Constant radio chatter

Will this game at any point stop constantly telling me which aircraft I am currently attacking? This goes on and on and on and...., sometimes between two and five times per minute. This is so unbelievably annoying. Everyone, who wants to have such gamey features, can feel free to fly with Icons on (and surely does). I don't want the game to tell me where the enemy aircrafts are. If I don't see them myself, that's how it works IRL, too.

Try ground-pounding. You will constantly be told which target you are attacking long before it's possible to see them. I just ignore it and attack something else.

Happens all the time for me.  Has done since the day they released the voices.  It irritates so much that I stopped playing and haven't bought anything in nearly two years.

I’ve grown pretty tired of the screamy “HIER IST TYPHOON!” Dude on German radio.

Take your meds, homie.

I completely agree, it never ends and there is no option to remove it or mute it. We cannot even understand what they are saying as the audio for the voicing is so washed out.

I seem to be the only one who remembers to German guy yelling "Flood Control!" constantly in IL2 46.

Of course he was speaking German, and wasn't really saying "flood control", but that's what sounded like...it was constant and drove me nutballs.

Anyhow, we mustn’t talk about it.  The devs find this conversation repetitive and it spoils their experience.

Ironically the solution is probably more radio chatter, so you don’t hear the same things over and over the same way

its a pretty easy mod to create, Just need to make blank audio files. Would work on MP as well.

You still get the text repeating itself over and over again down the side of the screen.

I hope they do something one day.  I’d happily pay for it as premium content if it was necessary.

One would think that after enough years and tons of requests to change it. That it would be improved...

Agreed, it is well overdue being looked at in the cold light of day found outside of the arcade. I too would like to be able turn off this really annoying "feature", and indeed the whole radio show we are forced to endure.

How immersive is it to have the rear gunner whelping about your rough flying, when you are in a single seat fighter?

Equally how immersive is it to have a radio yelping in your ear in an aircraft that never had a radio fitted in it?

Anyone ever heard of radio silence? It was common practice during the war, but we don't even have access to the off button. Sure we can change channels and hear the enemy whelping but that's about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.

We already have "radio" if we want it in the shape of TS or the like and the chat window, which is constantly spammed with the "radio" feature.

I bet that all those sound files are fairly large all together and add to the loading time and chew up RAM & CPU resources too, which in turn could cause a stutter just when you don't want it. And from that angle alone, I think it should be optional.

The only positive side of the radio "feature" that I can identify is when the rear gunner tells you that an enemy fighter is about to attack you. And they could even change that to "look for a clear spot to crash land" given the survive-ability rate

Go into

Program Files (x86)\1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Moscow\data\Audio\radio

and remove the files GER and RUS and put them somewhere safe and hey presto!  No more radio nonsense.  Much better.  Remember that on each game update they will be reloaded too.

Sound (couldn't resist) :)

So this works with no side effects? Almost like adding or removing custom skins? What I mean is, will the game throw up some errors somewhere while looking for these radio sounds and possibly slow the loading process or is it just a case of when there is nothing to load it just skips on to the next thing?

No errors and no more absurd shouting.  Put the removed folders on your desktop or in a new folder to keep them available if you wish to have the radio calls back.

You will find, after each update, that the game will rebuild these files.

@DD_Arthur Beautiful, serene, perfect.... Radio Silence.

I have hated the "Radio" feature of this wonderful game with every fibre of my being - from the word go.

Thank you so much for this simple way to turn the useless, annoying, repetitive radio gibberish off. A total game changer for this old guy :)

With gratitude,

MDS1

S! and I'd like to echo the gratitude to DD_Arthur for this info.  I've always hated having Hans Gruber (my name for him) shouting orders at me,  Feels good to finally have yanked the headset plug from the socket and given him the virtual finger!!!!!

I like how we can be cruising along in a T34 listening to German aircraft radio, everything from airport ops to targeting.  First, the T34 would likely not have a radio to begin with, but second, what I would like to be able to do is yell constantly into my mic at them ... CONSTANTLY.  That would mess 'em up.

I'm sure they'll be here with Bodenplatte.

Might be possible to dupe that ENG folder twice and rename it to GER or RUS and have everybody speaking 'merican ?

does that get rid of the static sound while a voice plays?

I deleted specific sounds, like "I am on fire bailing out" "out of fuel"

I did that for the MP since it was driving me nuts. But the static was even more annoying.

No, the static is baked into the .ogg audio files themselves

Totally agree, the radio chatter is annoying as hell. Will try the sound file removal method, thanks for sharing!

After deleting/moving the radio sound files. I find that the fairly quiet static left in its place to hint at radio communication in use, is semi-realistic. If the radio is being used we hear a quiet static sound now instead of nonsensical shouting every ten seconds. So much more peaceful...

Reference the "static" noise left behind after deleting the radio sound files, it's not very noticeable at all. As Geronimo says, it doesn't "intrude" on the game in any way. I only notice it TBH, if I'm home alone - and flying with the volume set to "shake-the-walls" maximum. That's rare. ;)

(I do tend to set the in game volume higher.... now that the shouting has stopped.)

Oh yeah, the radio chatter, I did tune it out in my head lmao.

I´d be really thankfull if the information in the chatter would be easier to understand.

A random "I´m wounded" doesn´t tell me much tbh.

I removed the folders for actor 71 and several of the 50-numbered ones and all is decaffeinated on the eastern front.
I don't even notice the radio now, it's just ambience :)

Guys...

If its too much silence for you now, I´d highly recommend VVS & LW Ambient radios chatter  by @Feathered_IV  !!

His thread is from 2015 but the links on page 2 still working:

I think it´s one of the "must haves" as SP.

The English voice MOD works a treat im still using it, but when the English guy goes on a bit much about his thrush i just switch to speaker and drown all the crap out , just leaves the engine and guns, aah music to my ears.
