This was their response, so it seems they are now verifying BoS does not correctly support WMR and other non Vive or Oculus HMDs. It also indicates they have no immediate intention of fixing it. Very disappointing to be honest. Hi, If Windows Mixed Reality is included in the game, information about it will be published on the site. Looking at your quote here, "If WIndows Mixed Reality is included in the game"... thats not what we want. We're not asking for WMR native support, we just want the openvr/SteamVR implementation to actually work... Edit: I've now also received a reply to my support ticket from weeks ago, exactly the same as ICDP received. Edited March 21, 2018 by Aloha-Snackbar
ICDP Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 I have already replied to their response that WMR devices use OpenVR/SteamVR and it works perfectly in other Steam VR games. 1
dburne Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 Hopefully everyone with these devices are submitting a support ticket, the more they hear from those I would think the better to get it some attention.

Can I submit a support ticket for flight in VR making me sick? I do have a Samsung, and the IPD issue is only one of two things keeping me from using it in this sim.

I did the same Its just frustrating that theyve clearly already done the vast majority of the work needed, as the only thing that doesnt seem right is the IPD... And a lot of other games (DCS for example) allow you to override the IPD anyway. It might be interesting to have some vive users see if the game is using correct IPD values when they change their IPD settings, or if its just hard coded somehow. 2 hours ago, engrish_major said: Can I submit a support ticket for flight in VR making me sick? I get a bit sick when i drop below 45 fps, and even at 45 its a bit rough sometimes. best is to keep 90.
ICDP Posted March 21, 2018 Posted March 21, 2018 I think the problem is the devs simply do not have access to a WMR device.
WIS-Redcoat Posted March 21, 2018 Author Posted March 21, 2018 Well I offered to give them my Odyssey back in November, but I think they were too busy to worry about it then. This really sucks though, as we all want better resolutions. I already bought the Vive pro and it probably won't work either (same lenses as Samsung). So now I will most likely have to keep it in a box for several months because I can't have both the Rift and the Vive plugged into the computer. Obviously I think that they really need to spend a few hours of dev time looking at this. The issue will only become more important with time.

At the time I assumed they would have fixed it by now and I wanted this guy to fly with the rest of our group. 2. I found the Samsung resolution to look great, but the "inside out" tracking was less than desirable and the fit of the goggles to the face was far more "loose" than the Rift 3. WMR works with steam... barely. Edited March 21, 2018 by WIS-Redcoat 1

