@GVL224 Vitaly, can you recommend anything to reduce the "squeakiness" I experience when moving the throttle back and forth? I have to keep the friction fairly tight to keep it from accidentally moving, but then that causes a lot of friction and rubbing when I want to move it.

Interesting !!! Thanks for sharing LukeFF.

I have to hop onto this bandwagon. The squeakiness of the movement bothers me too.

Spit40, who generously designs the Authentikit free plan flightware, got away from this problem by using a pad of nitrile bonded with cork. I have yet to try this but maybe some one who's built gear can report? How does the pad hold up over time? Does the nitrile rubber degrade over time?

Other than this minor hiccup, Vitaly's gear is pretty much bullet proof and I'd invest with him all over again.

I have wondered about the use of something like a nylon washer

Seems de rigueur to have throttle on a lever with large handle at top having multiple buttons. A wheel and/or linear pots could be used just as well.

The first thing to check on the mechanics is the same tightening force of the felt washer bolts.
If the tightening force is the same, then you need to drop a drop of silicone grease on the felt.
One user of my mechanic did this and his unpleasant sounds disappeared.

@GVL224 Vitaly, Very Impressive!

Do you have a current price listing on your Throttle 'MvdM' and shipping to Australia?

Ok, thanks. It looks like tightening the bolts fixed the issue. ??

Vitaly, what was the 4th one you had on the table? I don not particularly like any of the hat buttons you showed.

Well this trim review is little late but I have had a very tough last two months. First, my Prayers go out to anyone dealing with covid or a family member fighting covid. The week that I received my Trim Panel from Vitaly is the same week that I found out my sister Marty was in the hospital and had been battling covid for over two weeks already. I picked up my Trim Unit on September 27th with a quick setup and trial that night. On September 28th things turned worse for my sister. My brother in law and myself were staying with her nonstop at the hospital now, and on September 29th my sister Martha Travillian passed away at 8:20pm. I was Blessed to be there with her, holding her hand and Praying for her when she passed. As you might imagine life has been a bit surreal for me and my family for a while now.  My sister was a Servant for Jesus Christ, she worked tirelessly to share the Gospel, and I know she is in Heaven Rejoicing as I write this, so there is no need for condolences or to feel sorry for my family.  I miss her deeply, but I rejoice in the memories I have of her through our lives together. I live for the day that I will pass on and see her again. So Vitaly, my apology is to you that it has taken so long to write this review. It certainly had nothing to do with my satisfaction with your product.

So here is my review summed up in one word, "AWESOME!"....nuff said!;)

Ok, well, maybe a little more does need to be said, so,..here goes.

Packaging: I think packaging reviews are stupid, but it should be known that Vitally does a good job of packaging his products and my Trim Panel arrived in good shape.  You could tell the package had been thrown around  a fair bit, but no damage was incurred by my unit. I certainly wondered about the 50 stamps covering the front of my package, but I guess in Ukraine, stamps will be sold and must cover the front of your package?

Overall looks: My Trim Panel has an all black main body with red buttons, safety cover switches and red balls on the Landing Gear and Flap levers. My Trim wheels are all grey. The overall look of the unit is just Fantastic. I am 110% satisfied with the way it looks and the white lettering of button numbers and axis labels are absolutely professional grade. Of course I am biased, but I think my Trim Panel looks the best out of any hardware I have seen that Vitaly has built.:P

Operation: I did calibrate my Trim Panel in Windows 10  before using it in any sim. It has been plug and play for me. All of the buttons are good quality, axis are very fine resolution and have a good feel and the three way center off switches are heavy duty.  I do like the feel of the flattened three way center off switches on the side of my Trim Unit better than the round skinny three way center off switches on the top of my unit. There is no complaint, I simple like the broader contact area when I actually grab the switch to move it forward or backward. The big trim wheel for the Elevator trim on the side of the unit is fabulous. The two other smaller, but still perfect sized, trim wheels for the Ailerons and Rudder are fabulous. I don't know what else to say but I love the feel and operation of all three, and I really like this design setup that Vitally has created.  My only problem is the Landing Gear lever that acts like a two position switch. I have not figured out how to actually get it to work as a gear up and gear down lever. Edit: I have figured out how to make SV Mapper work in all Sims concerning the Landing Gear up and down lever. The overall operation is flawless and the quality of Vitaly's work is very apparent visually and operationally.

Communication: Vitally is an absolute Professional. He will collaborate with you on your design vision, help you learn the choices of different components he can incorporate and guide you along in the process of coming to terms on a final design to produce the unit you ultimately want. From my experience I will say Vitally is a very patient person. He explained the different options available with component choices and gave suggestions when asked for assistance in the basic design concept. He stuck with me during the three weeks when I was trying to transfer him money. It was a pain in the ass on my end but he continued to try to help me and explain how to do it. He was really helpful through the whole process and he tried to make it as painless as possible. He was a super nice guy to me and I enjoyed our communications. I can't wait to start correspondence with him concerning my Throttle Unit.

Conclusion: There is not much left to say. If you can't tell that I am completely satisfied with the product that Vitaly produced for me then you might want to seek professional help because I think it is pretty clear that I feel that I got my moneys worth in this Trim Panel. There are a couple of things worth mentioning that are relevant.

1. It did take approximately 3 months from the time Vitaly received my money until I actually received my unit. I knew this going in and I had no problem with this.

2. Not being a world finance savy person,(I don't transfer money around much, if any, mainly because I don't have a lot of it to move around, but just enough, thank you Lord.) I could not find a way to get my money to Vitally in Ukraine. I tried several companies over three frustrating weeks, all to no avail. So be warned, if you are familiar with this process then maybe it will be easy for you, but I just about gave up on ordering this unit from Vitally because of this difficulty, which was not his fault, but my naivety of world finance. Honestly though Vitally, I think it is time to move the family and the business to a PayPal friendly country, say maybe France or England?

