Indeed the reflections are quite apparent, but when we use our eyes in real life, we'd be focusing on the terrain/sky in the background.

We would be able to "see past" the reflections and blot it out of our mental thinking process

This is how it actually works in VR, you see past the reflections on where your eyes are focused.

Looks awesome and takes nearly no performance!

Anyone have issues in VR with ground shimmer? Can’t seem to get rid of it.

Not sure about VR but I do know that in non VR this reduces shimmer. But I have not been able to eliminate it fully.

  •  Landscape filter "Blurred" helps in graphic setting in game

  • Also using supersampling AA also helps (if  u have a vid card that has enough performance to use it as it very GPU intensive) its set via NVidia control panel (or related AMD software)

People with graphical problems who do not use VR may find a resolution with this mod (works with mods off).

Yes, it solve artifacts, but at cost of massive drop of fps.
I will wait for an update.

Another note on the 110 FM. If you stall, and allow yourself to enter an advanced spin at or below 1K....bad things happen and you may or may not survive. You have been warned.

Basically. Try not to spin the airplane. (This was hard to do before...its deadly now)

Others it is barely noticeable or really only noticed in the antenna lines.  -- this is with no mods enabled and using a nvidia card btw.

Look for the blue...

Anyone?

A little bit more feedback for those interested:

I have a copy installed on my "old" PC.  It's a 2600k Sandy Lake processor at stock speed and a single 680 and 32 gigs of ram.

On lowest settings I'm going from 60fps to well in excess of 100.  This is on a 1650x1050 monitor (might be off on resolution).

On everything set to highest I get 20-50fps with lots of hiccups.

I can see where someone could get great performance with a bit of tweaking on a lower end or older system like this one.  This was in quick mission builder Kuban map, 4+4 vs 4+4, autopilot, and 8x speed just for fun.  Older drivers too.  Very nice to see!  The range of systems this sim can run well on appears to grow!  It's certainly better performance than I had seen before on the old box.  ?

Cheers

Edit:. Also caught one ai target fixated and "bounced" another by staying in the blind spots on approach.  Never seen that happen before.

Question: I noticed a checkbox for multi gpu in the options.  Is that new?

I like a few things with the latest patch, the AI is a bit better it seems, but there is a lot of work remaining about it. I like the improved damage model for the engines, it makes inline engines less tough to damage.

However, I find the game quite unstable and glitchy since then. Crashed on me a few times, I had the 'cant load next day' career bug yesterday but thank god I was able to save this career with sqbrowser and manually change de date in the database career file, and also I noticed that the game struggles to actually count your kills properly. In my yak 1 yesterday I shot down 3 planes, one 109 and two hs129. In the debriefing I only had 2 kills, one light and one medium, but at the end only the medium (hs129) was added to my career count. Annoying. 1 kill when I clearly show down 3.

8x super sampling setting on a laptop Nvidia GTX960M card is crazy. Even a desktop Nvidia GTX960 can't run that setting (and that's more powerful card).

I can't even do that on my gtx1070 and that's a far more powerful card (and get decent FPS)

Going higher than 4x AA (any technique) has diminished returns, on the Nvidia GTX960M (for most ppl 4x AA (is more than enough)

I would not go above 2x, and def don't use supersampling (which in IL-2 can only be done via NVidia control panel app anyway)

For your card stick to 2x in game AA (FXAA gives best performance (about lowest cost AA technique there is) and you could go 4x if you use that one)

Supersampling is about the most hard core intensive AA (link) technique there is , (very taxing on a GPU, and needs a lot of VRAM)

I'm surprised that game ran at all like that.

https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-960M-vs-Nvidia-GTX-1070/m27242vs3609

It ran not bad actually. Only 30 fps and 40km draw distance though. I switched to 4x in game (turned all that off in Nvidia control panel). FXAA in game. Now im getting in the 50s FPS in career mode last night. Maybe I'll try going down to 2x, but I'm quite happy with the way it is now. I think this update helped me a lot performance wise.

I'm pretty new to Sims and PC gaming as a whole. I've had this Laptop for years but it was only for video / photo editing purposes until recently. Just got into sims with it around Jan 2020 - So I have a lot to learn.

Thanks for the tips.

Wait... you have 8xSS transparent AA and get 40+ FPS on a GTX960M?

Hell... with 4xAA + Multisample transp. AA (which is 1 step (AA) / 3 steps (transp.AA) lower than yours) I get about 60FPS on my GTX970, and as soon as I raise the transp.AA, FPS is cut to half on each step.

