Just installed Blitz from Steam after buying it on sale; naturally it won't start. Tried all the easy fixes, delete/reinstall, etc, so now to send you all the data you need. Hardware is an i7-7700k, 1080ti, 32gb RAM, game on SSD, Warthog stick, throttles, rudders, and Edtracker pro wireless.

No logfiles (log.txt is blank) as the program never really starts.

No cppcrash folder.

I appreciate you are frustrated, but the cause is 99% likely something in your windows install, your windows security system, or a 3rd party program you are running which windows does not like.

You have a system which is more than capable of running the game... and many others run the game successfully with systems very similar.

The log you have provided indicates the is a lack of permission to run the CoD -Blitz .exe from your Windows security system... Quote:

Hi Buzzsaw,

I appreciate your response. Please ignore my petty irritation - it was late and I had tried a bunch of things. I agree that it must be something with my steam installation, so tomorrow (going to rain here so a good day to do it) I plan on completely removing Steam and re-installing it.

I'm not sure about the "permissions"? I understand about giving the CloD .exe permission in Windows defender; I did that last night but it didn't help. I'm pretty sure the error log was from a prior attempt to run Clod.

I only have steam to run IL-2 GB in VR (and have switched to Opencomposite for that), and for VTOL VR; they both have worked fine without any tweaking (well, other than the constant battle to optimize VR...) so I was surprised that CloD Blitz would give me so many problems. But I'm confident that with the help of all you guys I'll get it running pretty soon.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of targets to engage in BAT, IL-2 GB, DCS, etc...!

Thanks again, I'll let you all know how it goes after I fiddle around some more.

OK, finally figured it out and have Blitz working. Turns out it was probably Windows Defender; I had enabled the .exe but that wasn't enough, after bypassing the Steam folder it finally worked. I also made sure my Documents folder was write-enabled.

All this after completely removing Steam from my PC, and re-installing Steam and Blitz into my D:\ SSD in it's own folder.

Thank you to Buzzsaw and everyone else for helping out - it is totally worth it (as I suspected it was!).

Now for the fun of setting everything up and getting some dogfighting in...

Bitz missions will not run... crashes out when just prior to entering pit. Note, trk files will run with no issues, and the training missions work. Quick, mission, campaign, etc.. all fail when moving to enter pit.

Can you let us know your system specifications?

Also can you open your "confi.ini" file in 'Documents/1C SoftClub/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover' folder and enable your logfile.

Delete any previous logfile and delete the 'Cache' folder in the same location.

Then restart the game and repeat what you did to cause a crash.

Then go back to logfile, open and copy paste what is in it here.

I actually figured out the root cause. I was running reshade (latest version 4.5.1.745), and specifically, the dxgi.dll causes crash when attempting to load the Map on Battle Intro screen. Any other display experience, reshade works with no issue (training, tracks, etc..), but once you try a mission which includes the Battle Intro display and the interactive map, CoDB crashes to desktop.

Thus in summary, only use reshade for flows which do not include the Battle Map screen.

3rd Party programs are, next to Anti-Virus, the most common cause of issues with CLIFFS OF DOVER - BLITZ.

Whenever I attempt to run Blitz from Steam it causes my system to reboot. Event manager says its distributed com error 10016. Any attempt to regedit as per fixing distributed com error comes up with access denied regarding permissions changes. Any help most appreciated.

Hello Delta Hawk

Did you turn off the Steam Overlay? This will cause launcher crashes.

I don't see anything in your list which immediately raises alarm bells.

But any 32 bit graphics related programs can cause issues.

Re. your comment about the error:

While I would not recommend an inexperienced user edits his operating system, it is likely you can't do this because you are not logged in as an Administrator.

Basic advice:

First, as has been mentioned many times, the most common cause of a failure to launch is the players Anti Virus program.

When you install... try turning off the AV. I would try installing/starting the game as an Admin and see if that works. Uninstall first and delete original folders you previously installed.

Also please make sure you have an exception both in Windows Defender or any other AV program you are running. Check this before you do anything else. Try turning off the AV and seeing if you can launch.

It seems fairly likely the problem is your AV.

Did you try turning off the AV and then launching?

Did you add the exclusion when in Admin mode?

Have turned off AV in Windows Security and still no joy. Admin all the way. Uninstall. Reinstall. Over and over again. Followed instructions to the letter. Thank goodness IL2 comes with its own installer. Otherwise I would be screwed. Fingers crossed the next iteration of CLOD will come with its own installer. No more steam.

Hi everyone, newbie here. I have been reading this forum (and The Air tactical assault group) and been trying numerous suggestions. I'm having the same problem as many; After installing Steam and downloading Il-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz the game wouldn't startup. It never did. The title Il-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz would appear, then the screen would go black for a few seconds, then back to the desktop! Short of reinstalling Steam and re-downloading the game (which I'd rather not do due to some network bandwidth restrictions - although I will if needed), I think I have tried most of the suggestions given here and elsewhere. I have attached two text files; one of my programs running, and the other is the Error log. Also a picture of an error code and exceptions added to Windows Defender. Apologies if my terminology is not precise...

Most of the time there were no error messages during each crash to desktop, but once I did get "The operation was cancelled by the user."

I don't have any other Antivirus except the free version of Malwarebytes. I have tried running with both Defender and MBytes off and the following:

Safe mode

Run as administrator (steam.exe, launcher64.exe - by the way, I don't have COD.exe or other similar exe. Am I missing something?)

