A very lucky escape...

Thursday 22nd October.

Lots of fun today even with reduced numbers. Some new names too. S! everyone who was able to make it, especially the chap who had his Albatros up at 4k!

Those flights of 3 Fokkers or 2 D7s and a Dr1 were tricky!

THURSDAY 26th NOVEMBER, 2020

Was great to see a reasonable crowd given the Thanksgiving  holiday in the US.  Many of the regulars but a few new names and one 'old' name too!

Personally, not a night to remember but unfortunately hard to forget. My luck ran out and lost a big streak to a piece of wing debris from a CL2.

THURSDAY DECEMBER 3rd, 2020

Had a great time today.

US3PG welcomed back Larner and Biddle, and the Major made an appearance too. Klug flew out with us as well and the TS chat was a lot of fun!

The Central guys had a truckload of JG1s back flying as well as most of the regulars, so we saw a solid 38+ most of the night. Combined with the Metz-like snow map there was a kind of of RoF deja vu, and I mean that in a good way.

Had some big scraps near Arras with what seemed like waves of Fokkers coming over. I think at one point there were 3 or 4 separate multi-plane scraps going on from up at 2500 down to 100m. The new clouds are already being used quite cleverly by J30 and i can see tons of potential setting traps and that kind of thing.

Here's my live stream. I'll get time stamps done soon.

Great turnout again. Large flights of Fokkers seen and mixed attacks of Dr1s and CL2s.

Unfortunately whenever we were up North a large bunch would raid South and when we were South...yeah, they were North. Despite that a few in the squad had good scraps near Arras.

I missed most of the action and my gunnery was 'off' too for some reason. Did manage to track a flight of 6 D7s at over 3500m near Bethune, but again we couldn't gather our forces there at that moment so all I could do was make a lousy hit & run with a jammed gun.

Good action all over the place today.  The usual low mess at Arras and Lens, but more impressive to me were the formations of CL2s with fighter high cover up north.  That was well thought out and difficult to attack without massing some numbers.

Highlights (and lowlights) time-stamped in the description.

THURSDAY 7th JANUARY, 2021

Plenty of pilots and good fun. Cheers all!

The Snow map is wearing thin. Seem to get it all the time but it does create action.

28th were down south most of the night and kept running into J30 raiding parties and recons (probably?). They trapped me good one time and was lucky to escape it with Patterson's help. Also followed someone as they tried to escape by going above the overcast, i followed and finally found him above, only for the bugger to escape by going below again!

Timestamps to main highlights in description.

Was following your fight heading S from Lens and lost the other contacts. You were over our trench line and I tried to close. I opened up just as you started to dive and saw the tracers go over your wings. Figured I got a couple into you when your wings came off but assumed it was self induced when I didn't get a kill tally.

Made for a good laugh when you reviewed your track.

Yes, lolz indeed. Was really funny the music syncing up to the death.

That playlist is self aware dude. It does it ALL THE TIME.

THURSDAY 14th JAN.

Great fun as always and over 50 pilots on. Tonight found us over German territory for the most part.

In the first map we attempted to cover the southern factory target for the bombers but were interrupted by 4 Fokkers co-alt before we got there.

The second map we fared better while escorting a recon.  Again there were lots of Fokkers over the target and a large scrap ensued. Barely with our breath back we ran into a returning (recon?) flight on the way home. S! all.

Timestamps to action highlights should be in the description

Baer, you should install the J5 skin pack. It makes for pretty pictures.

Better make room.   Our artists are busy in the paint sheds.  That's right, we had to take conscript Ragnutzs' plane shed for a second paint shop.

In other words, there will be a few upcoming J5 paint patch updates coming over the next month or so.

THURSDAY 21st JAN, 2021.

Another strong turnout including some veterans we haven't seen in FC for a while.

We tried something different, running historical mission types selected by RNG. On the night that included 2 CAPs over frontline targets, an alert patrol and a sector patrol. The dreaded ground attack never came up fortunately!

The first, a Tank CAP East of Brazieux was pretty intense. 5+ fokkers came down in 2 waves.

They got a couple of us, we got a couple of them but had to retreat. After regrouping and arrival of RFC reinforcements we managed to force them off. Very interesting to see it later from the Central perspective too, with Wolfpack and Reqieum both streaming.

So plenty of excitement generated by the mission generator ?

Of course after that the skies emptied and we barely saw any EA above 500m.

Not a classic but still fun.

Lots of action, even in the snow map.

The RNG missions this week included Ground Attack, something no-one was looking forward to.

We also seemed to run into J30 everywhere and never had an easy scrap with them. Another patrol had a tricky encounter with a flaring CL2 and a Manfred up north. Obviously never trust a plane flaring but still we managed to get surprised with more EA turning up every time we started to get on top.

All good fun though and it was great to see a couple of our newer guys US213_Picard and US3PG_Maxwell getting stuck in and bringing down a few.

Got the damn snow map again..for the entire night's session. 3 hrs is way too long for that map.

Anyway, whether it put people off or not i don't know but it was a pretty quiet night.

We had a lot of 3PGs up, including new guys Maxwell and MacFadden, who both coped well with the extreme conditions and scored victories.

Most of the fights were against flights of D7s hugging the cloudbase. Didn't really leave us with many options.

That's one of many things I believe .

It was a nice change of pace when when the stormy weather first appeared, but the novelty has worn off and it gets a groan every time it pops up on the rotation. Dancing between a double layer of clouds is really a lot more enjoyable.

THURSDAY FEB 18th, 2021

A night of 2 halves really. First half the livestream wasn't delivering video, which was kinda lucky as we spent most of it trying form up and fend off 3 D7s that were up there doing their astronaut impressions. Hardly any Centrals on at this point, which was weird.

Later we chased a couple of D7s all the way from Allonville in the South to Le Herliere in the North and then across the mud up at 4800m, by which time i was on fumes having been up for the best part of 90mins. We never got close and were disappointed to let them go, though a 2nd 3PG flight did continue chasing and engaged successfully.

Then the Centrals started logging on and i got the stream going too. Just in time to see our guys bounce a CL2 and then we all hit 4 D7s up North and i got to warm up the Vickers a little.

That was Mueller and I. I'm pretty sure Cumshot was directing you on comms.  We were engaged and I got engine damage so I couldn't hang around. Had a quick scrap with Rummy earlier...he really waxed my Dr1 with a wengenace. Overall not too bad for a Presidents week event.

Make it rain Rummy.

I guess if we leave the door open you never know what will come in..

Btw our new guy Cpl Maxwell, claimed a yellowish d7 with last night. :)

Reckons he knocked the engine out.

That was me.  Larner damaged the engine in the first pass. I finished it in a power dive with Maxwell following putting in some parting kisses and hugs. Manged to dead stick it safely to the dogfight airfield and it was recorded as emegency landing.

Must've had a Dr1 Squadron move in opposite this week. Tons of the twisty yellow buggers, plus the usual D7s parading their uber spars. Throw in a balloon bust mission and some good Central pilots - never a dull moment. S! All
