Brano Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 The Battle for Velikiye Luki was one of the Red Army's major winter counteroffensives of 1942-43. It's been overshadowed (obviously) by what happened at Stalingrad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_for_Velikiye_Luki It was not the battle of Velikyie Luki itself that was overshadowed (in fact this was quite small scale operation in terms of eastern front). It was part of large operation Mars - one that used as many (if not more) resources to execute than operation Uranus around Stalingrad. It was a bitter failure for russians and Zhukov.Thats why official history does not mention that too much.In fact, operation Mars is one of those forgotten battles that victors does not like to talk much about. I recommend this book by David Glantz: Zhukov's Greatest Defeat. The Red Army's Epic Disaster in Operation Mars, 1942 to read more about it.Beware, this is no beletry
FlatSpinMan Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Interesting link, Brano. I know so little about the Eastern Front. Think I'll get that book you mentioned.
Emil_Junus Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 (edited) ETA is third quarter, so expect to have the maps some time before Christmas. Yeah thats the reason. I hope zeus and his team are going to do their really good work faster than III/2015. Edited February 10, 2015 by Emil_Junus
Willy__ Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 Why something tells me that navigating throught Velikyie Luki will be harder than the area near the Volga ? I already see a lot of lost pilots haha. Nice map though!
1CGS zeus-- Posted February 26, 2015 1CGS Posted February 26, 2015 Hi all! Finally we finished the last 3D-object for map - Velikiye Luki`s locomotive repair factory: 10
Urra Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Hi all! Finally we finished the last 3D-object for map - Velikiye Luki`s locomotive repair factory: 33614293.jpg 33614541.jpg 33614461.jpg 33614371.jpg Very nice. Blown away.
steppenwolf Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Great layout! Nice indeed. My only critique is that some of the locomotive repair buildings don't look weathered or faded like the surrounding buildings. They seem to 'sit' on top of the map, versus blending in. Is this intentional?
1CGS zeus-- Posted February 26, 2015 1CGS Posted February 26, 2015 Is this intentional? No. The texture still in work and will be improved.
SYN_Ricky Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Looking great, like the rest of your work!
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 is this rail factory or repair facility going to be a template for other rails, added to the FME for adding to other maps?
1CGS LukeFF Posted February 27, 2015 1CGS Posted February 27, 2015 ^Umm...okay? And what's the point of posting that image?
1CGS LukeFF Posted February 27, 2015 1CGS Posted February 27, 2015 This: ? How about being a bit less cryptic and tell us exactly what you're trying to say?
71st_AH_Mastiff Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 summer textures from a dev screen shot.. 1

Jade_Monkey Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 GTFO! That looks so much nicer than I expected! So excited!
Blooddawn1942 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 This looks way better then I expected!!!! Great!!!!!
-=PHX=-Satch Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Photoshop or true? Please Zeus don't play games with our feelings Amazing job! I can't wait...
Freycinet Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 That screenie shows better than words that it will feel like a new sim when we get summer textures. Wauw.... I hope all the nice objects of the VL map can be used elsewhere too.
Rama Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Photoshop or true? Please Zeus don't play games with our feelings Amazing job! I can't wait... I allready posted this screenshot one week before there It's an early test. Zeus will not talk about.
johncage Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 looks alright. just a bit moot without proper campaign
Finkeren Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Summer textures look nice (and overall a great screenshot btw) I predict, that this will aid a lot in navigation, because we can now distinguish not only between forest, waterways and open land but also between cultivated and un-cultivated areas, perhaps even between large, even fields of collective farms and smaller ones? 1
No601_Swallow Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 I allready posted this screenshot one week before there It's an early test. Zeus will not talk about. I assumed this shot was photoshopped. Nicely done, but photoshopped. If this is from an ingame test, it's simply stunning. Can't be. Not even Zeus... Can't be...!!!
Veteran66 Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 i hope for more large area of flat unforested grassland in the Stalingrad region. Too much fields in a less farmer region.
A-E-Hartmann Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 First "green" test by Zeus: Seen on russian forum: http://forum.il2sturmovik.ru/topic/491-velikie-luki-rabota-nad-kartoj/?p=272010 Really impressive. Excellent .
Rama Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 i hope for more large area of flat unforested grassland in the Stalingrad region. Too much fields in a less farmer region. Better don't try to read too much in this test screenshot. The final texture/rendering will probably be very different.