On that note, I reached out to a person here on these very Forums, a very involved person with TGBS and he agreed to broker the transaction and transfer my money to Vitaly for me so I could order my Trim Panel. So here is a shout out to that person, you know who you are. Without you, I would probably have just given up. Thank you Sir! I still want to do the Throttle and will require your services again, but this month I have to put tires on my ride. Maybe after the first of the year, hopefully.

So should you consider GVL for some sort of HOTAS unit? Absolutley!!! I mean look at his work, it is top notch professional hardware! Vitaly's product reviews are all positive and you will receive a very valuable lesson during your build time for absolutely no additional cost. Patience is a Virtue! I Highly Recommend GVL for any hardware product you may desire and I recommend Vitaly as a down to earth person that will work tirelessly to fulfill your requirements. Nuff Said!...Finally,....I think?

My only problem is the Landing Gear lever that acts like a two position switch. I have not figured out how to actually get it to work as a gear up and gear down lever. I have tried using SV mapper but no luck. It will work one way but not the other. The lever operates properly, but getting the software to receive the input properly still has me confused. I have installed vJoy and JoystickGremlin to try to remedy this, but because of the lack of a proper manual explaining how to use JG I have yet to really learn how to use a Virtual Joystick in sim. If anyone has any good vJoy, JG tutorials or an actual normal persons manual explaining how to use JG, please let me know. The overall operation is flawless and the quality of Vitaly's work is very apparent visually and operationally.

Drew, hello.
accept my condolences...

Since I no longer remember how I implemented the connection of microswitches on the "gear" lever, theoretically one microswitch can be installed there in one of the extreme positions of the lever. The microswitch is connected to the controller on the "toggle switch" connectors, that is, when the microswitch in the controller is closed, button (for example) 65 is triggered, and when the microswitch in the controller is opened, button 66 is triggered.
But neither Windows nor the game can see these positives directly, for them you need to use a mapper.

Hi GVL224,

I am looking for a better throttle for my VR IL-2 setup. I currently use a Saitek Throttle Quadrant which has 3 axes, 1 for Prop', 1 for Throttle (or Boost) and 1 for Elevator trim (Could be used for fuel mixture, but I don't have another axis available for Elevator trim).

Your control units look excellent, I haven't scrolled through every page of this thread, but the first 5 pages or so. Enough to get a good idea of what you are capable of.

I have a few questions:

1) Are you able to make throttle and propellor RPM detents on these two axis? In the Spitfire IXe (my usual ride) I would like to have a detent for a throttle setting of 12 lbs boost and for the propellor a detent for 2850 RPM: This is 'International Power' (for up to 1 hour) essentially max continuous. Then full throttle and Prop' would give 18 lbs boost and 3000 RPM.

2) Would it be possible to have adjustable detents? So I can change between the Spitfire IXe and the Spitfire Vb with it's different engine management?

3) Is it possible for you to put trim controls on the throttle unit, 1 larger 'wheel' for Elevator trim and a simple twist knob for Rudder trim?

Please can you give me some idea of the price? Please message me if you don't want to put prices in this thread.

Thanks for taking the time to read and understand my requests!

Algy-Lacey, hello.
Look on my YouTube channel, everything is there :)
https://www.youtube.com/user/GVL224/videos
1.Yes, I can, but to be honest, not a supporter ...
it is almost impossible to ensure the required accuracy of the clamps.
2. no.
3. If I understand you correctly, then yes, you can.

The price depends on the configuration of the unit, I calculate it individually according to the available configuration data.
Usually it is from 200 Euros and more.

Best regards, Vitaly.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!

I will have a look at your youtube channel a bit later.

You say that you are not a supporter with regards to throttle detents, what do you mean? You can do it, but don't usually?

With an adjustable detent not being possible, then I would like a throttle with detent for Spitfire Mk IXe set to 12lbs boost and a second axis for Propellor with a detent set to 2850 RPM. Would you be able to experiment within IL-2 to get these detents right? Or would it be something that I would set up once I have received my throttle?

I have to choose between your custom made unit and a replica Spitfire IX throttle (by Authentikit), I'm not sure at what Boost setting the WEP on this Authentikit throttle is set to. I am leaning toward a custom unit as it will have the correct detent for throttle and prop', will have plenty of additional buttons and a trim wheel as well.

Your prices seem fair. If I want to order a throttle unit then how do I show you my design ideas? And how long is your current waiting list?

Many thanks,

Algy-Lacey

I know it's going to sound funny, but when I've submitted my design ideas to @GVL224, I used good ol' MS Paint. ? Easy enough to fix and move things around as necessary.

I myself do not use any clamps, on the levers ... but if the client wants, I do it if it can be realized by my capabilities.

The fact is that I can only approximately make stops (steps) in% of the entire lever travel of my mechanics. There are several types of such devices. You need to decide in what form you want these limiters.
My channel has all the options.

To determine the complete set, write to me on my mail GVL224@UKR.NET

That's great that you can do detents Vitaly, it is a deal breaker for me.

I will email you at some point soon and perhaps we can discuss different clamps / stops / steps.

Roughly how long is your backlog - queue for making throttles? 1 month? 2 months?

Thanks,

Algy-Lacey

Usually I stipulate the period from payment to dispatch of the finished product, about three months. Of these, I have been making previous orders for about two months, and for about a month I have been developing, agreeing on nuances and making the current order.
Sometimes it turns out in less than three months.
