I just got home from work and tried the I-16 on the Kuban map and I can't help but break into song...

I'll meet you in the valley in my Rata

Come in your 109 and see my Rata

I'll shoot your @$$, and roll around,

And when you dive, I won't be found,

I'll meet you in the valley in my Rata!

This is usually on a plane by plane basis. To fix it:

Turn on the game with no head tracking on.

When in the cockpit, press numeric 5 to center.

Then press F10 to set the current view as default.

That's it!

Came to the pc again and got it fixed thanks to you!

Enjoy this pearl, my friend!!!

Awesome update!

Will the Kuban map get a little bit of optimization? I tried playing on it and the fps dropped insanely hard I can get over 100 fps over Stalingrad but on this map it's around 50-60 max with near ultra setting on my old pc

Keep up the good work what you did is amazing the updated flight models are amazing. :salute:

I've been playing IL2 since its first release in 2001. In my opinion it's the benchmark of excellence in terms of realism, graphics and customer support. I wish all software was this good. (and trouble free!) Best wishes to you all from us wannabe pilots here in the Allegheny Mountains of Somerset county Pennsylvania USA.

Wow those green fields look great, the only improvement to the screens I've seen that I could mention is higher def base ground textutes, maybe the improved shading and all those tree are going to help, but those green fields wow wow wow.   Looking good

thank you!  this is awesome!

Just flown around for an hour - and crashed in to the mountains... absolutely love the map. So much more to see. Cheers.

Actually nevermind about the fps drop I just realized it was only because there were so many players on the dogfight server xD

I just tried again and its smooth and the fps is high as hell :)

What an awesome map. I love the parallax effect with near and far mountains. The south-east feels like flying over the Himalayas. What a feeling. Love the plane's shadow on the runway. The animation of the sea is welcome. I can only imagine the difficulty coding this new map.

There's some serious flicker in the geometry where the clouds intersect the mountains. I had the clouds set to heavy and at the lowest altitude. The flicker disappears when you fly close up to problem areas. This is with my Vive, GTX1080Ti and Ultra settings.

I have been on the il2 BoX bandwagon from the start and it has been a very interesting journey.  Something of an eye-opener on what a dev needs to achieve at different time-frames (not necessarily what they would like to achieve given time and cost considerations) and to offer improvements as technology becomes available.  Big Kudos for keeping BOS and BOM in-line with current standards.  The refinement of the FM on the journey has been impressive just to name one aspect of the project.  Looking forward to the Pacific series.

Ground shadows on medium are bugging in VR, when you are on the runway and move your head around, they appear and reappear on the ground, and black fields of shadows of trees suddenly appear and disappear next to you, on Stalingrad map. And there is still no way to have the prop disk not render, as well as no setting to adjust object textures (lower them) in VR while playing on Ultra/4x for max rendering range.

The patch in total is absolutely awesome. I will buy the last two packages/planes I don't own yet as a thank you, P-40 and Yak-1B. Keep on going guys!

Tried another test on the Kuban map with my Rift, dropping presets to "High" from "Ultra".  Haven't digested all the reults yet, but I was pleasantly surprised to note that going to "High" did not display the "bubble of blur" on the Kuban map (whereas with 2.011 that bubble did re-appear on the other maps when dropping from Ultra to High).  Haven't tried with 2.012 on the other maps yet, but that's a huge improvement on the Kuban map.

Okay we must try it with High on the other maps as well. If that is true, it is indeed great.

The issue I see is however, rendering range on High is/was way too close.

We need some kind of VR setting... long rendering range like with Ultra/4x terrain, proper reflections without too much white, a contrast slider (!), detailed shadows at close range and in cockpit, ability to turn off propeller disk rendering for ASW, very simple shadows or none on other objects, medium resolution textures for other objects, and a sun that is not 8 times the size of the real sun because it was made for 2D and never intended for VR.

Then I can fly the Hs129 over Kuban's fields, land next to a cow and have a picknick.

I noticed that the AI can't successfully take off (on grass at least) in the HS129, ends up oversteering and spinning the tail end round - pretty much the same as what I've managed so far!

The sim looks stunning, running maxed out on Ultra, using DSR at 2.0 x 1920 x 1200, my 980Ti fans are on warp factor 2!  Kuban map looks awesome and the new shadow stuff is clearly using black magic or something on the trees, brilliant.

This map is a masterpiece... :o:  ...Fly over Novorossiysk is just a total pleasure ... the port, the sea, you can almost feel the spray ...No need plane to destroy or target to bomb ... just take a plane and do the tourists is just great ... for now I have been along the coast ... the sea is just magnificent..  .When I returned from work tomorrow, I would go for a ride to the mountains... in fact, this map is an advertisement financed by the Kuban tourist office ... ...thanks Dev Team...Just beautiful...

One thing i've noticed with the new shaders, is if you have the bomb window open in the Ju87 you can still see the shadows render on it as if it were there;

Just started download, going to be a slow process but what a gem awaits when it is done. Once again Bravo Zulu all debs and that Jason chappie.

