I am re painting this model totally as provided parts are way to dark grey and should be white. At this time as you can see it is factory fresh which will not do and will be weathered when assembled. This model hopefully if I build correctly will have folding "S" foils lit engines as show in test picture, illuminated cockpit and firing cannons. Oh and a lit and rotating R2 unit all on a nifty remote control. Also I am adding a Paragraphics ,console and cockpit framing as The ones supplied make it look too much like a toy. Will be adding my own Pilot figure as not supplied in kit. Hey @voncrapenhauser you should checkout Falcon3d website. It’s a Canadian guy who makes replacement parts for this model. Quality stuff. I used his work in my T47 Snowspeeder. 1

BornToBattle Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Decided to take a break from plastic and went back to wood working a bit. Just finished Midwest kit in 1/12 of the Grand Banks Dory which has been in use in North America since the early 1700’s. This represents the smallest of the five classes, this one being 12’ in length. I’ve got netting for fishing and some buoys and lobster traps I made from scratch to possibly add (they were mainly used for fishing) but what the heck. The netting is on order so I just decided to go ahead and post a couple pics since the primary objective was getting the boat done. Hope everyone is doing well. 6

And excellent work. I’m currently making an 1800s whaling boat. Lots of different techniques in this one so it’s making me use my head a lot. My brain hurts. Bloody quote mechanics always make a mess for me. As my actual response is buried in the quote… excellent work and a lovely model. I will add this one to my list of next kits. 1

Awesome subject ,awesome model I really should try another wooden ship build, I haven't done one since must be early seventies.....Think that was an old Keil Kraft model boat too. X wing update fuz frame, nose section and 3rd wing panel....as yo can see the original paint is way too dark, will be repainted when assembled 3rd wing complete. 6 1

Geez…this looks like quite the project. When it comes to subject matter such as this what is the scale?

voncrapenhauser Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 X Wing update. DISASTER ! Assembly....Disassembly .......Assembly....Disassembly......Assembly....Disassembly......Assembly....Disassembly......Arrrrrrrgh ! Throw out of window?.....Almost. Tried everything to get The electronics to work by remote control supplied .......No joy. Apparently this was a really weak point with this kit with non functioning main boards..........so guess what.. I have one of "Those boards"....of course I do. Next hurdle please.......Problem is De Agostini no longer produce this kit or spare parts so I'm up s..t creek here. "Ah yes lower my expectations" I said to my self.......right will be able with a total rewiring to have lit engines,Tick, lit laser cannons, Tick and lit cockpit,Tick on separate switches. Also because of different amounts of LED's I have to have 3 separate power supplies ....only because of my limited wiring knowledge. Anyhoo, winge over, "on-ward's and upwards" we hope, here is The build so far. Had to move from work table as model is too big now......remind me who's great idea this was.........yep it was me lol. 4 2
SARFlytitus Posted April 6 Posted April 6 (edited) Finally after 15 years since I started it, this weekend I finished the Astrolabe, a 1812 French Corvette. I really don't think I'll find the courage to build another sailing ship. After this modeling experience I will dive again among my beloved 1/48 warbirds. To all the ship modelers goes my deep respect and admiration. For me it was very tiring even if in the end the result was satisfying Edited April 7 by SARFlytitus 22 1

