XQ_Lothar29 Posted December 3, 2022 Posted December 3, 2022 (edited) hello friends and colleagues of this magnificent world of modeling, after two weeks, I can say that I have finished another beautiful messerschmitt, in this case a Gustav 4m with the Rustsatz 6, which as you know consists of two gondolas under the wings with MG 151 20mm. Specifically, this beautiful BF109 G4/R6 was flown by Hptm. Waldemar Wübke Commander of 7./JG54 France 1943, Luckily there is some very good information about this pilot. something that is appreciated when we look for information about our models Without further ado, I leave you with the images of my work. I cannot post the photos here, since in this case I have photographed them with good resolution, so I leave you my link to my Scalemates page where you can enjoy not only the finished plane, but also the step by step. Link to my SCALEMATES projects https://www.scalemates.com/profiles/mate.php?id=104105&p=albums PS:If you have a profile on scalemates, I would like to have you on my friends list and be able to follow your work there On 11/29/2022 at 12:38 PM, DBS said: Only just found this thread! DBS Posted December 5, 2022 Posted December 5, 2022 (edited) My latest build. Another of Sweet Aviation’s 109 F, this time done in Marseilles September ‘42 scheme. brushed with ak 3rd gen acrylics and weathered with Abteilung oils and Matt effect thinner, which I highly recommend! Wardog5711 Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 Nice models. But I put a temporary replacement pic up until you can replace it with your own if you choose to. And this is not directed to anyone specific, but to all who want to post pics of their models. Please cover/ blur any swastikas before posting. I understand they are historical, and they are on my personal models. But that symbol is illegal in a number of countries and can be a trigger for the folks that have zero appreciation for historical models. This forum is publicly searchable and I do not need any hassles over model pictures. ? 1

Wardog5711 Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 These are some of my 1/72 and 1/100 cold war aircraft. With the exception of the V-22 Osprey, all of these were active while I was in the service. The color schemes are from the mid 80's to early 90's and before the boring compass ghost gray schemes became the norm for Navy and Marine tactical aircraft. The 1/100 scale stuff was built to go along with my Team Yankee tabletop tank forces. The helicopters and VTOL aircraft have in-game stats but the fighter aircraft are just table dressing. 11 4

No_85_Gramps Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 Second one completed, just need to mount the nameplate and clean off the case. The first one made it safely to Texas via a 1,300 mile road trip. I was surprised, given the road conditions, that something didn't break. Now for a break till after the holidays. hetstaine Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 (edited) For something a bit different from my usual WWII stuff, Chuck Yeagers Bell X-1. Revells old 1988 1/32 kit still holds up decently. Basic kit at only 51 pieces but finishes up nicely with newer decals included in box. Zero weathering, i wanted that nice fresh look for once. Just a dash of preshading and many layers of Tamiya orange and red at about a 10:1 mix. Edited January 16, 2023 by hetstaine spacing 16

I lost my mother to cancer 10 years ago this coming August. Some days it feels like it was just yesterday, and then others I wonder has it really been that long. And then, of course, there's the fact that she never saw me get married and then have my son. Some days it just feels like living in a fog. Sorry to go a bit off-topic, but I just wanted to share that you're definitely not alone. It's no easy thing to go through. 1 2

Very sorry to hear that. My deepest condolences. All we truly can give in life is time is our time, a limited commodity indeed. I feel it is also our time spent that makes these models a piece of art, and not a technique or tool that would do the trick. My kids are currently working on the Airfix Typhoon and Tempest 1/72 kits. It quiet remarkable how different brand new moulds and the assembling are from we grew up with. They would would come and ask how to do this or that and I would mostly tell them to be patient and take their time trying (again). It‘s usually not what they want to hear. But there‘s just not that many ways for putting two pieces of plastic together or use a paint brush. Quality time, despite occasional frustrations. My MSFS, after a CTD, decided to not load past the „Checking for updates“ screen despite a new install. I took this as a sign to spend more time on scale modelling as well. 1 1
Hoots Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Thanks guys, I truly appreciate all your kindness.
BornToBattle Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 (edited) So sorry to hear Hoots and my condolences also. Any way in which we can help which includes myself I think I speak for all of us just fire off a PM. Seriously. Cancer paid us a visit back in 2014. I’ve always been aware of it but it truly doesn’t hit home until it becomes personal. I’ve learned to despise it and yet it’s my own body crying for help..sigh. That AA mount turned out “A number one Joe!”…really nice! Is that 1/35 scale? I’ve been working on another “paper panzer” - the rear set version of the German E-100. Isn’t going as I had envisioned it but then again as we all too well know, what does? Edited January 21, 2023 by BornToBattle 1 1
Hoots Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 Thanks, and glad you're doing ok with your battle. Yes it is 1/35, it's a tamiya kit and is going together nicely, only sworn at it a couple of times so far... I built a Lancaster during the lockdown a couple of years ago which I swore at A LOT but other than that this is the first kit I've done in about 35 years. 2

