at 124% SS in Steam VR.

Not sure if it's exactly the same issue, but the info in this thread really helped me reduce any stuttering to virtually zero.

Sorry but did you using Nvidia inspector for VR, because in my experience this will not bring any benefit using in VR.

No, that's why I said "Not sure if it's exactly the same issue". Sorry it's not of any help to you.

Hello, all. I'm using the Oculus Rift S and was experiencing the same thing, I think; parts of the canopy and cockpit would distort if I moved my head to look around, everything becomes really choppy when near/facing the ground and in dogfights. Nvidia released new updates finally (I'm using a 1660Ti) and the issue vastly improved, although it is still present. Has anyone else updated and noticed a difference?

Before the update, I had turned everything down as low as I could, but nothing seemed to work. I'm still hesitant to bring any options closer to what I had (when everything ran perfectly fine), because the issue is still there. There's still distortion of canopy parts (I'm not really sure how to describe it. It's like the struts turn into a hologram image breaking up) and in dogfights there's still some difficulty. It's almost like the refresh rate of the headset is falling, but the game itself continues on like it doesn't notice. I don't think it is the headset, however, as every other game I play doesn't have any issue.