It really was the roll axis that triggered it badly.
72AG_Melnik Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Wrote to Jason at 7th March, still no response Dear Jason! The community knows that all your team is very busy with Kuban, but please could you pay attention to one problem here and give us the official feedback. The thing is, the full Windows Mixed Reality VR headsets line(Samsung Odyssey, Lenovo Explorer, Acer, HP, Dell, Asus) work incorrect, namely, use wrong scale inside the game. Due to this, so-called the "giant head" or "RC model" effect arises, when everything around seems to be smaller 2 or 3 times that it should be in real life. The IPD parameter(virtual pilot interpupillary distance set in game) has the main influence on the game scale. Somehow the IPD parameter in Il-2 is strictly based on helm resolution. May be my hunches are wrong, but the fact is - this parameter is locked and equal approx. 13 cm instead of 6.8cm. This is more concrete post on the forum https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/32232-samsung-odyssey/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-544631 The VR support was brought into Il-2 at 11 April 2017, so all WMR VR helm line wasn't in sale yet and Il-2 developers attached to Oculus and HTC resolution, but now in WMR line it is higher in 1.5-2 times. I tested other games and aviasimulators - everything was correct there with scale. Seems it is just needed to deattach or unblock the IPD parameter in the game, because changing from 0.13 to 0.068 "or_ipd" in "startup.cfg" file now changes nothing unfortunately. I bought helm specially for Il-2 and I don't play any other games - I am very dissapointed that it doen't work properly after month helm delivery waiting. I see such great work to implement and realise VR experience into this game - graphics, flying sensation, real cockpit presence effect and cannot fly due to the engine goes out from my nose and wings from my ears. This problem isn't being solved for practically half a year(from November). And the tech support doesn't give a proper answer. Many people don't know to sell their helm or to wait. I even can give my helm for tests, but unfortunately I am from Saint-Petersburg and developers are from Moscow. I'm looking forward to hearing from you, best regards! Skv_Gunner 1 5
Aloha-Snackbar Posted March 23, 2018 Posted March 23, 2018 Very generous of you to offer your headset, skv_gunner!
chiliwili69 Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 Thank you skv_gunner for offering your VR device and writing that message to Jason. It is a clear and reasonable message. Don´t worry if you are in SaintPetersburg. I can paid if needed for the courier to Moscow.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 Maybe post this in General Discussion, and also on the Russian forums. I will be travelling between St Peterburg and Moskwa in July, but that's a long time until then. I believe you guys can get this done earlier, if you just try hard enough for them to notice.
guidom Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) Recently received the Samsung Odyssey and have been impressed with it so far, much more comfortable on my head than the Rift which I had previously. The tinyness in IL2 was quite disconcerting but thanks to this great forum thread and the lefuneste 3dmigoto mod I have got it running comfortably in no time. I set the Global Shift Toggle to: x6 = 0.025, 0.0 which has proved the best for me. On 19/03/2018 at 7:17 PM, ClarkFable said: Instead of using the same perspective with a higher pixel density, it's like the game is treating the extra pixels as an extended field of view. This in essence creates a reverse cropping effect, where the perspective is zoomed out from original perspective ( 2160 x 1200) , so that the original perspective is just a subset of the new perspective (2880 x 1600). This is making things look really small (and screwing up the IPD). i have seen a similar issue in other indy VR games. This also makes sense and seems to explain the problem concisely. Avyx Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 (edited) I'm ready to pull the trigger on Samsung Odyssey What would you advice, guys ? Samsung Odyssey or Vive Pro ? Cons / pros - regarding software - hardware - controllers - trackers ? I do play 95 % flight sim Thank you It uses Steam VR, so anything on Steam will work. The only game I have a problem with is BoX, so if it is your main sim then Odyssey will not be perfect. I use (in order of use for VR) IL2 is at the bottom because it has the broken IPD. DCS Asseto Corsa Elite Dangerous Fallout 4 VR IL2 BoX Only IL2 BoX causes scaling problems out of this list of games (and many others I have tested). For Vive Pro vs Samsung Odyssey comparison check this professional review video from 35 minutes. Basically this guy clarifies what logic already indicates should be true, namely that the HTC Vive Pro and Samsung Odyssey have identical IQ and in fact he feels the Odyssey has reduced God Rays. Though by far the worse for God Rays is the Oculus CV1, my experience in Elite Dangerous on the CV1 was horrible. The Samsung and HTC Vive Pro have identical panels but the lenses are different. HTC kept original HTC Vive lenses and IMHO for the price they are aksing they should have upgraded the optics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPCEqzoxwdA The only area that would be a big advantage will be in tracking on HTC Vive Pro, though my experience on WMR tracking is that they are perfectly adequate. Avyx Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 So, i want to order the Vive Pro, but i never used VR before, and i don't know what else do I need ( for flight sim, only ) Do i have to order those, too ( HTC VIVE ) Tracker ? Controllers ? basisstation ? Thank you in advance
ICDP Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 You will need to order the full bundle that included controllers, base stations and lighthouses. I believe it should cost around $1100 for the full kit.
Avyx Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 I want to order only the Vive Pro glasses, they don't sell the full bundle yet And I thought, i could buy the tracker, from Vive
BeastyBaiter Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 It's my understanding you need the $800 headset + 2 lighthouses. I do not think you have to buy the controllers but could be wrong. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/HTC-Vive-Base-Station-pc/dp/B01M01B92P/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523216954&sr=8-2&keywords=vive+lighthouse Total price is $1070 ($800 + $135 + $135) + tax + shipping from amazon.

I am using one lighthouse. It works.. it isnt perfect, but good enough for sitting sims until 2.0 comes out.
WIS-Redcoat Posted April 9, 2018 Author Posted April 9, 2018 I wasn’t a previous vive user, and I wasn’t sure it was going to work; so I acquired only one lighthouse. Yes, it works. i don’t really want to spend $300 to get two controllers and two lighthouse since steam VR 2.0 tracking and the new vive pro controllers are expected to be Released “this year”.
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted April 11, 2018 Posted April 11, 2018 But it doesn't work, does it? I'm in Germany anyway, they don't sell to Europe...

This will put more pressure on the Oculus guys and Vive Pro sales. It is a shame it still doesn´t work properly with IL-2 VR.
1CGS Sneaksie Posted May 8, 2018 1CGS Posted May 8, 2018 Since the problem is incorrectly reported IPD (most likely doubled) we'll introduce a possible fix in the next update (the code will divide the IPD by two if it is too big for a human being, larger than 9 cm). Simply making the IPD entry in startup file editable isn't a good idea since it will break the IPD adjustment by a physical knob on an HMD. This is all we can do until Jason brings us an actual device. The next update should be released before the end of May. 6 3 4

coconut Posted May 8, 2018 Posted May 8, 2018 @Sneaksieyou could use an ipd modifier instead (0.5, 1.25...) instead. Have it set to 1.0 by default, then people with Odissey or other new devices can adjust it to what’s needed. 1

SCG_motoadve Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Is the Samsung Odyssey kind of the same as the Vive Pro? If yes, and IL2 BOS gets fixed and the Samsung works then I am returning my Vive Pro, cost a lot less.
