SCG_ErwinP Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Hi all! I need help to fix stuttering: First, I have a LG 29UM69G 75Hz & FreeSync, AsRock Fatal1ty x370 Pro Gaming, AMD Ryzen 5 1600x, 2x4GB G.Skill 3466 @3200MHz, Asus Rx Vega 64 Strix. So, IL 2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad is the main game that I play. I think i have a good PC but the performance isn't that so good. It's knowed that this title is CPU-bound, okay, but isn't acceptible that I can't achieve 75 FPS in that PC and that i can perceive stuttering when looking to ground in this game; After take off, all the time that I'm looking to the ground, the terrain is tremulous and seems like micro-slides (paused sequencial images), so, here my PC is getting stuttering. I've tryed enable and disable all Sync that you can imagine (FRTC, Chill, FreeSync, VSync, RivaTurner FPS Cap) I've read about enable Vsync in game + FreeSync, others say to enable just the FreeSyc and disable Vsync.. I would like to know how to minimize, in the correct way, this stutterings. To complement my issues list, I can't achieve 75 FPS when I playing IL 2 Sturmovik: Battle of Stalingrad on Ultra Settings; When I'm at ground, taxiing or rolling the FPS stay around 61~69. After take off it stabilize at 75 FPS. As this title is CPU-bound, I believe that with overclock i can achieve a little bit more FPS but I don't know how to overclock via P-States, i don't want to do overclock with fixed voltage. All comments about it will be welcome! English isn't my primary language, so forgive some mistake.
LLv34_Flanker Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 (edited) S! First of all turn OFF following things: SSAO and HDR. Graphical gimmicks at best. You are better off dropping Gamma in game to 0.9. Do not run in Full Screen if you are using same resolution as desktop, for example 1920x1080 or whatever your setting is. Check that the VR setting is unchecked. High setting also gives nice looking game, try that if Ultra is too much. Shadows to medium, they look good enough then too. Grass to normal or lower. Mirrors to Simple or Off if not flying planes with them. Horizon draw distance can have some impact, try 100-130km. Far detail has more impact, try 2X. Antialiasing in game use 2X, but the card should be enough for 4X. Use 4K textures On, does not impact much or nothing. I use Lanscape at Blurred + Sharpening on.Turn OFF the FPS limiter in game and VSync OFF. Use only FreeSync. In Adrenalin Software pretty much let everything be as it is, just point the profile to IL2.EXE instead of the LAUNCHER.EXE. Your memory seems a bit low, would be good to have 16Gb of RAM rather than 8Gb. If your motherboard has a Gaming option for CPU that slightly overclocks it, use that instead of fiddling with P-states. Ryzen seems to do pretty good with it´s own OC thingy. Most performance you get with low latency DDR, I have CAS14 DDR3200 by G.Skill. If you have fiddled with the WattMan there are some things you could tweak. I UNDERVOLTED my card and got more FPS out of it! Strange if you ask me. More info herer: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/vega-64-overclocking-undervolting-information-guide.18793012/ I will post my settings as pictures soon. 40plus Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Hmm, I get stuttering with my rig (Ryzen 1700x, 16GB G.SKILL DDR4 3000, 1080ti) playing exclusively in VR (Vive). I may try some of your processor suggestions but I've never done any over-clocking before. I did opt for a water cooling system just in case I ever wanted to though.

After disabling/downgrading so many things I concludes that this game has a bad optimization. A high end graphic card can't play a game from 2014 with high level settings. I will try your suggestions and i will bring the results. Thank you a lot!
AristocratPanda Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Ryzen 1700@3.8ghz + 1080ti + 16gb @2933 here. I gave up trying. Whatever I tried, I could't get it to run properly. The game just doesn't feel smooth even when it's locked at 60fps. A lot of micro-stutters as soon as there's some action going on. And trying to find a good trade off is a real pain unfortunately. You change anything in the settings, you have to restart the game. The game engine has received some serious optimizations in the past but it still needs improvement I guess. S! 1 1
Rjel Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Also make sure Seed when downloaded is unchecked. I think it defaults to that setting with a fresh install. You can also bypass the Launcher and start from the .exe instead.
Thad Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Please check this out. ---------------------------- Graphic Smoothness

Ryzen processors perform poorly in Il-2 (especially VR) due to their huge single-thread performance disadvantage. This is demonstrated in several tests [1,2]. 4 hours ago, 3./JG15_HansPhilipp said: A high end graphic card can't play a game from 2014 with high level settings. There is no such problem. Modern cards can run the game very well, even at 4K resolution. The CPU limitation does exist, although it can be mitigated with the right hardware. Besides, the game's rendering has completely changed since 2014. 6 hours ago, LLv34_Flanker said: Your memory seems a bit low, would be good to have 16Gb of RAM rather than 8Gb. Additional RAM won't make a performance difference unless you're running out of memory with stuff running in the background. 7 hours ago, 3./JG15_HansPhilipp said: As this title is CPU-bound, I believe that with overclock i can achieve a little bit more FPS but I don't know how to overclock via P-States, i don't want to do overclock with fixed voltage. For the sake of completeness, can you verify that you are not hitting 100% GPU usage? You should be able to find an overclocking guide specific to your motherboard. Setting a frequency and Vcore should be all that's necessary. Edited September 12, 2018 by Mitthrawnuruodo
Remontti Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Try if there is difference running windowed vs full screen. I've gsync monitor and I had stuttering issues in windowed mode.
SAS_Storebror Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 I've had exactly the opposite: G-Sync Monitor and stuttering in Full Screen Mode. No stuttering in Windowed Mode now (albeit other settings had to be toned down as well, but this has been discussed here sufficiently). See what got my issues solved here: Mike
LLv34_Flanker Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 S! If using same resolution in game as on desktop, no need to run Full Screen. That was in Jason's tips. So Vsync Off and FreeSync On works for me. The online stutter is always there more or less. With my settings and system I get 80-200fps.
SCG_ErwinP Posted September 12, 2018 Author Posted September 12, 2018 Hi all! Thank you a lot for the help/comments and I have some good news! I'm at work right now, then i will share screen shots later, but, basically i was sabotaging myself... Wait until later and i will explane with details. I really love this community! See you!!

SCG_ErwinP Posted September 17, 2018 Author Posted September 17, 2018 Hi all! As said, i was sabotaging myself because i don't changed, in Windows graphic settings, the Hertz of monitor to 75Hz since I bought this PC AND in Windows Power Plan was selected Power Saver. So, I did this two modifications and applyed LLv34_Flanker suggestions too, thank you mate! Now, my experience has improved a lot! Thank you all guys! 2
