Comes Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Looks so beautiful!! Awesome news today, and DD100 is also coming
1CGS zeus-- Posted June 19, 2015 1CGS Posted June 19, 2015 Are the textures in the screenshots posted in the link above still wip? Even not WIP. I used it just for testing heightmap. 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Another area where the P 40 can be used. Well done.
Dakpilot Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Great news, with the potentially also great news of PWCG for BoS coming, summer maps for Stalingrad, Velkie, and BoM, now Murmansk and an increased planeset (BoM) things are looking very very positive Thanks Zeus and the team Cheers Dakpilot
kestrel79 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Wow the hills and mountains look great. Good to know the BoS engine can do these kinda maps so well. We've seen pretty flat stuff only so far I like it.
Sim Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Interesting theater of operations with lots of lend-lease aircraft potential. But would it be possible to extend the map up north to cover more of the Barents sea area for long-range naval missions/operations? And I hope that the devs of this map will get a chance to use/enable the RoF sea/channel map tech somehow.
1CGS zeus-- Posted June 19, 2015 1CGS Posted June 19, 2015 get a chance to use/enable the RoF sea/channel map tech somehow If most of other works on this project is done, than sea tech from ROF probably would be added to II2-series. And if anyone can help - you are more than welcome! Guys need your help - please share any WW2 photos of cities such as Kirkenes, Vadso, Severomorsk, Zapolyarniy, Pechenega, etc.
Juri_JS Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 And if anyone can help - you are more than welcome! Guys need your help - please share any WW2 photos of cities such as Kirkenes, Vadso, Severomorsk, Zapolyarniy, Pechenega, etc. Maybe you should contact Mixx at SAS1946. His map of the Murmansk area for Il-1946 is very detailed and I know that he had collected a lot of information when he build it.

6./ZG26_Emil Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I am more excited about a Murmansk map than BOM, I still can't believe we might get this. I hope we get some ships to bomb and eventually the P39 and Hurricane 1
Freycinet Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Good choice of map and should be manageable to make since there are very few towns and villages and the landscape is, in general, quite barren. Good dogfight maps that draw very little on system resources could be made from a Murmansk map as well. Would be nice if it encompassed at least one historical Luftwaffe field in Northern Norway.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Kirkene is within that square by the looks of it, it was used by JG5 during some periods.
Feathered_IV Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Murmansk City WIP: http://forum.il2sturmovik.ru/topic/3109-murmansk-rabota-nad-kartoj/?p=307052 Thats an outstanding bit of monatge work.
Pinball Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I can see that airport Vardo / Svartnes barely not being included in the new map. (Upper middle of the new Murmansk map). Too bad. It was admittedly a field airport before the war, but it was not taken proper use of JG5 before autumn 1943. And even then it was not very big. It would have been fun to take off a runway with a Bf109 and protect shipping from IL-2 and A-20 (hopeful). Please don`t take this as a criticism, because I like everyone else is exited that we will get a brand new Murmansk map; but you all know the old saying. Much wants more.
Juri_JS Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Maybe these two documents with descriptions of Luftwaffe airfields in Norway and Finland will be useful for the Murmansk map project. There are no pictures, but information on the dimensions and surface of the runways and the airfield infrastructure. http://www.ww2.dk/Airfields%20-%20Finland.pdf http://www.ww2.dk/Airfields%20-%20Norway.pdf 1
IRRE_Belmont Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) tfw Zeus (an his team) maps looks better than most official maps (i mean Stalingrad by that, but also other sim's map, like CLOD) Keep up the good work, you're an invaluable asset to this community Edited June 23, 2015 by SYN_Belmont

Senilix Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) The Murmansk map will be exiting for me. I made service in the Norwegian army at the time USSR went into Afghanistan, so I knew the area on the Norwegian side well (I live in the other end of Norway). I've been almost all over the Norwegian side of this map - by foot/skee and by "Volvo feltvogn" (Volvo Jeep) and "Bandvogn" (Belt driven wagon). I remember a survival exercise in Pasvik - The Norway - Russian borderline - we were carrying "bear-shot's" to protect ourselves if we were attacked by them. I will be exited to fly over it again ;-) Edited July 29, 2015 by Senilix 1
PA-Sniv Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) Some update of the Murmansk map found on the russian forum : Looks good! Cheers, Edited August 19, 2015 by PA-Sniv
Blooddawn1942 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I want to fly through that arc! Looks as if You're making good progress. Once this is done, we've got to convince the devs to create us a Hurricane for this map.
PA-Sniv Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I'm not part of the Murmansk team, just put the screenies here! About the arch, abr confirmed we will be able to fly through it!
Nonolem Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 (edited) On French forum, maybe more understandable for most than Russian forum : http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/16881-nouvelle-map-murmansk/page-2 Edited August 19, 2015 by Nonolem
71st_AH_Hooves Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) What is a realistic plane set for Murmansk? Both axis and allies. Edited August 20, 2015 by [TWB]Hooves_McG
Feathered_IV Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Lots of things to be added there. There were more Handley Page Hampdens serving in Murmansk with the Royal Australian Air Force than there were MC.202s at Stalingrad for example.
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) Lots of things to be added there. There were more Handley Page Hampdens serving in Murmansk with the Royal Australian Air Force than there were MC.202s at Stalingrad for example. Now that would be cool! A lot of the almost 3 thousand Hurricanes the VVS received served there too. Seriously though, the Hurricane is a serious contender for a Murmansk map, having both a colourful story up North and serving in large numbers both with the Soviet airforce and the naval aviation. TP_Jacko Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I was reading that the VVS took out the small calibre machine guns and fitted some cannon so as long as it has that fitted as standard
TP_Jacko Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 (edited) I want to fly through that arc! Yes bridges and hangers are to easy it will probably be a mandatpry part of the Tangmere Pilots OTU induction flights Edited August 20, 2015 by TP_Jacko
