I've searched most of tutorials but couldn't find any clue other than the borders icon , I'm the kind of person who likes doing things perfect

when I saw the campaign map I was unpleased , cuz I couldn't do such magnificent work  .

I wanted this post to be information gathering one , on how to create the perfect map for your server .

I have around 4 icons that I couldn't master or discover the secret

1- Joint Attack arrows

2- strapped position

3- background colored position

4- how to write on the map in axis or allies color with underline

to make it easy for you guys I've gathered most of cool Map drawings in one pic

I hope that the PROS solve it .

in the end I have to thank @[TWB]Sketch for his help , he gave me the push to make a reasonable good mission

No matter what you do, you will not get these icons. There are ways to fake it though. Give me a bit and I'll post up some examples.

For colors...

Russian: 134, 0, 0

German: 20, 85, 110

The colors are a little dark against the sky if you make it a subtitle message color, instead of a color on the map. I recommend going 255,0,0 for Russian and 0,0,255 for German. You can also use any RGB color picker to get a different value. Here is an a good picker from w3schools - https://www.w3schools.com/colors/colors_picker.asp

These items you can't get are generated using Flash, IIRC. Only available to use 3rd party mission makers in scripted campaigns. Never done it myself, so I can't help you with the specifics

I can't make a "Zone Type".

I'm using this configuration in the icons:

Name: Blank
Background color RGB: 255, 0, 0 (red)
Enabled: Selected
Icon ID: None
Line Type: Zone Type 1
Coalitions: Axis is True, Neutral and Allies are True or False
Each icon icon are target linked.

In the brief of the mission I see the circle, but without diagonal lines.

I have opened other example missions and I dno't see the diagonal lines.

Have you tried using my group and modifying it for your needs?

Are you sure every icon has these elements (as you listed)? As an example, what do you mean "Neutral and Allies are True or False"?

If all else fails, can you give me the group or mission file? I'll take a look at it.

I imported some groups from your mis. (eg: Red Small Dark Fill Zone)
I also tried to make simple examples with 3 icons.
And I also opened TimTM sample missions of the Editing Manual.

The Neutral, Allies and Axis coalition advanced properties should not affect this issue. It's just an attempt due to frustration.

You can get my attempts here

Top-left corner is your group RedSmallDarkFillZone.

Thanks

EDIT:

I just saw the error.
When the map opens in the brief, the Zone Type do not have diagonal lines.
Then I move the map until the zones are off the screen.
Then I move the map until the zones are visible again and I see the diagonal lines correctly. ?

AHh yes... The size of the zone has to be fairly large, or you'll have to zoom in to see the filled in area. Glad you got it working!

How do you manage to get both IL2 and the mission editor running at the same time ?

One refuses to open if the other one is already running

Keep in mind, having both open at the same time causes issues with the editor and your mission. You will have to eventually close both, open only the editor and reapply the terrain to the editor to fix any errors. You may also have to reset any ground objects back to the ground after resetting the terrain. You can see an example of the errors I'm talking about in this video:

Additionally, the editor will crash more often with both the editor and game open at the same time. Another note, do not turn on the "terrain view" in the editor, only use the "map view"; as this will cause the editor to crash pretty much every time. Finally, your mileage may vary and there's no support for having both open at the same time.

With the disclaimer out of the way, you can open both the editor and the game by doing the following steps:

  1. Open the launcher
  2. Uncheck full screen mode
  3. Open the game and login
  4. Once in the game's menu, go back to your desktop
  5. Launch the editor and wait until the editor has completely loaded
  6. ??????
  7. PROFIT!

Note: You can switch between editor and game quickly by alt-tabbing. You may also want to lower video settings since both the editor and game are open at the same time.

That did the trick !

I've noted the advice, I won't be using it often then. For now it is only to get a nice GUI map so it should be ok.

Many thanks !

You must open the sim first, then open the editor.
You will receive a warning message, accept it.

EDIT: sorry, I didn't see the previous message.

Hi,

Thanks for the tutorial @[TWB]Sketch

I have only a problem with colored text.

Even if i change the color icons, the text are always black (not blue or red).

Any idea ?

Thanks

Posted (edited)

Most of the icons text color is black and can't be changed. You'll have to experiment to find an icon type that does what you want.

How are you 'Sketch'. I'm glad you posted your icon tutorial again, I have now fixed my twisted attack symbols on my recent single missions. Do you know how to create the 'military symbols' in the game i.e. a tank symbol, an infantry company symbol, a Battalion symbol, an artillery symbol etc. etc.

Thank you,

DFLion

Many moons ago, @Jade_Monkey created the very icons you're looking for. See this post in the group sharing thread:
