I'm an experienced dabbler in the old IL2 1946 mission editing swamp, America's Ace of Aces - World War Three 1946 etc.

I watched a few videos and made a simple mission for the P-38 (favorite plane). WTF, are you kidding me! This editor is nuts.

Is there an Easy Button? Some way around all this busy work of buttons and timers? Some kind of simplified template?

Check the "Groups Sharing Corner" thread on this forum section. There are ready made groups you can import to your missions.

It's some beast to ride, but i am really impressed that once you (in my case begin) to understand it, the possibilities are very impressive ..

This FMB is like a musical instrument, as learning to playing a violin.

And then once started, you really need to find out about this fiddling style's specialties, as the bowing needs a different technique than f.i. excel does.

Takes IMO quite a while to master it.

I just found out that working in groups is a must, and next week i might find yet another trick making life easier.

This time how to add MCUs to an existing group.

And the there seems to be the occasional bug you will need a workaround for. Even more fun?

Thank you jollyjack   for trying to make it sound like fun, but I'm sorry, It's not fun. It's frustrating and wastes huge amounts of time compared to IL2 1946 FMB. I've given up after watching my 5th tutorial video. Why would you design something that needs multiple tutorial videos to do what should be very simple things?!?!?

There should be an Easy Button for planning missions and campaigns. Everyone doesn't have days or weeks to learn to play the violin when all you want is some music. There should be the equivalent of a kazoo or a radio you can turn on.

Thank you LLv34_Temuri for the suggestion, but I want to make my own missions, campaigns and careers.

I'll just have to wait  and hope for an easy button.

Try these items under "Missions and Campaigns" in the IL-2 Resources post:

Also, see "Mission Editor and Multiplayer Server Guides" in the resources post.

The easy button is the QMB. Set up a mission with the features you want, including map, weather, opponents, ground activity, etc.

Then under data/missions open the _gen file in the ME. Save it as a single mission and move things around as you like. Most of your work is done in like 5 minutes.

Have you ever tried Unreal Tournament 99 and/or Half-Life 1 editor? ?

No, but I do know how to use the IL2 ME. If you want sympathy on the learning curve, I'm not the guy. It took me at least 6 months of effort and I'm still figuring out new stuff on a regular basis.

So that people could do complicated mission logic without a scripting language.

Edit: and the groups sharing corner is the easy button: ready made logic that you can then tweak (change object types etc.).

Unfortunately I am not in the console world. I have always been with PC. Never had any console, maybe over there life is easier.

Ok, I guess I didn’t realize because I don’t know if those are harder or easier to get a grip on

An Easy button would just result in thousands of similar missions all built along the same boring template. I'd rather paint freely than color by the numbers.

It actually very good. You have remakes in Dreams to games such as Mario, Fallout4, etc.

I'd trade the current doodleware for LUA scripting in a heartbeat. I know programming isn't for everyone, but it would make me way more productive and I could do some crazy cool logic with a real programming language.

I'd trade it too, but not having scripting language seems to be the reason for the "visual scripting" we have using the logic building blocks in the ME.

Either one works, you just have to figure out how to bend it to your will. I don’t think scripting would be any faster, you would still have to test it the same way.
