vanscov Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 (edited) Hey! Does it mean if I pre-order BOK, I can use the Spitfire on mission already? now? I don't need to wait to December for BOK? Edited July 22, 2017 by vanscov79
Bullets Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Spitfire is released and ready to fly for those who have pre-ordered BOK 1
ICDP Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 (edited) Hey ICDP could you please add invasion stripes as an option under markings ? Thanks! Hi Bullets. Check OP, I have added a new download for some invasion stripes layers. I made these deliberately hand painted looking, no nice straight perfect lines because I was going for the authentic look. 56RAF_Roblex Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 (edited) I hope you don't mind, but I bastardized one of them for personal use when I fly with 56 RAF 'Firebird' Squadron. I am not skilled enough to do skins but I am capable of adding things to an existing skin. Would you be willing to let me have an unnumbered version and the digits as my squad are asking if they can each have one with a different number and it has just taken me over an hour to construct a number '5' out of the existing number '3' I am not sure what else I can make out of bits of '3' :-) Edited September 12, 2017 by 56RAF_Roblex 1
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 ICDP, I started work on a skin today with this template using GIMP. I have used many of your templates since the 4Ks came about. We each get a little better at the things we do each time we do it, you with your templates and normalmaps and hopefully, skinners making use of them. I just had to say that this is the best one you have produced. Not just attention to detail, but the very organization of the template. Well done. You have really reset the bar to a new level. Thank you for your continued effort. 1
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 ICDP, I am pretty much done with a skin using GIMP. Just have one issue holding me up. When I produce the dds and check it in Viewer or the game, the metal of the struts are much lighter grey than the rest of the plane and are much lighter than other skins I have for the Spit, either 2k or 4k. They just don't look right. I have tried various things to correct it to no avail. I looked at the Alpha Layer but it looks fine as far as I can tell. Thoughts?
unreasonable Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 I have one strange issue with this template - having changed out the main paint colour for a PR version, I now have the foot-well behind the rudder pedals in the main outside colour instead of dark green. Not entirely sure where this area is represented in the file. It does not affect the external look, but still a bit jarring. If no-one knows I will be able to find out by trial and error changes - but if someone can save me an evening work I would be grateful!
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted September 20, 2017 Posted September 20, 2017 (edited) I knew that when importing PSD to GIMP that one of the first steps was to check Overlay layers. On this template it was also the Soft Light layers that would not show if in a Group. Once I moved them out of the group, they worked fine. It did not however solve my strut issue. Here's a comparison pic of the strut issue along with a black area I noticed when flaps are down. This black area is present on all 4K skins that I know of, including yours ICDP. On all the Official skins it show dark green. Should this be black? Top is Official Default skin, bottom is my WIP. Pic deleted EDIT: If you look at the flaps and wheel wells you will also notice I also seem to be missing the dark shading on the metal ribs and cross pieces. It's like there's shadowing to the parts from the Aircraft Parts layer missing. Maybe that's the heart of the whole issue. Edited September 22, 2017 by VBF-12_Stick-95
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted September 21, 2017 Posted September 21, 2017 (edited) For what it's worth, I think I found a work around for the strut issue. In the Alpha file I found a UC Struts layer. I copied this to my file right above the Aircraft Parts layer and reduced the opacity until I had the right shade. Still have no idea about the black hole. EDIT: resolved other issues. 71st_AH_Mastiff Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 that 4k skin looks way more detailed in the gear area.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted September 22, 2017 Posted September 22, 2017 (edited) I don't see an official pinned thread for Spitfire custom skins so I'll post mine here. The basis of my skin is Spit Registration EP495. EP495 was part of the fourth order for 904 Spitfire Mk Vs Dated 23 August 1941, which included a run of registration numbers EP485 to EP523. The fourth order received first delivery of EN763 on 26 April 1942 and last of ER199 on 4 September 1942. I took the liberty of adding the Guards Badge. Unfortunately I have no squad ID number. EDIT: Sorry about the delay. Details, details... Pretty sure that picture was taken in Abadan - sandy/gravel ground with a rock as a chock... anyway that is what the caption to that photo say when I search for it. I have been struggling to decide what these Spitfires would have looked like in detail since they star in my current movie project. I have no doubt about the basic W.Europe green/grey and duck band and spinner, but the photo you show seems to have no yellow wing stripe, or red patches - or even outer MG ports come to that. In contrast, the other Abadan Soviet Spitfires picture has both, IMHO. Maybe different batches? https://www.google.co.th/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fi60.fastpic.ru%2Fbig%2F2013%2F1029%2Fa3%2F880d7fe8f924f7f6099016813b4fd2a3.