Lancaster model and references

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was once a dev on the original IL-2, I built the Pe-2 cockpit. After that I built a Lancaster MK. III in regular and dambuster config to IL-2FB spec.

It's currently up on TurboSquid, but I'm happy to provide the model for free, and include the references I gathered from visiting the MK. X in Ottawa to the dev team. At least the textures will surely need an update to modern spec, and it needs LODs and a damage model, but if it helps move IL2 forward I can help do that too.

Here is the TS listing

https://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/lancaster-iii-3d-model/513311

I also have a fully built radioman cabin for the Pe-2 that was never used in IL2FB. The gameplay value is.. Limited, but it's an interesting space. Would love to see it implemented.

Happy to discuss, if there is interest.

I live 20 minutes away from the Canadian Aviation & Space Museum in Ottawa. If ever this works out and any one needs someone close to scan more documents or materials just PM me, I would be more than happy to help.

Cheers?

I would definitely love to see what can be expanded upon or improved from this proposal.

Loki, you should send Jason a PM. I am not sure the devs still read this forum section regularly.

It would be better if its late B-17 model, didnt brits bomb only at night late in war, but even as AI only it would be good to have one 4 engine bomber.

Only 3 gunner position also look like it would not be more demanding for game then B-25 that is coming with BoBp as AI only.

@Loki_v2 although it has been stated many times that 4 Engine aircraft are not possible at this time with current game engine limitations - it really would be fantastic to have a Lancaster in the game at some point. A B-17 would be icing on the cake. I just wanted to say, as no-one important, just another average player type of guy - your offer of help is inspirational.

Thanks Buddy!

Kind Regards,

Other than a few rare daylight ops, my understanding is that British strategic bomber doctrine throughout the entire war was night time bombing. In a few special circumstances they conducted daylight raids, most commonly during the cross-channel raids in 41 to 42, conducted with light and medium bombers and fighter escort and occasionally during the Normandy campaign when air superiority was assured.

It's not a well known fact, but from late August 1944 to late April 1945 Bomber Command carried out a daylight bombing campaign with over 150 raids. The Lancaster was the most used aircraft type in these raids.

I stand corrected then!

Then they can go full steam ahead and make it AI only for start, and 262s have something to crash into at max speed ?

So Jason just think this model is unqualified and refuse to use it?

It's been explained 10 thousand times why they aren't building 4-engined bombers.
