As far as I know, they can't do that. They can have deciduous trees only or conifers trees only or mixed on the whole map, There's only one forest type, they can't have forests of different kind.

 

I know it is very hard (if not impossible) to create a natural looking enviroment. I would recoment to delete all trees next to the streets. It may be a bit empty, but more natural looikng.

 

go more like this: more bushes, gras and less individual trees

Do you have historical photos of the Velikiye Luki area to support this?

All these notes are correct and evident, but I can`t write my own game :) I try to add the small details and decoration that can be created with current game-engine.

nature is chaos. human brain simply can't recreate chaos. If you click trees to a location the problem is: you will always follow a pattern. For a natural look you would need an insane amount of details and pure chaos. Look at parks, palace gardens and so on: plants, flowers and trees placed by human always look artificial.

You can cover the pattern a bit with massive details, thousends of bushes and so on. But impossible to do as a single person and the game engine -> you see the pattern which makes it unnatural

 

 

pls don't get me wrong, I want to help, not whine about your work!

When you take a close look to the image belowe of area close to Velikye Luki trainstation you can see a lot of trees lined up along streets.

Further away from trainstation there seem to be no trees but that is hard to discern I would say.

But in case you mean with 'streets' roads into open fields then again there seem to be less to no trees.

I had a look at the vegetation over there in Google Earth. The difference in vegetation seems to me typical of what you'll find where I live too, where confers growing where the trees are rarely felled (they take a while to mature), while the faster growing leafy trees (mostly birch, ash and alder) shooting up wherever land is left fallow. Here's a screen-shot showing late autumn or early spring. The pines (I think it is) grows along the railway, the naked leafy trees grow everywhere else:

Getting interesting now. :)

But I see objects, woods and roads are still in winterversion.

Also still ice on rivers.

Would be a challenge I guess to get animated waters.

With rivers and the Channel front map from RoF I think the assets needed for water are available in DN engine

 

Thanks for the hard work Zues and team..latest updates to Velikie Luki map looking great, but I think you made a mistake showing that non winter shot :biggrin: be prepared for a lot of interest LoL :cool:

With rivers and the Channel front map from RoF I think the assets needed for water are available in DN engine

 

DN engine has both 2D and animated 3D water.

So far, on RoF maps, the 3D animated water has only be used for the sea.

But is that the "citadel" in the background? (This was the site, I think, of a "last stand" of sorts by the German garrison, some of whom finally managed to break out and make it back to their own lines.)

Lovely video! I love how it's easy to pick out the railway lines in the distance. The video also gives a good impression of the huge size of this map!

 

Zeus, it must be a great feeling to fly in such a landscape and think that you and your group have created it all! Once again, thank you for all the hard work!
