Found one of Grandpa's planes. One shot shows it in flight and the other shot with squadron members posing. Too bad it is a later model than this one =o(

Anyone have any color references for the USAAF (late-war) OD Green? I've come across a lot of different sources and none of them are even remotely similar.

Currently working on the 646th BS (10 aircraft) and am a little stuck with regards to the colors used.

You inevitably come to the point where 'artistic licence' kicks in. There is simply no way you can expect to get colours exactly right as they would even look different on a daily basis. Just get yourself somewhere in the ball park and then tell yourself, "This is what it looked like on that particular Wednesday afternoon"!

Dunno if you've got these? Handy for a starting point... https://mega.nz/#!NnIVwIAJ!y6Fa-9NxF0ZvDnirDYfg6HTLL3_wsNrYCm1aS5Oaabo

You can always 'base it on'? The only major difference is the nose section really. It CAN be worked around as a tribute.

A20B INVASION STRIPES SET - GIMP PROJECT TEMPLATE

Nice work on those invasion stripes mate  :salute: I'm only sorry I didn't see them until I'd uploaded. Reminds me that you can essentially rework a skin indefinately; and the temptation to do so is never far away. I try never to return to burning garden sheds, silent fireworks, or published skins, but instinct is a hard thing to fight

Though it's by no means a complaint, it may be useful to the wider community if you could convert them to a .PSD. Personally (theMonopolistEvilThat.is)Photoshop's not my bag, but the format's very widely supported including with Paintshop Pro.

Thanks. TBH it was your work on B-Beer that got me motivated to do em. Far from skilled but they may be a base for someone.

As I don't skin a lot anymore purchasing PS isn't something I want to do in order to convert them. I have tried converting the files with those wretched online convertors  but it just proved to be one "error occurred" after another. If PS users want them I'm afraid they will have to convert them themselves, or tell me how to do it reliably.

If you want stuff converting and it's possible to open said 'stuff' actually IN Photoshop then you could always send them to me and I'll save 'em for you and send 'em back? Just sing out if needs be?

Skilled enough for me mate - I'd have used them no questions (with edges cut to fit the picture) if they'd have existed at the time :salute:

Everything we do as skinners is standing on the shoulders of giants.

As for the cross-platform formatting, It's a can of worms to be sure! I'll take a look when I get time and see what I can do. My background is with PSP rather than PS and even with PSP i'm more fluent with the older incarnations of the UI - and this has a real impact on my productivity. I had your project files open in GIMP last night, but I haven't tried to cross-platform layers via the clipboard or a mutually supported format yet. I both hope and expect it will be straightforward. All things trend towards toward me being proved wrong

If you use Gimp then just use 'Export As' and the ability to save the file as pretty much whatever format you want is there for the taking. I just had to download it to open those stripes and bingo!!

That's essentially what I did. I eventually settled on a version that most closely resembled the 43 color. Thanks for the link though, I'll check it out.

already tried that - It produces a single layer and a background.

Ah but these are just "averages" of all the reference photos I looked at. A particular historical skin would likely still need a bespoke set making.

Of course but I'm ONLY tryin to help. Anyway, you could paint em green and grey but you could still use the offset as reference for lining up... I use P'Shop meself but a resource is a resource innit, and for those who want it then there it is. If I needed a guide then these'd be good ones for doing the job so nice one! :salute:

I've just redone the link JR. Also, when you export, you can rename the file as psd beforehand. I've just done it and it works for me. Try the updated link and tell me if it works for you?

A20B 'White 8' of Black Sea Fleet in 1944.

As it says below, the original had a dorsal turret with a 12.7mm Beresin Machine Gun.

The colours are unusual together with the camouflage, as described in the same image.

WHO WANTS TO GO OUT TONIGHT?!!

Douglas A20B Havoc

Based on a Boston Mk.III Intruder

W8268 TH-O of No. 418 Squadron - RCAF - Bradwell Bay

April 1942

The bottom reference picture shows the markings in white but they were definitely dull red according to further

research and given that the machine was a night operator.

That's awesome!

Are you sure the roundels on top of the wings looked like that?

Should I put the dl link here? Of course all credit goes to you!

Well a very good friend of mine assured me that the roundels were the correct ones. He works in an Aircraft Museum in France and, more importantly, he's FRENCH! If it causes any concern I can always 'go back to the drawing board' but I went with his (more than knowledgeable) advice on this one. I know what you mean though as a lot of them had the 2-colour roundels on the wing...

Here's his model from the same Squadron... Pr%C3%A9sentation+1.png

Yeah I'm not trying to critisize negatively just asking. :)

I know, I know. I was thinking the same thing exactly and I have just messaged him with that specific question so all will be revealed in due course!! Not a problem to adjust, just half an hour or so if needs be... she's very good-looking though, I must say!

Hi - I redid "Ridin High" - Sorry - new paint tone, better cutting in, weathering etc. I also now add "My Joy".  Both aircraft served in the PTO in New Guinea and are depicted in late 1944.

"Ridin High" was an A20G serving with  388th BS_416th BG.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/i9wbih6abhh0ubp/A-20_43-22166__Ridin'_High_388th_BS_416th_BG.dds

"My Joy" was an A20G serving with 674th BS_ 417th BG. Its nose art was taken from a WT thunder skin by Milton Shupe which I reworked. Shupe has the art on both sides of the aircraft but I cannot find any evidence to confirm this an so have left mine on just the SB side. No mission markings are apparent either, which I find odd.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/7u9d95185t6blj5/A-20_43-22156_My_Joy_674th_BS__417th_BG.dds

Produced with the excellent 4K ICDP/777 Template with a more matte alpha layer to both.

Hello

Boston III BZ201 OA-G belonging to 342 Sdn (Free French). Depicted in Oct 1944 on the Squadron's first day back on the home soil of B50/Vitry-en-Artois. Unlike most allied aircraft at this time, 342 actually reinstated the D-Day Markings in full on the fuselage. They also finally managed to shake free the last of the RAF's dictates about national insignia, painting out the old RAF flash and wing roundels, placing the latter with French AF markings.