The 109 doesn't have as much elevator authority as before, much harder to pull lead on a Yak. Which I think is good. However it's much more stable. Has anyone noticed the way the horizontal stab adjustment works now. I have mine bound to a key and if I hold it down for a long time and then let go, the stabilizer will keep adjusting until I reverse the motion with the opposite key press.

P40 definitely has improved.

Thank you - inspired me to buy Kuban - looking forward to checking it out - especially the p40 FMs!

Is the

being worked on? It hurts people with high latency in close end dogfights such as scissoring.

Also something I'd like to request: Lower opacity of tracer smoke particle trails, because they hide the tracers a bit too wlel and can be misleading

Awesome job, the new FM is great, tested the yak 1 and 109 F4 so far and it feels much, much better, i'm no longer scared of using the rudder, especially because i use the twist handle on the stick.

The shadows look really good too, congratulations on all the work!

I do not see changes listed for SpitfireV. So what I and most of the players imagined were correct. Spitfire already had the new FM

Fantastic update, the Kuban map is going to be great online once we get missions for it.

Cheers Devs  :good:

Looking forward to the new FM's.

Had a chance to fly a bit and really amazing update.  Shadows are a huge improvement and really give an immersion boost.  FMs are significantly improved, especially the P40 and stable 109s.  Question, why can you not engage enemy aircraft in mush of the mountain region?  Will this be added later?

OVERALL SCORE: 11

Fantastic map, fantastic FM updates, and fantastic Hs-129! :) Thanks devs!

Just wanted to post to say awesome job devs.

Had a few mins for a quick fly around the mountains and coast in my rift and it left me with mouth wide open, smiling, saying wow wow wow. The water is amazing, so much so I accidentally flew my duck into it trying to get closer. I might have taken the nickname too seriously ;p.

It's just so beautiful.

Well done.

I stand corrected on the above statement.   Was judging only by the screenshots, now that I've had a go at the actual game I'm very impressed.   This exceeded my expectations, the new Kuban map is amazing, the trees (the number of trees), the textures, the lighting, the old "il2" feeling is just amazing and with excellent FPS to boot, they nailed it with this one and it's only going to get better.   This is the new standard by which flight sims will be judged.

The HS 129 is amazing and in VR worth every penny, in VR this as close to real life that I've experienced in any sim to date.  Really feels cramped in with those engines on each side, very comfy and beautiful  throughout though and it feels heavy to fly.

For early access my jaw is on the floor, amazing job to the entire team.

I have put the shadows to ultra and I am at a solid 75 FPS on the ground and in the air in Kuban (1080Ti, i5-4690) @ 1080P, I just ordered an Oculus Rift     and am dying of anticipation to play this in VR.

Frost, I am in day 2 of Oculus and I am absolutely floored how good it is. Ordering Kuban today

^^ Frost and Katdog add me to the list, VR is what brought me back to IL2 BOS .  BOK in VR took was pretty good and blew the doors off, like you Frost I'm floored and amazed at what they accomplished with the new engine.

I've posted my first impressions and approximately 50 screenshots: https://stormbirds.wordpress.com/2017/08/29/kuban-map-first-impressions/

In short its a spectacular map and the subtle variations on the season changes are just really well done. The team should be extremely proud of this effort. It's a huge feature to have this map and the map team has outdone themselves in making this a reality.

In VR the running away from the chasing enemy into and then between the mountains is truly hands down the coolest epic experience! ... feels like some sort of a freaking Hollywood movie that I'm starring in...

Amazing, if the campaign matches this we're in for an even larger treat!

The way the ships move across the sea is good too, plus they're not easy to target (especially as a lone HS lol), and are quite deadly.

When was release again? :)

I'm not sure this is a bug, though I do think it looks a bit funny.

I don't think its a bug because I noticed the knob on the 109e7 canopy casts a shadow on the glass of the canopy. So, I think this is might be the intended effect, casting shadows on the glass. This is assuming the Ju87 has glass in that door, which I assume it does, since all references in a quick google refer to it as a window.

I do think the shadows on glass effect is a bit much, but I think that's a real nitpick- in general I'm astounded by these shadows. Both interior/on-your-plane shadows as well as those on the ground are really great. Ground shadows have already had a tactical impact for me, both helping me find my bombers while escorting as well as noticing a few too many planes in the vicinity.

November I think, but definitely by end of year. You are definitely right about the campaign. As a MP-only player, I'm really interested in the career. I didn't have the patience for the 1946 dynamic campaign as a kid, as much as I tried, but I think I could get a real kick out of trying to keep a pilot alive through the war as a more patient adult. Looking forward to checking it out.

Oh btw peeps, I'm planning to add the Kuban map to il2missionplanner.com tomorrow. Check out the mission planner thread in the 3rd party resources subforum for updates on that.

You are right as per picture below (No.8).

I haven't been able to try it yet myself. Is the wobbling issue gone? I'll try tonight myself and see if now I can finally fly the 109s.

109G2 handled fine, especially in vertical, easy hammerheads and high yoyos, no wobble, much more stable than before, rudder is much better.
