So many airplanes in this sim use this gunsight so I figured I'll leave this here...I hope it helps!

I did not know these rings existed because the default head position on all my aircraft puts the rings outside the reflector glass.   I have just had to go through adjusting them all.

I was hoping you would do a PBP after I watched your German one. Good stuff!

Yeah usually to get the most view you end up sitting way back which obscures the outer ring at the very least. It was better to do the demonstrations in the Yak-1b since you can comfortably fly in a position that lets you see both rings instead of just one.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out what would be a good default head position for PBP-equipped planes. This topic suggests that one ring should be seen at all times, but in some planes that would mean putting the camera really far forward.

Am I missing a point?  Is there a disadvantage to moving the pilots default head position forward to get the rings then zooming out to get the wider view again?

Thanks Requiem. I have not missed one of your videos from rof to date. Great stuff and btw...your a sniper. And the amount of research you must do is huge.

I wouldn't say it's a disadvantage. It just feels sometimes that it's hard to get both a natural head position and a good view of the sight ring at the same time. There was a mod back in RoF that created the realistic head positions in those airplanes according to how the pilot actually sat but they didn't line up with quite a few of the sight correctly. Usually the head position in game needed to be much higher than it was in reality.

Thanks Luger, I'm definitely not a sniper though. It's really just a function of the process from creating these Angle Off rings and applying it. I miss plenty of shots believe me :)

I try and research what I can but sometimes I don't always have the complete picture and need to extrapolate what I need in some cases. There is plenty of stuff that no one really sees in the background that goes into what I need to make. For example, in these deflection shooting videos I made an excel spreadsheet for the math I needed to simplify things instead of having to do it long hand every time. It's a long winded explanation so a picture is probably easier. If people are interested I can make a public version of it and it will help you understand any reflector gunsight plus give you guidance on creating your own Angle Off rings. I've been trying to bring in a new concept with each successive video and for the US N3A sight I plan on talking about "speed rating" a gunsight (essentially throwing the muzzle velocity into the mix of things).

@LukeFFNot sure about every plane as I don't own them all but at least in some, it is possible to pull the sight towards the pilot, so there is no need to change your position (lean forward) to see all the rings.

@SYN_Requiem Do you plan to make a video about using PBP-1 for rockets/bombing, or is there any good material about it, tried searching myself but with no luck and maybe the most important question was PBP-1 helping with rocket/bomb attacks at all?

There is also additional mechanical reticle on the left side of the sight mount what was it used for?

Hey TrueGrey,

I can make a video covering rocket attacks in the PBP-1, but the VV-1 is essentially the same sight which is why I haven't done it yet.  These two sights have the same dimensions for the most part (comparisons are shown in my Il-2 strafing video here). If you use the PBP-1 for rocket attacks your attack range should be about 800m using the center of the PBP-1's crosshair with the attack technique in my VV-1 rocket attack video here as this sight picture corresponds to the 800m range on the VV-1.

Bombing wise with the PBP-1...you'll just be doing the old school guesstimation as it goes under the nose.

I always assume that any mechanical gunsight attached to reflector sights are simply a backup in case of the reflector sight failing for whatever reason. However, I haven't done the math to figure out the dimension of it.

@SYN_Requiem

So PBP-1 can be used with rockets only to more or less aim at 800m targets, better than nothing I guess, thanks for the clarification : )
