Linking Steam content BACK to IL2

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

I first purchased this game and a couple of expansions and extra planes on Steam around mid last year. A few weeks ago, I purchased the Battle of Bodenplatte and few collector planes directly through the IL2 website.

So the issue I have is that if I run the game through steam, I can get all my content, no problem there.

I'm running a VR headset, specifically the RIFT S. I run Open Composite software (which bypasses SteamVR) due to the fact that SteamVR does not work well with the Rift S headset and basically I get much better performance running OpenComposite instead of SteamVR.

However, when I log run the game I login to it using my IL2 account and it only picks up the planes and Bodenplatte planes through that I purchased from the site, and none of the planes I have from Steam.

So is there a way to link BACK from Steam to my IL2 account?

Thanks in advance

Same here. Was asking the same question in another thread a few weeks ago, but nobody could tell me.

I bought BoS and fw190a3 on steam and everything else from il2 web store, accounts linked!

I too have Rift S and bypass steamVR with OpenComposite but i have no problems like missing BoS or 190a3 when playing game.

Try switch back to Steam, re-link accounts, update game trough steam if neccessary, start game in steam than switch back to OpenComposite.

It should ask you to log in once again oce switched back to Ocomposite.

No sorry, you have to run it through Steam to get all your content. No other way, but it still gives you the most flexibility on purchases.

I'm exactly the same, run the steam version and it should be all set, with OC running too.

Ahh, ok. I was confused because someone wrote in an old 2017ish thread on this forum, that you don't need steam running to start the game via il2.exe in steam gamefolder. Indeed it does when you have your accounts linked, but the content bought on steam is still missing then.

I don't even have VR. But I have both il2 game folders on my ssd system drive and was wondering if I may delete one of them to save some space. Looks like I only need to keep steam version to access all content I bought.

Yep this worked! I thought that by running from Steam will also run SteamVR as when you click Launch it says to launch via SteamVR. When you pick this it runs VR but bypasses SteamVR so all good!

It would be possible to do it, it just requires code to configure, but it seems its not going to happen, and not because its not technically possible to do it  Personally I don't like this and think it ,... well , sucks as I'm now forced to use the steam client to access recent new steam purchases. (even though my old steam purchases work fine with standalone client). Most of my content is non steam purchased, but if i don't use the linked steam client  , none of the recent steam purchases are avail.

ie Devs know what steam Il-2 GB purchases your steam ID owns, its just a database lookup.

For details on how this works see last two posts on this thread.

I started with Steam, not knowing about IL2 as separate company. Olga said then i could not. So i bought the stuff again, and now there's a great percentage so grab your chance?

Seems like I have similar problems linking as noted in my post,  and have not been successful in linking yet.  Here is the background I have, and problems linking Steam purchased items with 1C Game Studios (IL2Sturmovik.com) purchases.  I should add I did print a copy of the PDF as recommended by  =RS=Stix_09 on how to link Steam accounts (BOS, Battle of Kuban, Blazing Steppe, etc and IL2Sturmovick.com purchased items    using the guide (  https://il2sturmovik.com/m/SteamAndIL2AccountGuide.pdf). I was also looking at purchasing from  IC Game Studios some recent sale items sent out on 4-24-20 too, but need to wait until I can confirm linking works.

1. I have BOS Deluxe game I purchased on Steam.  Later purchased Battle of Kuban, Blazing Steppe, Battle of Bodenplatte on Steam, along with other planes, and all are visible on the Steam installed Battle of Stalingrad.  No problems here.

2.Purchased from 1C Game Studios (IL2Sturmovik.com) website Campaign Ten Days of Autumn, Fortress on the Volga, and P-38J-25 Collector Plane

3. Using the SteamAndIL2Account Guide, my situation appears to be like the B1 option, which is "I have the Steam install of the game and I successfully logged in from this installation before."

4. When I launch Battle of Stalingrad from STEAM (using the green button), I do not get the screen to pop up which you input your email and password for Steam and the "Link Accounts and Login" in the green box to Il2Sturmovik.com account.  Not sure why I don't get it.  I have logged out of my Steam account, then logged back in to my Steam account, and then opened Battle of Stalingrad on STEAM again, and still do not see the screen to log in to link accounts.  From the Guide, it says when you launch the BOS game for the first time after the update 3.004 release you should be getting the link screen which is shown in the guide.