I wouldn't even begin something like this. 1 1 1

DD_Crash Posted April 13 Posted April 13 Tamiya Panther Ausf. A 1/35 kit. My first tank for a long while and it took some time to work out how to do the zimmerit. I ended up using Holts knifing putty spread over dry wall jointing tape and I think it worked out not too bad. 13 1
DD_Crash Posted April 15 Posted April 15 (edited) thanks for the encouragement guys. I am still not too happy about the shrubbery as I couldnt get the material to stick to a couple of small twigs. I tried PVA, hot glue gun, and CA but nothing worked well. Edited April 15 by DD_Crash 6 1
BornToBattle Posted April 22 Posted April 22 (edited) Build number 71 since starting this hobby up again after 40+ years - South African National Defense Force G6 Rhino which features a 155mm gun and has a range of just over 41.6 miles. It’s 1/35 by Takom and done in acrylics. South African red-brown dust was done with pigments. On the bench right now is Hasegawa’s 1/48 scale J7W1 Shinden… Edited April 22 by BornToBattle 14
Hoots Posted April 22 Posted April 22 This is my next one, it’s a bit different as it’s a bigger scale. It’ll be a whaleboat eventually. Bending all the ribs got tedious. The first couple of ribs here I had to take off as I couldn’t take how badly I’d done them. Completely pointless as it’s got a double hull and you won’t be able to see the bottom part of the ribs. 5

Working with wood as you know I definately feel for you! Totally different than styrene as you’re literally for the most part making the parts yourself rather than having everything nicely pre-molded for you. Can’t wait until it’s done. Which kit is this? Curious.

These kits have a nice blend of needing work but allowing progress. https://www.amatimodel.com/en/models-amati-classic/product-whaleboat-b1440.html?srsltid=AfmBOorPDFEuU1fcQ29arT-1uMQgrbwu5wxhIcv7gJFnriGJaia-sbG0 2

BornToBattle Posted April 25 Posted April 25 You HAVE to post pics of this beauty when you finish her! Nice choice of kit BTW too. 1 2
BornToBattle Posted May 20 Posted May 20 USMC amphibious assault vehicle as used in Vietnam. The LVTH-6A1 entered service in the 1950’s of which 210 were built and proved satisfactory in the swampy areas of Vietnam. Acrylics and pigments used along with some oils. This is the one time VMS’s Vietnam Red Earth pigment came in handy. I kept the weathering rather light. 10
BornToBattle Posted May 29 Posted May 29 WW2 Shinden compliments of Japan. Two prototypes made and production ordered but seeing how the one prototype was flown only a very short time before the atomic bomb was dropped it was too little too late (prototype flew 45 minutes). I decided to have the Shinden as it would have appeared in the field via production run. This is the old Hasegawa kit in 1/48 scale with raised panel lines. No decals were used and I weighted the tires. Antenna was decided upon via Japanese achematics. The angled landing gear makes this model very tedious to handle. I always thought design-wise it looked before its time. 14
BornToBattle Posted May 29 Posted May 29 lol…yeah…the prototype was quite good there were a few niggles to work out. Was designed to hunt down B-29 formations. The US later came out post war with the XP-55 Ascender of the same configuration of pusher prop and Cunard front wings. 1 1

Hoots Posted June 4 Posted June 4 This is as finished as it's going to be. All that's missing is the mast, spar and sail which I was going to show furled and stowed on deck but once they're all rolled up and lashed theyre quite big and it overloaded the model I think. Also I couldn't be arsed. It's been an interesting build, never built a clinker hull before and the already sparse instructions are then translated from Italian into English. Anyway, we got there after considerable thought breaks. Boston Whaleboat from 1836, I haven't built it as a whaleboat as having all the various whale killing tools wasn't my cup of tea. Pretty boat though. 11 1
BornToBattle Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Yes, beautiful and wow! A HUGE congrats too on seeing it through until the end as well! I know how easy it is to throw in the towel especially in wooden kits and think “I’ll get back to this later” syndrome. I’ve got three partially done like that. Really turned out nice. Very nice!!! I can appreciate all the effort that went into this. Like the paint choices too in colors! 1

Cut each board individually, stained and assembled. Ok the doors and windows are castings. Pretty impressive that each board is cut individually! Adds a lot of realism. How big is your layout BTW?
Ghost666 Posted June 17 Posted June 17 @BornToBattle Thank you. The Layout is in a spare bedroom, 11 x 12 foot. There is about 160 foot of main line on 2 levels. 🚂 3
