Lolrawr Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Hello fellow virtual pilots, As the title states i'm undecided on what to pick up with the 50% and 75% discounts. I'm a newbie to flight sims, i did pick up BoS quite some time ago but didn't invest much time in it back then, but lately i've started enjoying the game more and more as i start to grasp all the components of the sim. I do own BoS and BoK standard and i was thinking on picking up BoBP but i don't remember seeing BoBP match on WoL where i play, so i don't know about that. My biggest dilema is if to buy BoM or 1 collectors plane (with the 75% discount), and if its a plane, which one? I did put my eyes on the Spit V, La-5 (both of them), Yak 1b and i can get only 1 now since money is really tight atm unfortunately. Wich one would you guys recommend? - I mostly fly Allied since i find them easier for a noob. - And do you think BoBP is worth considering since i only play online (single player bores me) on WoL? 6FG_Big_Al Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Hi man, if you only play WoL BobP is probably not the best choice since they don't have that much Western Front scenarios. Combat Box for example mostly runs late war scenarios with BobP planes (i think there is one with russian planes). Bodenplatte is still a great choice And the collectors are also quite good. In the worst case you have to wait for the next sale for the others ? 1 1
Avimimus Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I'd go for BoM & the Hs-129 or U-2VS as the collector plane... but as you can see, my tastes aren't exactly aimed at high performance fighters... and while I'd say that the 'high performance Mig-3' is a major reason to get BoM... it is easily outflown by many aircraft in the BoK and BoBP planesets. 1

Flies like on rails, features an outstanding all round visibility (with glass back armor) with bubble top canopy. 1 on 1 nothing beats it below 4km alt in 1943. However, it has limited air to ground ordnance (2 light bombs, no rockets), limited firepower (one 20mm and one .50 cal UBS), and limited ammo duration (mere 120 shells for 20mm and 200 bullets for MG). Spitfire MkV offers no air to ground weaponry at all, and offers similarly limited ammo duration as a Yak (60 shells per cannon for a total of 120, 300 rpgs for peashooters). It's low level performance will leave you in the dust more than often, however it provides an excellent dogfighting capabilities and good altitude performance. La-5 gives you two ShVAK cannons in the nose with 170 shells per cannon (The best combo of firepower + ammo duration). It also features an air cooled radial which should make you more survivable due to no risk of coolant leak. With an F subversion (included) you get unlimited boost time. However, it doesn't fly nearly as smooth as a Yak or Spit in tight turns. Similarly to Yak, it offers you two light bombs (100 kg max) for ground attack. 2

Premium is worth it just for the P-40, which remains worthwhile into 1943 imo. Collector plane I'd go 109 G-6 if you fly any blue. That plane is good into 1945. LA-5FN if red - Limited availability on WoL, but always first choice when it is. 1

Great to see how the game evolved Having bought BoBp and really enjoying the western setting (especially the missions on CombatBox Server). In addition I`m flying on the WoL server as well. I`m now thinking about getting BoK because of its A20 that can also be used for allied bombing in BoPp (as long as we can not fly B25s...) But then on the other hand I read that BoM is a must buy if flying on WoL server frequently because of the setup/missions used. Hence I`m stuck btw. additional toy for BoBp or new toys for eastern front. TL:DR: Any recommendations which one would you would get out of these two (BoK or BoM)?
VampireNZ Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 @niki_belucci I am in same boat, just getting back into il-2. I would go with BoK as the map is super nice with plenty of water and some nice aircraft. The A-20 is fun and has a scripted campaign available for purchase. I am also a big Spitfire fan so the Mk.Vb was a nice addition if you get the Prem edition. I can't speak for the BoM version as none of the a/c really interest me too much but will prob get it at some point.

They are both great, however BoK offers more in terms of scenario and planeset diversity. But as I love the Mig-3 so much BoM is also very valuable to me. If you want the A20, definitely go with BoK.

Get the Ju52 now, it's a fun plane ... or better, the whole BoM, BoPP, BoS caboose and the collector planes you don't have; i paid a lot more.
