69th_chuter Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Just now, =FEW=Hauggy said: My philosophy is "the more the deadlier", there ain't nuffin like a rain of steel son! I agree to the extreme but I thought his comment interesting. On the other hand it's coming from someone in the Ninth Air Force with a tactical strike primary mission. Apparently Moon also liked to fire LOOONNNGGG bursts and his crew chief would slide the barrel sleeves off at the last moment before takeoff and back on immediately after return with it being assumed the barrels would cool better that way.

Jade_Monkey Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 10/10 in the looks department. I hope the sounds are as good as the A20 and we have a winner!
ShamrockOneFive Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 The P-47 is, as expected, quite beautiful in its way but what I'm really impressed with is seeing it with the aluminum finish. Wow. I know we already have that on some aircraft but, and pardon the pun, it really shines on the P-47! Beautiful! 1
BladeMeister Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Cannot wait! Nothing like a Pair of Jugs to stir up the GBS!! S!Blade<>< Spoiler

How...how can you gaze upon the botticellian curves of the P-47 and not feel a stirring in your soul? The P-47 is a fighter as imagined by renaissance painters. Keep your sharp lines and skinny tails. Give me gigantic radials, chunky fuselages and huge proportions or give me death! Everything in the Jug is manual, there is mechanical lock on the throttle quadrant so you can lock the throttle, Pitch, and Turbo together to act as an "auto" function but it's not always the best thing to do. Going manual is usually going to give you the best performance. The mixture is similar to the P-40 with multiple positions to set it as, you'll have to actually look at the throttle in order to know if it's in the right setting or not. The Jug is my favorite aircraft of all time, I can't wait to fly her and bag some Jerries that are trying to dive or zoom away from me. Hopefully we will see the K-14 or the GGS as a modification. P-47s were using the british GGS back in 43 and thy started using the K-14 in late 44. I also hope they leave the pylons off when you aren't carrying a loadout, they cause quite alot of drag and I really wont need them in an escort role or fighter sweep. Poochnboo Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Well, if the past is any indication, when they start showing pictures that's the next airplane we're getting. So, that's good news indeed. Very much looking forward to this. I might have to get out of my Spitfire for this one. As far as the pylons go, I'm gonna have them on whether I'm carrying a load or not. Just because I've hardly ever seen a Thunderbolt without them. Just seems like they're part of the airplane to me. And people who think it's too shiny...calm down. That's what God made skinners for. There are a redicuous amount of great paint schemes for this airplane. The skinners are gonna have a ball. By the way....with that widetracking landing gear, there should be no taxiing issues with this beast. Boy, am I gonna terrorize the countryside with this monster! 1

P51DMatt Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 I'll probably be flying a P-47 career mode listening to this song. ?
AwesomeSprawvy Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 The Jug is, in my opinion, a beautiful aircraft and I can hardly wait to take to the virtual skies with it. Thanks for posting these pics!
TP_Sparky Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 (edited) Beautiful! The Eagle Squadron pilots transferring from the RAF to the USAAF were stunned by the size difference between the Spit and the Jug. William "Poppy" Dunn, the first American fighter ace of WWII wrote about his RAF Eagle Squadron Hurricane and Spitfire combat experience and then his extensive Thunderbolt and Mustang combat in the USAAF in WWII and the Chinese Civil War leading Chinat air strikes. He has lots of love for the Spitfire and the Jug. Great for Thunderbolt detail. Read his biography, Fighter Pilot. Edited August 3, 2018 by TP_Sparky 2
SYN_Mike77 Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Gotta be honest, never was much of a P 47 fan. Always preferred the Mustang.....but suddenly, I don't know. That thing looks stunning!

That's Glenn Eagleston at the controls. 354th Fighter Group....yeah, the "Pioneer Mustangs." They had to give up their P-51's during December of '44 through February of '45. They weren't happy about it atall! They got their beloved P-51's back in March. 2 hours ago, TP_Sparky said: The Eagle Squadron pilots transferring from the RAF to the USAAF were stunned by the size difference between the Spit and the Jug. There was a story they used to tell about the P-47, when it first arrived in England. They landed at an RAF base and British ground crews were there waiting for them since the Yank ground crews hadn't arrived yet. A Thunderbolt taxiis in and parks and the pilot climbs out and jumps off of the wing. He is about to walk away, but notices the "Fitter" standing there looking at the plane. "What's wrong?" asks the American pilot. The confused looking English ground crewman answers, "Well, sir...Where's the rest of the crew?" 2 3

Imagine how much more intimidating it could have been with a brace of Hispanos in each wing instead of those piddly little .50cal paint-chippers. I used to love the P-47 in the old Il-2 days; I'm really looking forward to flying the old girl again.

I would set your expectations accordingly.
pilotpierre Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Tail End Charlie by James E Brown (a Jug pilot flying bomber escort and staffing/bombing missions in Italy). A good info read for all you budding jug pilots awaiting your steed.

I don't think he actually meant the release of the whole module. He means, I believe, the P-47 only. And I'm pretty sure we will see that this year from the looks of it. Hell....maybe even next month! Well...okay...October. 1

As far as we know they've been working on it since early this year, so I'm willing to bet a late august or september release of the Jug. From the time they show in-game screens to early access is usually a month if we go by the previous aircraft, but due to the complexity of the Jug I give a late september-early october release at the latest and late august at the earliest. Hope to see it in 1-2 months. What I'm really interested in is the cockpit shots, hope we get to see some soon.

J2_Steve Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 I remember when Jason formed 777, which is a good few years ago now. When 777 started it was Jason's aspiration to produce a P47 SIm, think it was to be based in the Pacific though. Looks like he is finally making some progress 2
