The Flying Ass Clowns say "Sorry!" for Server Crashes

Dear guests and frequent players on the FAC Dedicated Server,

We deeply apologize for the crashes you are experiencing sometimes when flying on the Flying Ass Clowns Server lately.

The issues have been reported and are most likely being investigated by the devs already:

We have taken measures to bring the server back online in case of a crash as soon as possible, which usually means that if it crashes, it will be back within a minute.

However due to the nature of these random crashes, we just cannot promise at the moment whether the server will run stable for 15 minutes or 15 hours.

Currently you can have both at the same probability.

Cheers!

Mike

I like this server - icons and external views, and all the robots flying even if few players on. ( If more people set up their servers with these options more players might be flying?).

It's only crashed once or twice on me

Congrats!

Hi @SAS_Storebror

Thanks for the server it is very nice and currently the only stable normal server.

I'm sure you are aware of this but when the AI planes taxi they are suicidal lol. I don't really have experience with the FMB but maybe you could slow them down a bit or implement a logic where they will give way to player or other AI. Atm they are ramming into everything.

Also I don't know if this is a general game bug or due to your implementation but if you bail and get captured it always give 2 deaths.

Anyway thanks for the epic server. Keep up the good work! !!!

Thanks for your feedback @AeroAce :friends:

AI's "Taxi to Takeoff" feature can be suicidal indeed, we've even made a video of a bunch of apparently drunken russian AI pilots there :drink2:

The general problem is that AI planes don't care for any obstacles in their way when taxiing to takeoff.

This includes other AI buddies as well as human players.

Concerning other AI players, we've tried to counter this issue by adding check zones so that only one AI plane starts to taxi at a given time, and others stay on hold until the previous one successfully reached it's checkzone.

The gap between two planes which is created that way is a tradeoff between safety considerations and the need to get planes into the air rather quickly.

Most of the times it works, sometimes it doesn't, e.g. when the fastest taxiing plane comes right after the slowest one, or when an AI pilot manages to perform a couple of donuts on the taxiway.

In that case, planes that suffer critical damage will immediately de- and then respawn on their parking place.

Finally, because sometimes planes get their engine killed but the game - for whatever reason - doesn't consider this a critical damage, we despawn planes that didn't takeoff within a specific time after having received their taxiing command.

Concerning human players, you definitely have to take care yourself that there's no AI plane coming right behind you when you start rolling. They definitely won't do so otherwise.

Of course everything would be easier if we'd just let the AI planes have airstart (which they've had before) but we deem the immersion worth the effort. There's just so much more life on at the base with AI populating the taxiways.

2 deaths for a bailout above enemy area sounds odd.

Looking at the stats at least everything seems correct: http://www.sas1946.rocks:8000/pilot/362/AeroAce/?tour=1

@SAS_Storebror hi thanks for the detailed info on what is going on with the taxiing aircraft. Defo keep that feature I really like it.

RE to two deaths for being captured or I should have more accurately said it gives two captured ticks for the price of one. It may not be on the actual server stats but on the player list and mission summary in game It will give two grave stones if you get captured once.  This was happening on other servers but they seem to have fixed it but your server still does it.

Hi !

Hardy

Hi !

A very nice Server I think. Specially because Mods are enabled now.

I was hoping for this a long time to try them online.

But often when I try to join the game, I get kicked a few seconds after the map loaded.

Can you tell me why ? Did I do something wrong ?

You have contiunously ignored our server rules, namely rule #1 (the server rules are being described here and in the mission briefings).

This was not only reported to the Admins by other players, we also had the chance to experience it ourselves a couple of times.

Therefore we banned you from the server.

Best Regards,

SAS~Skylla

Fun server.  It's a hoot to taxi amid the AI aircraft (never boring!) and incoming artillery/bombs.  I like going into the dogfight area and going down low in a 190 (you know you shouldn't) to get a kill and as you follow them around in a turn (remember, I'm in a 190 so don't try this at home) and you glance over your shoulder to make sure you're clear and there's not a red aircraft above you- there are TWO!  Arggh!

I like KoTA and WoL but the FAC allows me and a buddy to saddle up and be in action in moments (if the airfield is under attack) or within a few minutes at most.  The human pilots here have been very good.  Thanks for this great server.

A noob question, but how can i increase difficulty, like enabling engine management??

I do not think you can, this is server options. You might request for it to be there.

You can.

Actually you can turn off all those additional helpers and features.

Turn off Auto Mixture+Supercharger (Default: L Shift + M),

turn off Auto Radiator (Default: L Shift + R) and

turn off Auto RPM limiter (Default: L Shift + N)

to have "complex" engine management like we've had before switching to "Normal" Settings.

Furthermore, the "Normal" setting introduced "Aiming Help" which we didn't have before. It can be turned off separately per default with R Ctrl + I.

Damn, I've been thinking those are some individual plane's engine setting commands...

Thanks for the help!

Not seeing "everything" spawn option, only bombers and WW1 fighters. Is "everythng" option still available?

Posted

Yes.

There are three spawnpoints for blue and red. The bomber spawnpoint provides air spawn for bombers and the WWI kites at high altitude (that's the one you picked most likely). The mudmover spawnpoint only allows you to pick planes with bomb loadout and you will spawn on the runway with running engine.

The third spawn point will allow every plane with every loadout. Using this point you will spawn in parking position and have to taxi to the runway first.

All those spawn points are relatively close to each other so you might want to zoom in on the map a little to make selecting them easier.

Got it. Thanks!