5.As a side note when I try to launch IL2Sturmovik from the install program on the IL2Sturmovik website, the Battle of Stalingrad does not launch either, as it does not recognize the Steam installed version of BOS.

If anyone has any ideas what I am doing wrong, please let me know as I would like to use the content purchased from IL2Sturmovik website on my Steam installed version of BOS.

Thanks

Is your steam email and IL2 email the same one? Mine was....

My issue was more in regards to linking back to running something I purchased on steam, to run it WITHOUT steam due to performance degradation from SteamVR launcher.

Standalone BoX, running VR will still launch steamVR, unless you set it up to run opencomposite so really you're in the same boat either way and not going to see any performance differences.

Yes, my Steam and IL2 email address are the same, but different passwords.  Yesterday after posting the above note, I did get the window where you have the option to link accounts, somehow  I followed the directions in the guide above, and still did not have access to the content I bought on the IL2Sturmovik.com site.  I guess I am faced with only purchasing new content on Steam, rather than on the IL2 site.  I did put a Support note into IL2 Sturmovik site, so will see if they come up with any suggestions.

I have yet to get BOS to run from my desktop.  Linking from Steam to the desktop BOS has not worked either.  I don't mind Steam, but IL2Sturmovik has more sales than does Steam for items I wish.

Thanks for replying.

BTW, how do you get or attach the various logo's under your name?

note: It does not matter if you use a different email for steam from your IL-2 account. what you are linking is your steam ID to your IL-2 login ( at il2sturmovik.com)., not your steam email address to your il-2 login (they CAN use the same email address , but it has no impact on this if they are , or are not the same)

To confirm your steamID is linked to your website ID (ie the account you brought stuff direct from website with) , if you login to the IL-2 website  (at "https://il2sturmovik.com/account/login/?next=/about/" ) with your steam ID to login (ie not the linked website login because you want to test the steam id is linked) , you should see the IL-2 content you have purchased(from website), if you do not then you have not linked your steam id to that account correctly

image.thumb.png.6a0030b9979d045d2263ccfe6e60af5d.png

After login to sturmovik.com  with your steam ID, This shows purchases from sturmovik.com web site (linked to the steam ID)

https://il2sturmovik.com/store/purchases/

Logos under name only show for (main game, not collector planes)  content purchased from website (not steam purchases)

So In my case that's Battle of Kuban (BOK)and flying circus (FC vol1), none of the collector planes I purchased and none of my steam purchases get a logo.

You can't "LINK from Steam to the desktop BOS " that's nonsense. You either use steam client or standalone client.

Sounds like you are the problem here.

You should be using steam client if you own steam content (and link that steam ID to your website ID to get access to website purchases and steam purchases).

Works perfectly for me , I can access both steam and non steam purchases from the steam client.

From the Guide, it says when you launch the BOS game for the first time after the update 3.004 release you should be getting the link screen which is shown in the guide

You only get the prompt to link accounts the first time you run a fresh install of the steam client version of the game(because it saves this info on your computer after this, and in your case it sounds like that saved info is incorrect). I think it also prompts every launch if you have never linked accounts.

BTW that email login you enter here is the website ID account login info, not your steam info (game already knows your steam login info if you use steam client and are logged into steam)
image.thumb.png.4ab6ceb77fea625fbab68b36761a7d1a.png

So either do fresh install  of the steam client ver of game (delete it and reinstall)  and or log a support ticket to ask how to get the options to show up.

STIX,

Thanks for your help here.  Good news, it does appear my accounts are linked, as I was able to log into Steam from my IL2 link you had provided.  Here is what I get.

Probably.  I had downloaded the Game Installer from the IL2 website, and was hoping with the link between accounts it would recognize I had BOS on my Steam account and also install BOS files necessary for playing IL2 from the desktop.  Steam is fine for now.

Need bigger picture , cant see that image its too small resolution  to view(even expanded it's small) , but does not matter .

