Game not recognizing Warthog HOTAS axis?

Hi guys,

 

I recently decided to get back into this game after a hiatus and reinstalled all my hardware and software (Windows 10 pc, previously was 7). I have the Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and have been using their T.A.R.G.E.T software to run an il2 profile, this always worked perfectly fine before but now the game just doenst recognise the stick and throttle AT ALL, even without TARGET there is nothing. Windows recognises them and the Windows test function picks them up fine. Just in game is the problem.

 

I have tried reinstalling, unplugging but to no avail. One thing I did find was people talking about the devices.txt file which lists your active input devices...this file has remained empty for me when booting up the game and trying to get a mission going, does this mean the game isnt registering the HOTAS?

 

Im honestly stumped and really want to get this to work.

@jacster1066 Welcome back.

Since last Thursday my VKB Gunfighter Pro WWII joystick has been screwed. During a takeoff I touched an unassigned button and dropped a bomb. I later tried to adjust elevator trim and the button was dead. Same with all the pinkie related functions. I ended the flight and started checking around for the problem. Couldn't find anything wrong but since then the problem has migrated to the flight controls. When I pull back on the stick I don't know if I'm going to up or down. The VKB calibration tool recognizes all the buttons and the game acknowledges input in Settings but in game half the input isn't picked up. Makes no sense.

 

I've tried everything with no luck. I've reinstalled VKB config app, joytokey, Steam and Windows WMR with no effect. Today I reinstalled Windows 10 Pro on a clean ssd and loaded everything new and fresh so as not to bring any garbage from a previous set up. I was awake 36 hours Saturday (my birthday!!) without a break trying to solve this with VKB tech support. No luck.

 

Since I hadn't heard of anyone with the same problem I was just considering chucking my 8 month old Gunfighter Pro for another stick. Now I'll hold off until there's a fix.

I will say the techs at VKB were very patient and helpful. They couldn't help me get it right but they at least worked with me. Thanks to @fallout9.

Really odd because just this week have had issues with my buttons on my vkb gunfighter pro L.  I wonder if something is going on

Everything checks out as far as the VKB config and key response is concerned. During my marathon of troubleshooting with three VKB techs over 36 hours we could find nothing wrong. One of the techs used my key mapping on his stick and had no problems. On the other hand the more I'd test different possibilities more problems would arise on my end.

I believe it has to do with the game's key assignment. On one flight I'd have a button set up for elevator trim switch and it wouldn't be there in game, instead that button would release bombs or the next push would lower landing gear. Assignments would jump around at random.

This video by @TX-Zigrat shows what it does to the pitch and roll functions. Pull the stick back and you may go up, down, left or right there's no telling. Profiles check out in key mapping settings and you can see the stick is sending a clear, smooth motion that's somehow getting lost in translation.

Interesting one, I have managed to fix it on mine and it was an issue with Steam....right click the game on steam and select Properties>then i turned the "Steam Input Per Game Setting" to FORCED OFF. I think there was interference with me using a controller on steam for other games. 

 

Now it works fine just sorting my key bindings. Might help you guys
