German Gun Sight Help

After all this time I have huge issues trying to use the German gun sights.  They are often pale to the point of being barely visible.  It feels like they float around and really do not correspond to where the bullets are actually going to go.  Sometimes I see doubles floating around.

I am using VR.  I have tried closing one eye (betting that real German pilots did not close one eye).  Tried moving my head around to get settled in the proper place.  By the time I get a good look through the sight the target is gone or,  for ground attacks, I am planted in the ground.

Oddly enough I can bring down enemy aircraft pretty effectively.  I do it by getting within 150 yards  and using tracers.  Even with different ballistics at point blank range it doesn't matter too much.  Still, learning to use the sight would be nice.

BTW: I know this topic has been discussed.  I simply have not found the answers.  My problem is not how to use the sight my problem is how do I look through the sight.

I use @c6_lefuneste 3Dmitogo mod to adjust the gunsight brightness. You can also change the color in the user settings to your own preference. I use the key option to change the brightness, it’s sort of like having a dimmer switch, which is great for different day times and night. Also I made the sight a little more orange.

With my VR headset I have to wobble around a little until I see the revi clear :)

I adjust the headset placing while closing the left eye until I see it clear and adjust my headposition that whenI'm sitting relaxed my right eye looks exactly through the revi and my left doesn't.

And on how to aim with it Requiem made a good video tutorial.

I usually fly the 109 so the sight is offset to the right of the cockpit. If I align myself centrally in VR it puts me in perfect position to look through the sight with my right eye, and no need to close my left. It's the allied planes with the centrally mounted sight where I have issues in VR, mainly that the sight gets doubled as you mentioned. For that I think 3Dmitogo is the only real solution.

I recently converted to VR (still in the process of converting, I think!) and found the same thing.  Two things really helped:

Luftense's 3Dmigoto mod with certain presets - I added the presets for the HP Reverb to a folder for Luftenses' 3Dmigoto mod I set up for JSGME and it was super simple.  I swaps them in and out depending if I want to fly VR for fun or 2D for testing missions I'm working on.  It really brightens up the gunsight.:

(I have no idea why the movie clip of what seems to be Humphrey Bogart's mouth shows up in the link...maybe someday I will understand this)...

The next thing I learned is not to look at the gunsight directly.  Track the target and look "through" it and whatever eye is lined up the best, the gunsight will show up in and particularly when you have a correct firing solution.   It took some practice but now it's starting to become second nature.

you can no more change the colour. I removed that feature some version ago, only the brightness can now be changed.

Ah I see. I have version 18. Must be a placebo effect. I swear I thought I change the color on the latest version  Oh well I’ve been using your mod since the start. Thanks lefuneste

This is how I do it, also in VR. Track the target with my gaze centered on them, then adjust my head position and/or maneuver the aircraft to bring the gunsight around the target...hard to explain, but quickly becomes intuitive and have no trouble aiming once you do.

Well, in VR I think it's all about head positioning. On single-engine LW fighters the sight is offset to the right, which means you're supposed to focus on the sight with your right eye. If you're having problems with that, you may wanna try to move your head to the right so that you can focus on the sight using your left eye.

On the Me110, the sight is positioned to the center, so you have to move your head, either to the left or right.