The important thing is all non steam purchases are seen here when you use your steam id to login to this website. If they do then the accounts are linked correctly. (and if so the problem is with the login page connecting to the game, has incorrect login.

ie in my case

image.thumb.png.f00b09b578701342001a238b409a07bf.png

If you purchased  "TenDays..." and "Campaign Fortress.." from website they should show here under purchases (see my purchases from website above), if not they were purchased on a different account to this. However they do not have logos on website, only major content like Battle of Kuban , (stand alone games)

Forum registration requires same login as used in game (same username and password) (so when you registered for forum its same login ID as these purchases as above). THERE are NO logos for minor purchases, only full game purchases (ie non steam purchases of full games)

Ie account ID you purchased content on (https://il2sturmovik.com/about/) = https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/

ie =RS=Stix_09 is my in game ID and website ID is the he email address, which is used as the identifier for username for purchases and forum. Email identifies all my purchases on website are under.(steam is completely different login, website purchase ID/password and forum ID/password are same login(email/password)

Maybe you have two different IL-2 web accounts??

example:
The email address  is what is used to ID you on forum and website login for purchases, BUT the username is what displays on forum page as your username, and in game also (not the email you used to login)
image.png.5799e3059e458cac7c95801390eb9546.png

So again"LOGO on forum profile only show FULL game Purchases (ie BOK , FC in my case) from website (not steam). There is no logos for minor content purchases (and you have to use the same login username and password on forums as one that you made full game purchases under on website).

ALL website purchases show under purchases (as seen in my above picture),. As you can see all my website purchases show here (and this is the account login(email address) that is linked to my steam account.

Steam has an separate ID (its a number )., When you are logged into steam program and run steam client version of game , it passes this ID automatically to the game, AND  if its linked to your website id (the email and password used for website purchases), then game gives you both steam and website content in game.(you never have enter the steam ID as long as steam program is running and you are logged into steam AND you use steam client ver of game.

How can I find my SteamID?

Spoiler

Alternatively, we can use your 17 digit Steam ID which can be found by doing the following:

  1. Open up your Steam client and choose View, then click Settings
  2. Choose Interface and check the box that reads, "Display Steam URL address when available"
  3. Click OK
  4. Now click on your Steam Profile Name and select View Profile

Your SteamID will be listed in the URL at the top left (it's the really long number at the end.)

(YES If you deleted your steam copy of the game and reinstalled it fresh, it would again ask about linking on first login to game as per that PDF file from before)

BUT you can try this first, to check and enter the correct linked web site account used with your steam client version of game.

This is how I got login to show up again: (like 5 minutes ago)
1)exit steam (so steam program is not running). The steam program (I don''t mean steam version of the game, exit that also if its running)

2)run game from steam version directly from your hard drive in my case  location is:
"D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\game\il-2.exe")

3) At login prompt, This is where you need to enter the email and password that matches your website purchases profile(the one where you see all the purchased made from website) AND TICK REMEMBER PASSWORD!

image.thumb.png.3fb8b6e434f3362a406bb940eb68525d.png
Now at this point you will not get any steam content showing in game ,ONLY content associated with the email/password you used just now, because steam program is not running (so game can't get your steam ID info)

exit game at this point

4)Restart steam program and login to it then

5)Run game again from within steam program,

If it prompts you for email and password again (reenter as step 3) and tick remember again.

In my case at this point this is what I got here (it was filled out with what I used in step 3 already), so I clicked on green option to login and all my content now shows(steam and non steam purchases).

image.thumb.png.028d874211358aa1a39c6c03345a77c1.png

6) Next time you login using steam client (with steam running) you will not get this prompt anymore after this again (unless you redo all the steps again)

@Jason_Williams I can not get any content bought from main il2 store to  steam , The status is  I purchased all GB modules  from steam , then purchased  3 historical campaigns  from mail il2 main site . i did the account link and follow all guidelines from developer how to get link . It seams link is active because my il2 username appear in the BOS main screen instead of random digital user of steam . the problem is  the all purchased campaigns are still locked

this is important to solve by developer .  steam uses need to get  link function operational then  can continue buying content from  main il2 store , now for me as steam user any purchase from il2 main website  is not safe

Yeah I did a test a few days ago by buying the first german static campaign and my steam and this sight refused to link no matter what I did... Instructions on how to do it was sent too me pretty promptly and I found that I had already followed them to the letter. So I tried again and no go... I am a Steam user and I like the system of keys that they use if you have a game you didn't buy from Steam. So I'll just chalk this up as a test run and I didn't lose to much money. Just wish that all of Great Battles was on steam instead split up as such... So it goes as a donation.

