I don't need it but allow me to hype how much fun the U-2VS can be. It's not a high performer but it's an entirely different way of experiencing IL-2 at speeds and altitudes that are so much lower than most other aircraft. Fly it with friends for extra enjoyment.

I bought the U-2 with the 75% off code in the last sale, kind of on a lark. I'm largely uninterested in WWI and later era biplanes but I'm fascinated by the role it played on the Eastern Front in a war that was, frankly, far beyond its capabilities. So I decided to give it a go.

It feels very different from the WWII plane, it seems to rely almost as much on rudder as aileron to make a turn. It moves so slow I at first thought I would constantly be on the edge of a stall.

Just flying it around for fun, with no objectives, I feel like I got my money's worth. Strangely enough I found it best suited for the Bodenplatte map. In most of the planes of the late war you are moving very fast. The U-2 lets you take slow, lazy flights right over the cities, along the canals and rivers, under bridges. You can land in front of the monuments and get a close up view. I haven't tried using it for any kind of combat just yet, I may never do that, but its fun and relaxing to just fly. 

It's also great as a gentle introduction to the sim. I had my daughter take off, fly around the city, and even land in a small field. It moves slowly enough that you don't find yourself getting into trouble super quickly if you start to dive or turn.

I'm tempted to try it out online for a lark. Maybe next TAW if I have the time. It would be fun to try and dodge experten in 109s!

The U-2 and the Ju-52 should be in every players game, especially if it is given to you, nice gesture Danziger.

Right? I love flying the old WW1 birds in flying circus. The only one I dont have is the U2 and it looks like a joy. Plus it pops up in multiplayer enough that it would fun to do some online stealth missions with it. lol

I tried the U2 vs Bristol. The Bristol is a better performer, so other WW1 panes must be too. However the U2 has far more destructive powers.

The U2 needs a little engine turbo add-on IMO. I bought it last year but never really use it as battle machine.

It's a fun/challenging aircraft to fly, but, unless you use it for anything beyond sightseeing in single player, you absolutely have to have missions that are totally crafted around it, and it's capabilities, which are few, and it's vulnerabilities, which are many.

Interesting... any particular severs you've noticed it on?  That would be cool, if not time-consuming.