Anyone else being able to run 8xSS transp.AA with a good frame rate?

Am I missing something here?

:drinks:

Mike

My Frame rate wasnt good (only around 30..). I turned all that off yesterday and now use 4X and FXAA in game only (not in Nvidia control panel now) Thanks to some others suggestions. Im now getting FPS in the 50s and I was able to bump my draw distance out to 70km (was 40 before).

I'm new to this and found those 8x settings worked in Cliffs of Dover. But I found that in different forums and trial and error - definitely had no clue what I was doing...

This may be old news already if so forgive me.Last night my Pitool red dotted me to check my version , which was operating just fine with the new update, but I went ahead( I was already to install the recommended v.254e anyway and thought this might be a version of that somehow..)Anyway not only did I get my Pitool version up to 1.0.1.259 (!) but also for the firt tie got a headset reset to 2.1.255.264 (!)

WOW! Here's the good news:finally I have an operating non- cross-eyed key operating ZOOM , with  Parallel Projection  Good news!

The bad news? I have a slight but noticeable shimmer back esp. in shadows or horizontal white lines, something I thought I had lost forever...Turning off Smart Smoothing offers a big improvement but a small amount of shimmer still remains, whether its more than yesterday's clarity is hard to say .(ust yesterday running on Ultra settings ( with an understandable lower FPS, but that was ok...)

So what to do ? I still have the downloaded 12.5 .1 VRZoom exe., which I think was the version I had up until last night OR should I try to find the 254e version recommended?

OR just leave it and say good enough ...after all I do have ZOOM up & working & that's a big deal ( I wonder if I had had Parallel Projection ticked on in the past I could have had Zoom a lot sooner? Oh well...)

Suggestions?

Agreed. It was definitely missing the "pancake" factor before and was next to impossible to stall with the pitch axis using "turn and burn" tactics. You could literally pull the stick back rapidly and completely with no ill effects. Not so anymore. I feel this is a MUCH MORE believable FM than the previous one. It's going to take a bit of getting used to for "exclusive" 110 drivers like me (muscle memory), but I feel it's still going to be a very effective platform in a dogfight. As far as bombing, nothing has really changed in that regard, unless you over control in the dive pullout and stall. But even in the "E" model yesterday, I had no issues with over controlling or stalling in the pull out, it dive bombs almost exactly the same as before.

Yeah, keep it within the "envelope" of performance and it should still fly with very good response.  It will most likely only be a factor if it's pushed right to the edge.

7 hours ago, Yogiflight said:

The thing is, what now still is missing, is the correct engines. We still fly with engines, which according to the Devs were used at the beginning of the E2 production as a placeholder for the planned production engines, that were not yet ready to use. According to the specifications, the E2 entered service in october 1940. Who does really believe, that one year later, in october 1941, when Operation Taifun started, there still was a squadron, which took part on that important operation, to conquer Moscow, that was still equipped with aircrafts with pre production engines, and even more got replacement aircrafts all over the Battle of Moscow (and Battle of Stalingrad) with the same overaged engines?

So, I'm guessing the actual production engines had better performance than the "placeholder"?  I'm willing to bet it wasn't by much.   Besides, more power still wouldn't be enough of a counter for overloading the AoA, which is what this FM update (as far as I can tell) deals with.

Also, we don't have any video of a Real Life pilot comparing the 110 to the sim and stating that the IL-2 model behaves as if it's underpowered - unlike another plane featured in the series.

Interesting. Regarding the 110 I was not aware of that.  I thought perhaps someday we *might* get an F version nestled between our E and G models, but that's another discussion likely for another place.  Thank you for the information Mobile ?.

Blizten, I'm in the same situation but have not noticed any bugs yet.  I'm at the 254e version.  I described the same experience as you in another thread, which I would link you to but I'm on a phone ATM.... Anyway I'd say if it's working good touch nothing!  Some guys are reporting bad lighting on the newest driver and firmware, and they have to downgrade and then upgrade in a specific order to get their headsets working again.  So I wouldn't muck with it if it's good.  Fenris commented that he planned to stay on his version for this reason I mentioned in my comments.  S!

I was playing yesterday at night and I noticed a lot of shimering on ground and a strange behavior on rendering like if the ground was rendering a bad quality and then rise the quality. My card is a RTX 2070 super latest Nvidia drivers, when I have time I am going to try to reproduce it again and record it.