I installed another game from Steam just to see if it would work and it did (Brawlhalla)

Latest .net installed

No joysticks etc attached to the computer

No Afterburner etc running

Steam overlay turned off

Tried running the game offline

MS Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable installed

Updated my BIOS

Updated my graphics driver

Windows 10 is updated

My computer is a Dell XPS 15 9570

16 Gb RAM

i7-8750H CPU

Nvidia Gefore GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q Design 4 Gb VRAM

Apologies if I've missed a fix mentioned somewhere....but I'm really stuck! I don't want to have to redownload and reinstall everything unless there's a good chance it may fix things.

I disabled Windows Defender and had closed Malwarebytes (the free version, which doesn't actively scan in real-time anyway, to my knowledge) before installing steam and downloading the game. Anyway, no luck. Same thing. I've tried starting the game after closing various programs that are running, but no luck. Log file is enabled, but there isn't anything in the log.txt file.

Any help from anyone? ?

Did you enable loging in the configs?

What exactly is happening?

Is the game starting, then crashing after you reach a certain section of the menu? Or is it simply not starting?

Thanks, Buzzsaw, for the help. In both conf.ini and confs.ini LOG=1. Does LOGKEEP also have to be =1?

When I launch Blitz, it usually says "Performing first time setup...Installing: Microsoft DirectX for Windows (step 1 of 1).

Then it says preparing to launch Il-2 etc...

Then the Game title appears (Il-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Blitz)

Then the whole screen goes black and the mouse pointer is round and spinning (you know, when the computer is busy doing something). It only stays black for a few seconds, maybe max 5-6 seconds then it disappears and you see your desktop again.

That's it ?.....?

UPDATE:

I followed Warmoer's suggestion (based on Donik's suggestion from Steam discussion) on creating a new Windows 10 user profile.

And voila...! It works! (Ok, I haven't plugged in my joystick and rudder pedals yet....)

The game loaded and I was able to play a track and see a Bf 110 get shot up by a Hurricane ?

It struck me immediately that the display looked different in my new profile compared to my normal one. I realized that in my regular account I had set my Scale and Layout to higher (175%) in the Display settings. I remember when I first did this Windows warned me that there might be some issues with programs.....

So I went back to my normal account and changed the Scale and layout back to the normal or recommended setting, which is 125%. It makes you log out of your account. When I logged back in and started Blitz, it started up fine.

If I run into weird problems with joysticks etc I'll update you all.

Hello Kaufman

MSI Afterburner can cause problems if it is running when the game is launched.

Start the game first, then launch Afterburner.

Also I see quite a few other programs running... like 'Game Bar'.... better to turn these off.

Also turn off Steam overlay.

You have a lot of background programs running.... from AVAST's add on's (not the AV) to lots of Steam... turn off the Steam overlay.

Also something called "Epic Game Launcher"... "Unreal..." etc.

Turn of these background programs unless you are using them.

Make sure you put an exception in for BLITZ in Avast for the BLITZ .exe... I find this AV program to be the worst for excluding .exe's arbitrarily.

Hello ! The game doest'n launch. I tried some of the fixes like remove the Steam overlay, close the AV or to verify the integrity of the files but it didn't work. Thanks for your help

hello to everyone,

since I've installed Clod Blitz I've experienced poor running with frequent microstuttering and often followed by a crash.....definitely unplayable.

Tried every res configuration, disinstall and fresh install several times,I've no aintivirus running just windows defender and followed every suggestion I found on the net.. I've ended options and I'm resigned to park the game aside sadly but my virtual squad friend wanna play Clod and mostly next Tobruck release so I must make last attempt. On il-2 GB i can play a gorgeous 90/120 fps.

My spec are:CPU AMD Ryxen 7 3.7 ghz, Nvidia GTX 10160 6 GB, ssd crucial 1000Gb, 16 Gb ram, Win 10 64 bit.

Controllers are;VKB Gladiatot, Throttle TWCS Trustmaster with same brand pedals.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

You have a ton of other programs running. (Battle.exe, Thunderbird.exe, etc.)

If you can, I would recommend you shut down any other programs you are not using... don't have them start when you start your computer.

And especially turn off the Steam Overlay... this is different from the Steam programs you need to run the game... I am referring to the unnecessary Steam Overlay. The other programs by Steam which include reference to 'Steam Client' are ok.

I would look at turning off the MSI gaming overlay if you can... that has caused crashes in the past.

Also turn off the Steam overlay. Anyything not 'Steam Client' is unecessary.

Hello, dlc Tobruk purchased aug.7 trying to see if anything of my problem with Blitz could be solved. Nothing at all. Same issue described for Clod Blitz (stuttering and crash = game unplayable). All suggestions on the net were attempted + several hours of precious free time dedicated to made game working properly....no way. So I request a complete refund of my dlc Tobruk purchase. If I can anyway give a suggestion imho this game required a command setting menu and logic referred to assigning command totally redesigned....i.e. what does it means "landing gear neutral" ...in real life landing gear lever are up or down position no neutral! What a pity,It could be an exellent idea if working for me..... Please let me know if I have to do something to get refund of my purchase.

hello, ok this not a case of technical support ....I've just request a refund. I've paid on your site so I supposed you are selling manager of the product and (of course) of the refund. Anyway, as you certainly know, no cd and no box from which obtain contact infos cause it's a digital product..

so you sell a product and after that you disregard completely of customer complain? Nice behaviour

You don't need to submit to a lawyer, just get a refund from Steam or 1C.

And at the end It seems not that true

Hi ITAF_Gerry,

Did you try disabling the MSI programs?, one of which is setting up a RAM disk. I use an MSI computer and do not have have any of the MSI executables running that show up in your program listing.