Just to be clear

No content purchased on il-2 web site will ever show in the steam program itself(where you launch steam games, view steam store etc), steam program only shows item purchased through steam store (or content purchased that has a steam key, which is purchased from an authorised steam reseller)

(ie il-2 website does not sell steam content)

The game will  only show steam content from the steam client version of game and website purchased content  if you have linked your website account to your steam account correctly. You must use steam version of game too (not the standalone ver). and you must also be connected and logged into the steam program (when u launch the game.)

image.png.86d05612d6f2e2bb4872cc6e37077175.png

My posts above show how to check they are linked correctly, and how to check its using the correct email (il-2 website login) to link the steam id correctly to it when u run the game from the steam version of the game.

One question

Can we buy scripted campaign from main il3 website which are not available with steam and activate this on steam after doing account link with steam ?

yes and no
They are never "activated on steam" because they are not steam content. you must link your steam id to your website login email id to see them in game as per my above post to have access to them from the steam version of the game.

Donation is donation but this is  forced one  . developer should find way to solve this issue with steam . Developer should protect his game fans .

(This is not a problem with steam)

If you can login to il-2 website with steam id or the email address and you can see your same website purchases  , then the problem is the signin email address does not match the website email address when you start the program using the steam client version of the game with a logged in and running steam program also.

The website ID is the linked email address you can  use to logon to website that shows your purchases (not the user name seen in game main screen , in my case =RS=Stix_09 is my user  id, but its not my login website ID(the linked email address)

(So loggon to website it does not matter if using the steam ID to logon or the email address to web site both should also show the same purchases because the two are linked.

If that's the case then  the problem  is the steam client version of game has not been given the correct linked email address as shown below.

image.png

So in my case like this is what i entered when running the steam client version of the game when it starts. (website email id, that has all my non steam purchases)

(shown in below 2 pictures) (login using green button)

image.png

image.png.949272bb8550a6ddb2e5c5a86c4681c2.png

NOTE:
This screen only shows the first time you do this starting the steam client version of the game. Once you do this you will not get this above screen again to enter the email address like this.

SO if you don't get this login screen starting the steam version of il-2 GB then follow the steps 1-6 below (copy from my previous post)

Spoiler

Additional info:

(the game stores this login info here in this folder once u do this the first time (so you can delete all files in this folder and it will recreate it, but back them up first anyway before deleting these files):

"Steam\SteamApps\common\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\ACCData"

If that all fails then, log a support ticket, they usually respond in 24-48 hrs.

@=RS=Stix_09

I realty appreciate your detailed instruction to help . this time it was  very organized  and inspired  me to rethink again about the situation  . I notice that the content of scripted campaigns which are exclusive to main store are listed in steam but unlocked this means the link is active . then other free campaign " red tide " was unlocked when i check the reason  I  i found there is two founder plans that need to be unlocked , (U 2vs collector plan and LA 5N series 2 ) so I did the following

A) I decided to take the risk and buy it from main store not from steam . to check the campaign will be unlocked . then Yes The free campaign is unlocked and I can play it using the two plans I just bought from main IL2 store . Also the plans are active for Career  mode and everywhere in the game .