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fsurvincity.com%2F2012%2F02%2Frussian-fighter-aces-on-the-lend-lease-part-4%2F&docid=VsThf8B5PvJIMM&tbnid=I_cxx7xFUrT9wM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwiBp47Ro7zWAhXLE7wKHeweBScQMwgrKAcwBw..i&w=800&h=557&bih=862&biw=1745&q=russian%20spitfire%20lf%20mk%209&ved=0ahUKEwiBp47Ro7zWAhXLE7wKHeweBScQMwgrKAcwBw&iact=mrc&uact=8 Edited September 23, 2017 by unreasonable
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted September 24, 2017 Posted September 24, 2017 Thanks Zami.Unreasonable, your source is probably right, the photo from the Internet I posted of EP495 stated it was in England but I had my doubts. For my skin of EP495, I did find the following additional info:Serial Mark c/n Fac Eng History EP495 Vb CBAF M46 9MU 21-6-42 222MU 6-11-42 City of Lille 8-12-42 USSR 16-2-43 CBAF is Castle Bromwich Aeroplane Factory.I assume 21-6-42 is the original transfer date to a Maintenance Unit and that 16-2-43 is the date of transfer to the VVS.Source:http://www.airhistory.org.uk/spitfire/p039.htmlAs far as the photo of EP495, I didn't see the yellow stripe on the leading edge either. I also had issues discerning the red patches or even MGs ports however I found it hard to believe MGs would be absent therefore the logical conclusion was the ports were present, masked with the solid red patch making the MG port no longer a "hole" and that the red was hard to see due to the angle, coloration, lighting, picture quality, etc. Just my deduction.I have seen an actual pic of Spit 538 (is there only one?) reg EP210, which was a slightly earlier batch EP164-213 of the same order as EP495 and a CBAF plane. There is no way to tell from the photo I have of what is on the wings. Models and skins of this plane are rendered both with and without the yellow stripe however the IL-2 Official 538 skin does not have the yellow stripe.Your link for Spit BM185(6?), which was from a batch from an order in October 1940 definitely had the red patches and apparently the yellow stripe. Other planes in the row, e.g. reg AD236, do not show the wings and are from earlier orders and may be painted with both. Thanks for the comments. Good luck with the movie!Cheers! 1
unreasonable Posted September 25, 2017 Posted September 25, 2017 Thanks Stick. 90% finished now, should be about by end of October (I am that slow ). I am sure your are right about the dates - that conforms to what the airforce.ru article says. For anyone who has not read it http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/spit/ The official 538 skin does have the huge yellow arrow down the side though - how anyone deduces that from the 538 photo is beyond me, so my Spits do not have it. More importantly I think it looks vulgar.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted September 26, 2017 Posted September 26, 2017 Unreasonable, I forgot to include this source for Spitfire orders, which includes dates and registration series numbers. http://www.angelfire.com/sd2/spitfirefactory/production.htm 1

Montana_*VR* Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Hey there First many thanks to @ICDP for this brilliant template! I made a skin of the Spitfire Mk Vb from Robert Stanford Tuck. Wing Commander Robert Roland Stanford Tuck, DSO, DFC & Two Bars, AFC (1 July 1916 – 5 May 1987) was a British fighter pilot, flying ace and test pilot. Tuck joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1935 and first engaged in combat during the Battle of France, over Dunkirk, claiming his first victories. In September 1940 he was promoted to squadron leader and commanded a Hawker Hurricane squadron. In 1941–1942, Tuck participated in fighter sweeps over northern France. On 28 January 1942, he was hit by anti-aircraft fire, was forced to land in France, and was taken prisoner. At the time of his capture, Tuck had claimed 29 enemy aircraft destroyed, two shared destroyed, six probably destroyed, six damaged and one shared damaged. Sadly I'm not allowed to use the image integration tool so here's a screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hic1nuqbwrrvbkp/Spitfire-mk-v-Robert-Stanford-Tuck.jpg?dl=0 DOWNLOAD SKIN (.dds) Hope you like it See you in the sky! 2
Black-Witch Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 ICDP, please, is it possible that you could make the RAF Squadron letters? in "Sky" colour. Thanks in advance (hoping). I need to do some more work on the (your) Spitfire for my Squadron. Witch
RNAS10_Oliver Posted June 3, 2018 Posted June 3, 2018 cheers for the template Spoiler http://allspitfirepilots.org/aircraft/search?serial=NX924&model=Seafire-Ib&factory=AST&engine=M45¬es=736 http://allspitfirepilots.org/aircraft/search?serial=NX890&model=Seafire-Ib&factory=AST&engine=M45¬es=736 Is there any reason that the "paint variations" layer does not cover the rudder, though the other control surfaces including both elevators are treated with that layer?
