Bremspropeller Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 (edited) Toying around with the xEnviro plugin for xPlane, which does some extensive re-shading and makes the atmosphere look even better. It's complimented by Carenado's Beech Baron B58 with the REP Addon, which adds wear and tear and some systems depth to the airplane. We're leaving the greater San Fran Bay area to the east, currently passing by Oakland. Initial cruise altitude is 10500-11000ft. The Baron trues out at about 200KTAS on a fuel flow of just a tad ober 16gal/h per side. As the Maximum Elevation Figure peaks up around 14.7 on some summits, we're cliimbing to 13500ft, navigating around some ridges and generally sticking to passes. There's the old town of Tonopah, Nevada. We're joining the pattern on the extended base for RWY 15. Field elevation is a bit over 5400ft. After landing checks complete, taxiing to the FBO for some hot coffee and a ride into town. The Nav Light reflection on the ground does look neat! ...should have read the A/FD - the FBO is already closed, so it's up to us to find a spot to park. Luckily we do have all the gear with us, so we tie her down and cover her up for the night. Beautiful desert dusk scene. Noe let's grab an Uber and get into town for a good night's rest in some motel. (*shivers at the thought of it*) Edited October 12, 2019 by Bremspropeller 1 1
Bremspropeller Posted October 19, 2019 Posted October 19, 2019 (edited) Shortly before I died because of icing. I got under a relatively thin layer of stratus and had my de-icing boots on "auto". Then the freezing rain set in. The first thing I noticed was a drop in airspeed (not sure if due to the total drag or due to the pitot icing up - maybe both). Having had been killed in a King Air 350 before, I de-activated the A/P, firewalled the throttles, props and mixture. To no avail. I couldn't even hold -1500fpm. Shortly before I had to "land out", I lowered the flaps, but I stalled trying to flare/ breaking the descent and hit nose-first at 90 knots. Ouch! You can see ice building up on the boots (leading edge of the wing), vertical stabilizer, the nose, the prop-hubs and the tip-tanks... I was just about to turn around and intercept the localizer... AndyJWest Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 X-Plane: Trying out a new Edge 540. ? An excellent example of community-generated freeware. Not difficult to chuck around, but precision manoeuvres are another matter. For the moment, I'm mostly just sticking the controls into the corners, and seeing what happens.... 1

Feathered_IV Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Yeah world of warships. I never thought I would play it, but gave it a go in an idle moment. I only do the co-op vas AI mode and would not throw real money at it. However as a ship viewer it is rather nice. I tried war thunder again shortly afterwards, but still find I have a visceral dislike of it and uninstalled within a matter of minutes. 1
Legioneod Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 (edited) Been playing alot of Scourge of War Gettysburg. Relatively minor battle I had, only a single corps but still very chaotic and bloody. Edited October 31, 2019 by Legioneod 1 1
AndyJWest Posted November 1, 2019 Posted November 1, 2019 More X-Plane frolics. Trying out a Sud-Ouest S.O.1221 Djinn helicopter. A bit of an oddball, with the rotor driven by compressed air jets at the tips. No torque, so no tail rotor - yaw control via a rudder which sits in the exhaust from the turboshaft engine which provides the compressed air. Looks nice, but I'm not entirely convinced by the flight model. Seems implausibly aerobatic, and behaves rather oddly at low speeds. Not that I'm qualified to judge...
AndyJWest Posted November 3, 2019 Posted November 3, 2019 More X-Plane soaring over New Zealand, this time in a Schleicher ASG-29. This is a reworked 3D model, with a new FM with accurate flap response (for optimum glide over a wide speed range), dumpable water ballast, and new cockpit instruments that enable you to get the best out of the things low sink rate and 50:1 glide ratio. ? 1 2

Bremspropeller Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 Today some XEnviro shots out of Xplane. Rendering options are up to the customer. Note: XEnviro enables seasons and different amounts of snow-coverages. C310L on final approach in the Salt Lake City area. I had to abandon my plans to fly further northwest, since massive Airmet Zulus, Sierras and Tangos obstructing my way (the icing-crash I reported earlier happened in that same Airmet Z). I travelled VFR and had to tuck under the Airspace B of SLC, but stay out of the Hill AFB reserved area. See the road there? That's where Bravo starts going down to the surface. Boeing 727-100 series approaching Seattle, inbound Tacoma Narrows airfield. Downtown Seattle can be seen below. Boeing 727-200F enroute Tacoma Narrows to Bella Coola, penetrating the couds on descent. The clouds are volumetric and since XEnviro 1.12, there are less artifacts. Looks quite nice, but it certainly impacts FPS. Especially when flying in the vicinity of overcast skies. On final approach to Bella Coola. There's no IFR-procedure into the airfield (...that I can get hold of) and the runways doesn't even have a VASI... Backlighting always adds some drama to a shot... Time to unload and head-off for the nearest bar. 1

Looks like the mouse cursor appears randomly, I was able to run the game without this issue several times. Another strange thing I'm getting is stutters. Overall, the game runs pretty smooth even in towns but every 5 or 10 minutes it just freezes for several seconds.

AndyJWest Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Trying out a new X-Plane Mossie in the Norwegian fjords. After a very hairy takeoff, I was expecting it to be tricky to land. Wasn't that bad though.

Bremspropeller Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 (edited) Making use of the excellent (well, for it's time anyway) short field performance of the 727, I took her out of Bella Bella airfield (3700ft) on one of the thousands of islands of British Columbia over the Rockies into Calgary, Alberta. The aircraft cruises very nicely at .78 Mach, sipping only about 2,200lbs of fuel per engine per hour at FL350. Speed her up and she gets thirsty! A couple of miles before crossing Banff, I pulled the throttles to idle and we're descending quickly into a dusk sky over the plains of Alberta. If you can see it at cruise, you can land on it in a 727. Or so they say... Flaps 2 and turning final onto the localizer of RWY 17L. I really like the atmosphere that xEnviro creates. Flaps 15 and inboard + outboard landing lights on. Gear down, three green, Flaps 30, spoilers armed and autobrakes on min (14000ft of runway ahead). The Rockies do create a very nice backdrop against the post-sunset western skies. Taxiing in. The backlit couds do look great. At the gate. After shutdown, we de-plane via the rear airstair. Instead of heading to the bar, we'll have a post flight drink at the next Tim Horton's tonight. See you guys soon... Edited November 16, 2019 by Bremspropeller 1

Semor76 Posted November 19, 2019 Posted November 19, 2019 Playing WoW sometimes. Even if I dont like the MMOG style, it can be very funny and the 3D modelling is still outstanding.(the damage modell not so..) On the other hand, when it comes to surface vessels, WoW is the only modern Marine style gaming title on the market. Which is a truly shame... Love the dreadnought class behemoths! Kaiser Class S.M.S. König Albert Gangut Class: IJN Kawachi Class:
Tyberan Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 I feel the same about wows. The models are excellent and so is the water etc. the gameplay is fine as well but I hate the fact it's PvP and the grind. Be good if there was a proper single player game like it, but more realistic.