B) Coming back to the Original issue for the official scripted  campaigns   Achtung spitfire it also require collector plan Spitfire MK,VB collector plan . I go ahead and bought it , But this unfortunately did not unlock the   campaign but the collector plan is active in carrier mode

This mend that official scripted campaign can not be unlocked in steam game even if the profile is linked bur free campaign with plan bough from main website are good to go

C) I decided to buy  BOK from main websiteto use itin  GB launcher because both other scripted campaign need this theatre  ( Havoc over Kuban and Achtung spitfire ) which are also locked in the main launcher because it require BOK but this also was not possible . I can buy it as gift only , This means if any thnig  bought on steam . it could not be bough again in the main site

Bottom-line Account linkage is still troublesome but at least we can but some elements from main site and use it on steam ,

Now I am going to write to customer support explaining this situation because this is clearly a bug

@dnakhaled
Yes It is assumed to play a scripted campaign you need to own the required content  (planes AND the theater of war the campaign is set in). Linking you steam account to your website account only joins content together, when you launch the steam version of the game, and buying a campaign requires that you own any content (regardless if its free campaign or not). This is stated with the campaign description on the website(I have highlighted this in red circles in below pictures)

BTW: You can check if you own any planes in the quick mission builder (only planes you own are playable here)

Also to be clear again:, linking does not unlock the content on steam itself , what is does do it let you access non steam content purchased from the website from the steam client version of the game when you run it so that both the steam content and the website content are playable in the game. if you run the non steam client version of the game for example you will only have access to non steam content and if you run the steam client version you can have both (steam and non steam content) if the account is linked.

Examples of content requirements for campaign to unlock, if you buy a campaign:

1)To play the campaign "Havoc over Kuban" flying the A20 set in Kuban Theater you need to own the Battle of Kuban, (because it has  Kuban Map  AND  all the kuban planes including the  required A20)

image.png.7ab81e6fc5e32b0a18224941252476b2.png

2)To play "Achtung Spitfire!" campaign  you need to own the collector plane spitfire VB AND the required theater of war that campaign is set in (again in this case its also "Battle of Kuban" (because that has the required maps, Battle of Kuban)

ie buying a campaign does not include any required content (that's a separate purchase)

@=RS=Stix_09 Thank you

All what you  wrote int your above reply related to linking historical campaign  is very clear to me and understood

The only problem  now that it seams unsolved is to (unlock or be able to play) official Historical campaign on steam after buying it from main website

After many now both steam and original IL2 account are linked .All content bought from main site can be used on steam except historical Campaign . To be more precise in my case I bought the theatre of war BOD,BOK,BOB,BOM  from steam but the campaign from website I have all necessary plans required to play the campaign  .

Unfortunately the campaigns  in steam it are still locked , theoretically all conditions met but not functional

This kind of  problem I think is in the game code itself  . This required  IL2 developer team and steam to work together to get it solved

I can help a bit more as follows , just need a bit of clarity first:

Questions (when you run the steam version of the game):

1)Can you confirm what scripted campaigns do not work for you from these you purchased(the picture below shows what u indicated u own from website)

2)Do any work?

3)Do all the other purchases all work from web site? (plane and map availability can be checked in quick mission builder)

(Myself I have access to all my purchases from the website when running the steam version of the game and all my website purchases are shown in a previous post)

4)Can you also do a screenshot of the main screen of the steam version of the game running.

Also something to try if you have not yet tried this yet...

Spoiler

1)Try a verify of game files from steam first LINK(how to verify game files for a game)
2) Try uninstalling steam version of game  and reinstalling it if 1) does not work.

This is what you shown you have purchased from web site so far:

1)Can you confirm what scripted campaigns do not work for you from these you purchased(the picture below shows what u indicated u own from website)

Yes I confirm That scripted campaign bought from main site are not working Except Blazing steppe because I buy it from steam also  , What I own from website and steam updated like this

1267108360_newpudS.thumb.jpg.9e1dbb5f2e81d4e536ca571cbfde83ba.jpgSTEAMWEB.thumb.jpg.9512b016052d6e6c18abec9072b213fd.jpg

)Do any work?

None of official scripted campaign bought from website work but official scripted campaign bought from steam and free ones works.  Please note Balzig steppe and fortress on the volga are bought from steam . By mistake I bought Blazing Steppe twice (Normally Main site should not allow this ) because when I tried to buy BOK in the main site to play the campaign  there it does not authorize and said I can buy it only as gift .

Yes all are are working and accessible . I checked quick mission and Career mode and free campaign all work fine with content bought from main website .Only Achung Spitfire and Havoc on Koban are locked

4)Can you also do a screenshot of the main screen of the steam version of the game running.
