Here's two vids showing winter grey sky in the morning and the other is winter overcast. I've redone all the lighting and sky domes. Also adding more.

@rowdyb00t These giant clouds are simply fantastic. Too bad they are not VR friendly ... is there any possibility in the future of a "light" version for us VRs?

Best clouds I've ever seen in every flight simulator

I wish I could get rid completely of the " boiling effect" and those cloud edges....

Well I’m hoping that Deferred Shading will lighten the GPU load. We shall see :)

As for a lighter load version, I have one posted on the OP and am working on version 9.1 revised 2.

I used to have these 'samba clouds' for a long time.

Since I installed and enabled the Graphic Presets no more wobbly, dancing, boiling 'samba clouds'.

Did a test with Graphic Presets enabled and disabled under different weather settings and these Presets made the difference.

I use version 11.1 by the way.

Anyone who would like to have GIANT clouds here you go. I don't recommend these in VR though, Frame killer  I added these to the Heavy Clouds ( 03_heavy_00, 02, 04 ). Just drop in MODS folder and have a go. The last two pics the clouds are 31,000ft.

I spelled airfield wrong

That is some quality white n' fluffy!

Opened up a QMB mission, looked good, decided to change planes and in the next QMB mission it had me right at the edge of a front; 90% clear on one side and clouds like the Alps on the other.

Very, very nice! :drinks:

I have this, already, but it doesen't make any difference

I believe what @Avyx is seeing would be where some of the cloud layers thin out and become more transparent.  There is a twitch or “boil” from how the clouds are drawn in the game. Hopefully DS will fix this, I have already been working on some of these transparent areas in the next version 12 with some results.

I didn't know, IL 2 will get DS

To the honest, I didn't play much IL 2 in the last time, just because of the awful default clouds

And when should we expect DS  ?

Yes, you right, rowdyb00t

Are you sure it is installed correctly? It really did make a difference that was quite noticeable to me and going by comments I think most of users of Rowdyboot's cloud mod. So if you saw no difference at all between not having the gpresets.cfg tweaks and having them it would make me think it is not installed correctly.

I tried with and without JSGME

I can't see a difference

Does it matter if I'm using the IL 2, Steam version  ?

By the way : I'd like to uninstall and reinstall the game.

Inside the Steam folder is another small folder ( something like... 775346 ) with some IL 2 files

Can't remember exactly where the location of this folder is. I want to remove it, before I install the game, again

Does anyone know  ?

Thank you

I use the steam version. Your file location should be Program File (86)/Steam/steam apps /common/il2sturmovik. Can you post your file location?

I've d/l'd the graphic preset, the grey11.1 and now the cumulonimbus.  I never had a problem with the first two but when using the cumulonimbus I get a missing file when I try to save.  It is the graphics/SKY/Summer/Light2.bmp                      My question is this - should I have both the grey 11.1 and the cumulonimbus activated via jsgme at the same time?

I do and it looks fine to me.

Yep same. The cumulonimbus files rowdyboot posted a day or so back sit on top of v11.1. I liked them a lot so I ended up merging the two so I now have just a single jsgme entry

I'm not talking about the folder location where the game is installed

Somewhere is another small folder with some IL 2 files, inside the Steam main folder

steam\userdata\your steam id ??

and then within that folder I think I remember there being a separate folder for each app with it's own id.

That’s odd. I don’t have that

Something like that

The big new clouds look grea, just tested them in QMB!

And the other issues I mentioned earlier some time ago are gone too (jagged edges). Maybe an update thing from the game that got patched and/or I tweaked them out by chanding gfx card/game settings. All good now.

This is caused when enlarging the size of the clouds. Possibly I could upscale the cloud maps however I believe it will hurt FPS.
Just squint your eyes when you fly close

So, it's visible ?

I thought that's color banding  / posterization ( hardware / software issue )

I'm not sure what you mean with

" upscale the cloud maps "

?

The clouds are tied to a folder in summer called cloud maps. In side of this each type of cloud is drawn on a 512x512 template. I have already redrawn and scaled them to 1024x1024 which increases the detail. So that’s why I’m thinking the ones for the large clouds may be upscaled and redrawn to 4096x4096. I’ve done this before but elected not to do this for frame rate purposes.

I would give it a try, even if I lose 15-20 fps...

Just curious

Thank you

I'm one of those 2K/no VR guys as my budget doesn't currently allow for it but even with that the current iteration I'm using (Clouds v11_greysky, Graphic Presets and Cumulonimbus}, give me a game that is SO much improved.  The way things are going with rowdy's hard work and the Devs adding Deferred Shading , by the time I get a 4K screen and VR most of the kinks will be worked out.  Plus I think that rowdy taking the time and effort to address current VR issues is tremendous.

If there is ever a Great Battles Hall of Fame rowdyb00t should be one of the first members IMO.

Very much liking the big new cumulonimbus clouds offered in that optional download as well! ? - looks great and only a very tiny impact in fps for me it appears (I am not a 4K'er or VR user).  Thanks for offering that rowdyb00t.

Sorry about the delay... the cumulonimbus clouds should be added to the mod. The stock game only has one skydome and one light.bmp

Those clouds look absolutely stunning

Amazing.

It's a pleasure just to fly through those clouds, without firing a single shot

Thank you so much, rowdyb00t

The boiling effect is almost completely gone

I'm impressed, really

I'm just speechless

4k textures. Again, performance not affected, at all ( I can't understand that )

" Boiling effect " almost completly gone. The clouds look incredible.

Thank you so much, rowdyb00t