Little did I know way back when how much my gamer tag would mean to me lol. If I may, what colors for the gun you’re making? German grey perhaps darkened? I’m using primarily Tamiya acrylics. Looks like some dry brushing techniques or burnishing as well? I’m approaching my E-100’s top machine gun and am going back and forth on how to approach it. Since it is already assembled was thinking of doing a light airbrushing over top with a color that matches yours or close to it then some dry brushing with perhaps some VMS black steel pigment. I’m probably overthinking this a bit. You and I are in the same boat. I gave up plastic model kits about 40+ years ago and switched to wood (as in boats and ships that I posted in the forum here) but a year ago just began to pick up once again where I left off around my high school days. I guess I get kinda burnt out every few decades doing the same type of stuff. Talk about steep learning curve - and some cussin’! The last time I completed a model kit it was Testors enamel set and rattle cans for paint bombing! Now it’s dual action Iwatas and chipping techniques. Geesh. Well, back to the bench downstairs. Cheers! Jeff Here’s what I’m dealing with… 3

Currently I’m only using brushes and Tamiya paints, the mount is German grey and yep, dry brushed with gun metal and some chrome silver. The guns themselves are gun metal, I’ve then dry brushed them with some chrome silver and then with some khaki but only very lightly. 1 1

That’s exactly what I was planning on for this so reinforces my decision! Good stuff. Thanks for the compliment on pic but really right now that pic was just taken at the gloss clear stage and frankly I’m not happy with the way things turned out - pretty much par for me. I’m gonna post on here when done that this E-100 (kinda nice having a “blank slate” for these types of things in so far as projected reality goes) represents a spring ‘46 what if scenario. I made several major mis-steps in this build when it came to paint layers. Argh! Good thing is I know exactly what screwups I did so to get the results I was looking for I’ll just go for in another build. The paint layers I did along with some chipping really toned down the end results which I’m frowning over. Sooo, when life hands you lemons make lemonade. Artistically it looks more like a winter whitewash that has vastly deteriorated over time during the winter months so hence I decided on a springtime look for this thing. I’ve got all the weathering to do yet (think spring mud and dirt), decal set, additional chipping, blah, blah, blah. Same thing happened on my Maus build. An unexpected turn of events led me to turn the paint job on it in an entirely different direction. Like they say, live and learn or in our case - build and learn - and thanks again for your model intel! No_85_Gramps Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Finally got started on the M1025, plan was to get the fuel tank painted and then the chassis. Unfortunately, the pressure control valve on my compressor crapped out while painting the fuel tank. Should be fixed sometime tomorrow and I can resume painting. It's also interesting reading comments about returning to model building and how things have changed over the years. 1 2

Hoots Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 Inspired by BorntoBattle, some progress pics. The gun and side plates aren't glued yet, I just wanted to test the fitting. Need to do some work on the chipping and wear as I'm not happy with it, also the figure needs some more work to tidy up the straps etc. My eyes see it as done well, the pictures show another story... At some point in time I need to give it a cover of white paint, any suggestions for the best way? 7 1

At some point in time I need to give it a cover of white paint, any suggestions for the best way? Excellent! Boy, I’m FAR from anyone to give advice as there’s as many ways to accomplish your white wash as there are people in this forum - which is quite a few! My E-100 didn’t turn out as I had envisioned it at the start. I was gonna go for a mid winter camo scheme but through errors on my own part (and the huge learning curve I’m still soaking in) the game plan change quite a bit. As you’ve done I shot my base coat but went too light on my dunkelgelb coat and the existing white wash was done rather lightly too. It wasn’t very often that a German armor piece was entitled to a spray gun and white wash instead being slapped on by hand with rags, paint brushes, evergreen limbs - whatever was available and can be represented as such with the model. My current PITA project is gonna represent a well worn white wash and as such the scenario of this model sports a spring motif of a very worn white wash with a lot of German primer showing through. Anyways I mixed my own batch of what I call Tamiya Dirty Off White and applied it over the German red primer and dark yellow after a layer of chipping fluid with my Iwata. This gave it that worn look I was looking for. I know Andy (https://andyshhq.com) and Martin Kovac over at Night Shift on YouTube both have videos exactly on this subject and step you through it pretty thoroughly. No_85_Gramps Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 A few WIP pics of the M1025. Undercarriage in gun metal gray, then after a wash with black. Fuel tank is white as it was a molded from some type of plastic. Body panels being fitted in the last pic, front fender wells will take some fiddling to get in place. Our vehicles shipped from Germany to Saudi Arabia in their standard NATO camo pattern, and the interiors remained NATO green, only the exteriors were painted sand, a couple of weeks after arriving in Saudi Arabia. 3 1 1
Wardog5711 Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 Ours got painted before we left Camp Pendleton, but the paint shop concentrated on the exteriors and the cargo areas. Up front, mine was still green inside. And they made a less then half hearted attempt at masking anything. The zip down side windows were almost useless. ? 1 1

Been lacking inspiration lately ,as my best mate/brother has terminal pancreatic cancer. Have been driving him back and fourth with him to hospital to get treatment which has now come to an end. I really empathize with you Hoots mate and all others who have to go through this kind of thing and I send my condolences to all. This now is my third journey down this road with loved ones and it never gets any easier. Also with my own health problems it is a day to day battle to get back into This modeling lark again. But however I have continued my Buck Rogers Star fighter build and main paint now finished. Pictures to follow. This build like The Big Y wing build is now more important to me now as ever, These were a true collaboration between my Bro and myself, he 3d remodeling of The cockpit, printing parts, wiring, lighting, and general support and inspiration to do these great big projects. No_85_Gramps Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 Sorry to hear about your mate Chris. I've travelled that road a couple of times (wife 2x breast cancer), she's holding on strong. Getting back to your modeling should make for a diversion from those troubles, at least temporarily. Looking forward to seeing some pics of your project! 2 1