Finally got to get in and try out the new settings. I'm really impressed. VR SS set to 1.4, settings on Ultra preset with 4xMSAA and only shadows and mirrors set to medium. Seeing 47-65 fps above Kuban with 12 planes up. It looks damn pretty!

Thanks devs! I've been blown away by evey update you guys do!

Is it just me, or are MG strikes on targeted aircraft a lot more visible now?  Was dogfighting some Me110's and there seemed to be much more sparkles and twinkles as gunfire raked along their wings and such...

If you have problems running the game after the update:

1) First of all, delete 3dmigoto if you were using it, I really don't think the old version of it would work since the shaders are completely different;

2) The same goes for ReShade and similar graphics mods, they may or may not work;

3) Verify cache integrity if you're using the Steam version;

4) If you have custom settings forced in the graphics card control panel for IL-2 or globally, set them to default;

5) If you have Radeon, we'll try to find a solution to the squares of doom problem, for now please try different AA method or no AA at all.

When I attempted to start Il-2, the game would only go to the black start up screen.  When I Alt tabbed to my desk top my mouse was gone.  The mouse would be available after a Ctrl+Alt+Delete and would allow me to select the Task Manager but the mouse would still be gone on the desk top and I was not able to shut down the Il-2 exe via the Task Manager.  I had to go back to the Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart my PC.  After a few more times of this no-start my Norton Security showed that in starting Il-2 it was treating it like an intrusion and blocked it.  Even after I clicked trust this operation the game hung up with same results above.  Only after I disabled the Norton Security Smart Firewall did the game load and run like normal.

Thanks for the hint to the owners of Radeon, until the main problem is fixed, this hint helps partially solve the problem with glitches.

A small step in technical terms, but a big step in the historical reconstruction of that era.

This looks to cover the issue very well. It appears to not be an issue with the grass but the high detail render area. I do not have the graphical problem just relaying information.

Wow, as someone who's been sitting on a high end, new GPU but saddled with a very old CPU, the performance boost in this latest patch has blown me away. I have an average FPS increase of 15-20 fps during heavy load and in best-case scenarios or idle cruise my FPS has nearly DOUBLED in VR. That sort of performance boost is damn near unheard of. Colour me impressed!

Thank you for your hard work as usual!

I think this may just be the cockpit reflections of a bubble canopy.

I can see why you would think that but as this shot shows it isn't that. all the lines radiate out from the reflection of the sun.

Has anyone else noticed the odd effect in the area of the prop when flying the Tempest - it does seem to vary in intensity.

Outlines as such could be a result of resolution selected and AA applied to that.

Clouds are a beast of their own accord and cloud settings might also be in effect .

Try upping cloud settings in Graphics Settings if you haven't already and they don't impact your fps too much or

If you are in VR, try no AA and upping SS resolution,

if not, then - hey it's a bonus as it is easier to follow planes through clouds. ?

Here is something positive: it seems like that invisible line at the cloudbase is gone now. One of those things you see when you cross the bottom of the clouds, there used to be a clear barrier that now seems to be gone.

With my nvidia card I can either enable or disable fxaa AND/OR mfaa per game.  Both of these were set to off for me (under nvidia control panel) when I first ran the update.

If am sure this is a dumb question, but following @Sneaksie advice above to go "default" for the GC/Nvidia settings, both (global & IL2) of mine are also set to "off" under "Anti-aliasing - FXAA" and there is no "per application" setting.

So, if I don't change that Nvidia setting, but select FXAA AA in-game, does the in-game setting override the Nvidia "off" setting?  If not, then am I just turning off ALL AA if I select FXAA in-game without changing the Nvidia "off" setting?  (So far, I have tried not to change the Nvidia settings as I have been experimenting with VR settings in game and in Steam).

Thank you in advance for answering dumb questions. :salute:

Off in the NV Control Panel will not force the ingame FXAA off, in other words, FXAA on in-game + FXAA off in the control panel will result in using IL2's FXAA as usual.

Thanks to how FXAA is implemented, it can be "stacked" on top of other AA. In simple terms, it is nice to think of it as a simple "filter" to your screen after-the-fact, even if that is a bit of an oversimplification.

It's not a dumb question at all - the honest answer is "I don't know yet".  Too busy lately just checking it all out and being awed by what I find, wandering back here to report, reading everyone else's reports and wasting more time.  :)

Today is a good day.  I had the same questions and have been impressed by what I see at FXAA on, and 8x under control panel (because why the hell not?) and 4x FXAA in game.  Been playing a mix of VR and single screen and enjoying the heck out of it.  But eventually, I'll get around to it.  ?
