Quekel Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 I've a stable FPS of 45 using VR but i can't help to notice some delay stutter while flying a quick mission. Also where do you change the SS in SteamVR?? I can't find it at all... There are some different guides online, and for some reason i cant find a correct one yet to get best performance/graphics at this time. My setup i7 4790K 4Ghx Zotact AMP extreme 1080 16 GB DD3 SSD
JonRedcorn Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 There's guides on this very subforum. Try checking the stickied posts at the top. Steamvr settings are on the little steamvr status windows, you click where it says steam vr and the drop down menu appears and click settings, then go to video and choose manual override, you can adjust the SS there.
HunDread Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 45 FPS will always cause delays, gunsight artifacts etc. Ideal is 90 but very hard to achieve. Basically impossible to maintain 90 FPS in all scenarios. You can try lowering your setting and see if you like the result or not. These are my settings. I can maintain 90 FPS most of the time with 4790K at 4.7 GHz, GTX1070 and 16GB DDR3 RAM at 2666Mhz. Preset - Balanced SSAO - OFF HDR - ON (but bloom OFF in startup.cfg file) Landscape Blurred Sharpen - ON Shadows - Off (Big FPS killer) Mirrors - OFF (I do not fly planes where it is available so not sure about the impact) Clouds - Low AA - 2x Distant Landscape detail - 2x Visibility Distance - 100km High Res Textures - ON HUD mostly OFF - key mapped to HOTAS if I need to check something. SuperSampling - NONE - 100% in SteamVR and 1.0 in Oculus Tray tool ASW - OFF with Oculus Tray tool
chiliwili69 Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 You have a very valid CPU for IL-2 VR, but you will need to do overclocking if you want to reduce your stuttering: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29881-overclocking-a-4790k-for-better-bos-performance/ you can also check that list: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/34107-items-to-review-if-you-have-low-performance-in-il-2-vr-test/ Also, What is your RAM frequency? (it has an impact in IL-2 VR)
Quekel Posted July 2, 2018 Author Posted July 2, 2018 No matter what graphic settings i choose, i will never get a stable 90fps, 45 i get stable on high or low settings, my CPU and GPU are both only 30% being used, but there still seems to be some kind of ghosting

chiliwili69 Posted July 2, 2018 Posted July 2, 2018 6 hours ago, Quekel said: my CPU and GPU are both only 30% being used Even if your CPU is loaded 30%, you CPU is the bottleneck. Don´t trust on the %load of your CPU. This is explained here: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29322-measuring-rig-performance-common-baseline-for-il-2-v3/?do=findComment&comment=499246 To know your memory speed you can download CPU-Z and look at the DRAM Frequency and multiply that number by two. Why you don´t do overclocking?
Quekel Posted July 3, 2018 Author Posted July 3, 2018 Why should I overclock? Shouldnt my CPU be sufficient allready ? Cant i solve this with process lasso or something?
dburne Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 1 hour ago, Quekel said: Why should I overclock? Shouldnt my CPU be sufficient allready ? Cant i solve this with process lasso or something? Quekel you are fine. Yes if you could get the cpu overclocked to around 4.5 GHz it would help a little, but I will tell you - you are not going to achieve a steady solid 90 fps in VR with this sim with current technology. Don't get too fixated on that. Turn the frame rate counter off, and shoot for just getting a smooth experience. For me I get that best by turning ASW off, however your mileage may vary. With ASW on you will get a smooth 45 fps , however will also have some ghosting of planes as they fly by and maybe prop artifacts. Also fly with the HUD hidden all you can, it eats into the performance.
chiliwili69 Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 6 hours ago, Quekel said: Why should I overclock? Shouldnt my CPU be sufficient allready ? Because if you do overclock your CPU will run faster and it will be less bottleneck. In this game, we have conducted a lot of tests and we clearly demonstrated that the more you overclock your CPU the more fps you obtain (either in monitor or in VR). This is because in most of the cases the CPU is the bottleneck, even running at 5.0 GHz. The gain depends very much on the specific settings, scenario and PC configuration. I myself conducted a experiment to go from 4.0 to 4.3 and to 4.6. The average gain I got was about 16 fps, which is not bad: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29881-overclocking-a-4790k-for-better-bos-performance/?do=findComment&comment=485296 As Don said, none of us reach 90fps all time. But we try to tweak the settings and get the most of our PCs. So CPU overcloking is one of the first thing to do. Nowadays, doing overclocking is not like doing Overclocking ten years ago. It is a current practice in most of simmers and gamers, and the nice thing is that you don´t need to be an expert in OC to do OC, just follow some basic rules. We are not talking about doing extreme overcloking. Just going to 4.7 or 4.8 is more than fine. In fact, the 4790K is probably one of the most overcloked CPUs in the history of Intel. Unleash the power of your CPU!
Quekel Posted July 5, 2018 Author Posted July 5, 2018 I have no idea what to change in the bios.. MSI Z gaming 5 mobo

chiliwili69 Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 I have an MSI Z97M-Gaming. Your BIOS should not be very different from mine. At the end of this post there is a link with the BIOS setting I used: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/34107-items-to-review-if-you-have-low-performance-in-il-2-vr-test/ But I don´t use the BIOS for overclock. I just use MSI Command CEnter to set CPU voltage and CPU freq. The procedure for overclock is explained in this post: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/29881-overclocking-a-4790k-for-better-bos-performance/?do=findComment&comment=526461
