Pfalz D.IIIa of Rudolf Matthaei, Jasta 46

Rudolf Matthaei became the commanding officer of Jasta 46 in December 1917. Matthaei may have preferred the Paflz over the Albatros D.V although during a mock dofight in April 1918, he spun in and crashed. While the exact markings are unkown, there is a possibility that it was black and white chevrons near the cockpit similar to those seen on some other Jasta 46 and Jasta 5 albatrosses.

Pfalz D.IIIa of Hans Lutteroth, Jasta 7.

Ltn. Lutteroth flew his Pfalz with Jasta 7 in the early half of 1918. He died in a crash while test-flying this machine on April 6, 1918.

The crosses on his machine were partially repainted when he crashed this machine.

AWESOME historical example of this! I knew that the Germans 'painted over' the old crosses with the newer style, but I'd never seen an example of one mid-paint until now!

Sure! I'm planning on releasing a bunch more skins in the future, so feel free to include those in later packs.

Pfalz D.IIIa Standard skins of Jasta 79b

When a new pilot arrived at Jasta 79b, their aiplane had a white square painted on the side. The pilot was then allowed to pencil in a design of their choice (initials were very common) and have it be their personal emblem.

Here is the balkenkreuz version:

Pfalz D.IIIa 8181/17

There is only one black and white photo of this machine, and no unit details are known for this pfalz. I am confident the stripes are black, but the color of the chevrons and diamond pattern are a guess on my part.

I like your 5 colour lozenge. Is that taken from the CLII?

The nose design surely must be white and blue - the diamond are painted in the very distinctive Bavarian style:

I'm fairly certain they're not white and blue. Based on the photo in the reference book (which the publisher wont let me post here, annoyingly) the squares are darker colors

Pfalz D.IIIa 8107/17 of Jasta 80b, flown by Uffz. Schneider

A very simple skin although the exact colors of the crest are a mystery. There is a good chance it was blue and red, similar to the crest of Uffz. Schneiders hometown of Dorfen-Erding in Bavaria.
