Gambit21 Posted July 20, 2022 Posted July 20, 2022 With Don Barnes Thunderbolts of the Hell Hawks offering to send me renderings for skins, how can I refuse? 4
dburne Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 I am looking forward to the George AI Improvements for the Apache. Just got patch installed so will try out shortly. 1
DBFlyguy Posted July 22, 2022 Posted July 22, 2022 Tons of updates for a lot of modules! Oddly, one I'm most pleased about...gun sparks ? I'm holding off on the Mirage F1 ...waiting for the Mudhen which hopefully isn't too far off 2
dburne Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Apache got some nice updates, one I am fond of is the new IFF targeting system for George AI.
AndyJWest Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Nobody bought the Mirage F1 yet? I'm currently engaged in a monumental mental fist-fight with myself over whether I should get it, and it would be a lot easier for Mr No to win if someone were to tell me it is a buggy piece of poop. Or to tell me that it is too good for mere mortals to fly, and that I should stick to making holes in the ground (and occasionally in the sea) with the Harrier...

I didn't watch it so I cannot say more.

I got it last evening, but my controllers are still in a box somewhere, so i can't tell you how it flies. I did stared it out without controllers just to see it and I like what I'm seeing. Even from the little flying I did with the arrow keys, ? I can tell it's gonna be interesting. The skins are cool but still work in progress, the cockpit is that classic, busy, late cold war. I can't wait to try it for real. Edited July 23, 2022 by Jaws2002 1 1
Gambit21 Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 I have no particular affinity for the aircraft (thus didn’t test it) but I love that it’s here because I just like watching the world grow richer with content. I think you guys are going to have some good fun with this thing.
Lusekofte Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 This is one of the jets in that era that should be a must have. What a legacy. But to me it is one more of those I really like to use but won't Like the F 5 I really like but do not use And the A4 I would like to use but don't Not to mention the Mirage F 2000 and the Swedish wonder. All I have and do not use. I wish I never entered the world of DCS ? 2
Jaws2002 Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 (edited) The Mirage F1 has a very impressive history, being involved in a bunch of wars, in many areas of the planet. It fought against most of the cold war planes, on both sides. Respect! Edited July 24, 2022 by Jaws2002
Gambit21 Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 Mirage III would have been better. ? Nah I like that they did the F1 - lots of different scenarios like you said. Great choice Mirage III ? 1
DBFlyguy Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 (edited) Very cool seeing "Mooch" doing DCS vids now, just hoping and praying the "weirdo crowd" don't go full "Ackchyually" on him and make him decide not do them anymore, this was really interesting to watch especially with his background: Edited July 24, 2022 by DBFlyguy 1 1
kestrel79 Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Does the F-18 really spark like that when you fire the gun? It must, never seen real video of that cool. I'll check that out.

I'll check that out. All rifled guns, shooting jacketed bullets do that. The sparks are very small flakes of metal jacket, that are glowing when they get too hot from friction. I don't think the effect is so constant, and not sure if it's so visible during the day. Edited July 27, 2022 by Jaws2002
dburne Posted July 27, 2022 Posted July 27, 2022 Yeah most of my flying is daytime with the occasional night missions in some campaigns. Can't say I have really noticed the sparks but will try to pay closer attention next time.
Jaws2002 Posted July 28, 2022 Posted July 28, 2022 Not as sexy as Mirage 2000, it's a lot more hands on plane to fly. ? Bombing with this one is either blind guess, or hard math. ?

That’s how it should be. We all know computers can put bombs on a target and fly planes well - YAWN. Great for real life when you can really die and or you need other things to really die. Bad for satisfying computer sim time - at least from where I sit. 1 4

Why I shelved the AH 64 and A 10, simply too much to take in for not my type of fun
Bremspropeller Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Looks like Luse might be able to play on home turf in the future: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/304804-official-news-2022/page/2/#comment-5017686 3
Gambit21 Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Aye...the 3rd party devs are discussing it now. A few campaigns in the works already. Not my thing, but still nice to see the continued expansion. I'd like to see a Battle of the Bulge map, and a P-38...and a Typhoon. 1
DBFlyguy Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Orbx does good work, always been a fan of them and bought tons of their scenery going back to the FS2004 days till now. This map will be nice addition and should get lots of use.

Lusekofte Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Well, if made well that map would be the finest map flying tachtical
ROCKET_KNUT Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 And it desperately needs more animals, like Badgers, Backfires and Bears. ? 1
Lusekofte Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 (edited) I had a doctor that shot himself , but before he did he had noticed a sound in my Hart, no other doctor ever heard again. But it stuck. I could not apply to the airforce. I probably would have been washed out as a pilot like 95 % of those applying do. But if not I would have flown F5 in that environment Edited July 29, 2022 by LuseKofte
DBFlyguy Posted July 29, 2022 Posted July 29, 2022 Wow! It's a nice sized map with a lot of cold war and modern day scenario possibilities: The recent Falklands map didn't do anything for me personally but I'll definitely jump on this one!

Yalu crossings just for the hell of it..... 1

We're discussing scenarios right now. You have to start making stuff up to a pretty large degree to get say, U.S. F-4's on the ground. Navy is easy of course. Someone just mentioned Norwegian F-16's...not my thing of course. BTW...Hell Hawks coming to DCS. Working out skins as we speak. I just wish I knew which airfields in England are coming with the expansion - sticking with missions from A-7 for the moment. Edited July 29, 2022 by Gambit21 2

Gambit21 Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 (edited) First skin...WIP. Skinning DCS is a whole other animal. Reflected was kind enough to do me up a 365th, June 44 base, and Don with the nose art. Putting it together is still not simple - figuring out the roughmet texture etc. I have a background is 3D modeling and texture painting, and it's still taking me a minute to get a handle on the process here. Need invasion stripes still. Edited July 30, 2022 by Gambit21 9 2
Bremspropeller Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 @DD_fruitbat Kev, have you spent some time with the french Mademoiselle yet? I'd love to fly her, but Murphy decided to wipe his ugly ar$e in my face and killed my DCS HD just when I was going to try the F1 for the first time. I guess I'll have to wait for another couple of weeks 'till my new rig is ready. FFS. @Gambit21 looking very cool! The new map will be an interesting bar for Razbam, as their SA map generally has the sam features (and then some), so they'll have to work hard to not look bad when compared with ORBX. Still hoping for a Vietnam and "Southern Africa" map. Honestly, the only thing exciting me for the scandinavian map is the remote hope we'll some day see more redair aircraft to crowd up the VVS or PVO bases.

I have worked out I can still fly the Viper (and probably the Hornet) as once your in the air the fly by wire stuff mostly takes care of the rudder, although taxing, take offs and landings are interesting, using the twist stick as the rudder on a spare joystick I use as a button bay!!!! Anything which needs a proper rudder no go at the moment...... That sucks about your HD? Edited July 30, 2022 by DD_fruitbat
