CCG_Pips Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 (edited) 1945 - IWO JIMA was the base of fighters escorting B-29 Superfortress over japan. They were known as "VERY LONG RANGE ESCORTS MUSTANGS" of course, the template is made by @IDCP ............A BIG THANK TO HIM and DEV'S TEAM The pack is intended to be used on next (future) ???? Pacific theatre map (s) I do it because of the High colors and very nice "Nose art" worn on the US Fighters at the time. 506th FIGHTER GROUP will be presented in the pack.......(but also 15th and 21st Fighter group planes) Between April 7 to August 14 1945, P-51D pilots of the USAAF's 7th Fighter Command - 15th - 21st and 506th Fighter Groups - flew 51 very long range missions from Iwo Jima to mainland Japan, including nine that were aborted due to bad weather. Used initially to provide fighter cover for B-29 bombing Tokyo and other Japanese cities, the VLR P-51's enjoyed such success that they soon were called to make low-level attacks against ground targets as well. In the course of those missions, which averaged more than eight hours duration, the VLR pilots scored 234 confirmed aerial victories, plus another 219 Japanese aircraft destroyed on the ground. 1st plane .......> N°615 - "DINNY B" - 462th FS - 506th FG - plane shared by Lieutenant John Dinny & Jimmy J. Grant *** Special Thank to @9./JG27golani79 ? Edited November 4, 2019 by CCG_Pips 21 1 1

You could use an UV checker map to find the specific part of the texture. Something like this: https://github.com/Arahnoid/UVChecker-map/blob/master/UVCheckerMap01.psd
CCG_Pips Posted November 3, 2019 Author Posted November 3, 2019 (edited) Thanks for your reply..........In fact, I found (I believe) the spine antenna but it can't be painted !!!!? Seems (I'm not sure) that color of camouflage is directly applied on spine antenna color ....this is the problem I try to solve..? Edited November 3, 2019 by CCG_Pips

CCG_Pips Posted November 4, 2019 Author Posted November 4, 2019 (edited) 2nd plane ready ......................> N° 527 - "HEL-ETER" - 457th FS / 506th FG - Plane shared by Lieutenant John Winnen & Phil Alston The tail green color is reported by crew as a Dark Apple green..........It is now correct and has been changed, repertory color number ANA503 (Willow Green) !!! As a lot of Skinners, I use profiles or books and even decal sheets to make skins....sometimes, documents are not reliable or have various version of same plane. that's what happened with this skin and after looking to new documents, I decided to correct a lot my skin...............I also correctd the Tail color and make a more accurate color (as per above photo and profile) Last point, I had to manage the "bunny" nose art due to the Flares hole present on the plane template...unfortunately the flares holes is comming directly on the center head of the "Bunny" ........sorry Bunny !!!!? Let's go with new and "final version" of the skin........................> Your opinion is welcome !! * hope @Thunderboltz will appreciate !!!!!!!!!!!!!! See you next ? Poochnboo Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 This is a part of the Second World War air war that I'm especially interested in. Quite a bit of my aviation library has to do with the air campaign against the Japanese home islands in the last months of WW2. Most people aren't even aware that a bombing campaign against Japan took place. They know about Hiroshima, and that's about it. But they are surprised to hear about VLR missions, and that Mustangs operated over Japan. P-47's too, of course. The long range "N" models. I'd, LOVE to see it done as an IL-2 module. I know it won't be, but I'd love it. 3

Well, I am still optimistic, may be not with next opus but in the future ..............? You are right, about the end ( if not whole) of operations on Pacific theatre!!! They know, more or less, European theatre, North African theatre and that's all............? 1

Art-J Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 What's the story behind smaller fuselage insignia on No. 300? Just asking as I thought these were factory painted using standard size stencils and thus should be the same on all Mustangs.

Seems, both US Stars size was seen on Iwo Jima and even on all Theatre of operations........> N° 300......> On my first skin, size of US Star on fuselage was wrong........> Please see this other plane: (courtesy @Duggy who provided about 100 pictures of Iwo Jima fighters and bombers) Making skin is pushing us to have a look on all details ....? and tells us that nothing was standard in reality?
Swing Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 Merci beaucoup Pips, ces P51 sont justes splendides... 1
CCG_Pips Posted November 30, 2019 Author Posted November 30, 2019 (edited) Next volume starting (even if we does not have chance to see Pacific theatre coming soon?) Upgraded Skin version : - On this one, corrected (again) size of US Stars on fuselage...it is not a large correction but enough to change a lot general overview. - Also, corrected position of US Star on upper wing (This correction must be done on ALL P-51D). - Corrected aluminium transition on parts of the template. - Corrected light reflexion on control surface (Fabric made with dopped aluminium paint) N° 600 - "TALLAHASSEE LASSY" - Plane shared between Major Tom De Barnette CO. of 462th FS and Lieutnant Colonel Harley Brown Deputy CO. of 506th FG the middle plane on the picture, seen from right side...
