Welcome to Discussion About VR and VR Controllers

I am not a tester, but I understand that SLI with the Rift is not supported in any game.

I believe the ball on that is with Nvidia from what I understand, but could be wrong...

VR is looking absolutey amazing in BOS!

I am running on Ultra settings and maintaining 90 fps most of the time.

Performance is very smooth, and solid for me in the Rift with a Pixel Density setting of 1.8.

No stutters/judders whatsoever.

Nice job on the VR Zoom as well, thank you for getting this in.

The Yak-1 Cockpit is gorgeous, instruments look fantastic.

Tomorrow I will have much more spare time to really ring this beauty out in VR.

Splendid job on this implementation Devs!

How does the horizon look?  Any shimmering?  Is nVidiaInspector 2X Sparse Grid Supersampling still needed to avoid this?  I know this can cause a big fps hit.

EDIT:  Damn I want VR.

If there is any shimmering, I am not seeing it. It looks very good to me.

Only using the in-game settings, not the Nvidia control panel.

I'm running a 980ti and I7 6700k

HTC Vive,

Ultra settings with Dynamic res set to .7

supersampling in steam vr app set to 1.2

AA on max, sharpening on.

Windowed mode.

Getting 70ish with HUD on, solid 90 with HUD off.  Works great.

currently my only pet peave is the clunk sound of my head hitting the windows... please remove or allow an option to remove this sound.

real opportunity with the tail gunner positions is there to create something truley spectacular for roomscale VR and handsets... could be really cool if they can refine it and allow full body movement in a turret and holding the gun with the handsets.

So im really throwing about the idea to run out and buy myself the Vive. My questions are, is it worth it? and how is the resolution?

A question, if I may: is the movement of your head always 1:1 with what you see, or can it be adjusted so slighter real head movements equal more head movement in the VR?

I have a neck injury that does not permit me to whip my around, lest I get unpleasantly dizzy and headachy.

Thank you.

Is that non-negotiable?

No but you can change the way you fly for example if you are not able to turn your head far enough change curse of your plane so you dont have to turn that far.

I always wondered what the writing on the side of some of those Russian aircraft said.

True.

I guess I could just fly for fun too, and not actually scrap with anyone. Often enough I'm happy just flying around.

Thanks

I still can't get over how great this sim looks in VR!

I am truly amazed with every flight I take now.

I am playing through the Stalingrad campaign, as I never played it after the sim was released. And I am having a lot of fun flying the Yak-1.

Have progressed into Chapter 2 now, and the scenery is just breathtaking.

Performance for me is still stellar with everything mostly maxed out, even with a lot of action going on around me.

Hard to believe they have managed to pull this off to where it looks this good in VR.

I already have several hours in this since last Tuesday, and am certainly in for many more as well.

This damn BOX made me buy a Rift! And

I don't regret it 1 single second. It's absolutely a complete game changer, pretty difficult to put words on it.

1 thing that struck me, but I dont' know if that is placebo or not, it's the feeling of speed and acceleration.

I first tested La5, then Mig3 then Ishak.

Then I jumped into a F4..... and what a beast it feels! I don't know why, but it's like the F4 is on steroid compared to others. The thin (cramped?) pit combined with high speed, directly after take off, you know you are in a special monster. Like everything with VR, I've a hard time explaining the how and why, but that was what struck me. It's like you have a way better sense of speed and acceleration, which outlines the planes differences.

Anyone else feeling the same with the F4? (the only other fighter I didn't test yet is the Yak)

Also, dat feeling when you land and stop your plane, and your brain tells your body "you should feel the deceleration and the sudden stop NOW!", very very weird but awesome feeling.

I got the same with low level hover in DCS chopper first time I boot up VR, but that disapeared after a few times in the Mi8, not so with stopping a BOx plane, I still get this stopping impression after a lot of landings.

Amazing implementation, devs!

One thing I wonder about.  My understanding is there is a focal area near the middle and more blurred in the peripheral areas.  When using VR however is the FOV somewhat restricted (binocular view) or don't you notice the edge of peripheral vision?

Binocular view - FOV currently is 110 degrees.

Of course being able to move head and see the whole world around one kind of forgets that a little bit...

There are a couple of threads about issues with using TrackIR with the MS FFB2 joystick.  I was wondering if anyone with VR is using this joystick and if they are encountering the same related stuttering issues as well or does VR head tracking play well with this joystick.

I had issues with TIR and FFB2. I have not noticed the same issues in game with VR (Vive).

+1...FFB2 ..no issues with Rift.

I am pretty sure BoS in VR is more realistic than I even imagined.

Started Part 2 of the Stalingrad Campaign over the snow covered landscape, and pretty sure temp in my office is like 20 degrees cooler now - got a chill in the air...

As real as it gets!

;)

This is what I was waiting for.

Just bought BOM Deluxe because of the VR. I wasn't concerned about having not seen it first. I could tell it was going to be good by the descriptions of others who where obviously VR users and being a long time simmer, I am familiar with 777 and 1C's work. Fracking Awesome! Solid work devs. Best VR in a flight sim yet. Great sense of flight  Easy to read gauges.

With BOM, Dirt Rally, Elite Dangerous and Doom3 Fully Possessed, I may never be seen again, in the real world. HeHe

Im thinking of buying vr goggles for il2, have used all kind of tir5/ed tracker/diy motion trackers, so vr is new to me.

Mostly wondering that should i wait next year and new models and stuffs, if there would come nice 2k screens with good hz, instead current 1-1.4k ones.

There is now couple days left on sale for oculus rift for 399€, so just wondering should i grab that, or wait some months..

At this time I would go for the Rift.

The price is great, and a full generation 2 device is probably a couple years away.

The Rift just works, and very well, out of the box.

Be sure and run the Oculus Compatibility checker from their website to make sure your system is up to the task.

Seems Pimax have some interesting goggles, 4k and 8k coming next year.

https://www.pimaxvr.com/en

Looking from youtube, seems though 50/50 likes/dont.

4k has had some issues, some have been able to get it to work properly. No positional tracking, some have gotten Track IR working with it and other work arounds.

8k = still work in development, original plan for production in January has been pushed out now to March. They have made a lot of promises that I suspect going to take some work to deliver, so I would not be surprised if there are more delays.

Note on both of these, 4K and 8K are just marketing names and do not relate to the actual image resolution. Certainly the resolution should be better though along with a much wider FOV. Going to take a lot of power though to run that new 8k in something like a combat flight simulator.

IMHO for the full VR experience that is most trouble free, Rift is still the way to go today especially due to it's lower price. Also if having a large room scale experience for other games is a goal, then the Vive has a slight advantage in that regard and should be considered.

Have read same, from true resolutions and problems to get them work. New chinese company that sells high promises, i pass.

But anyway, got rift, managed to get it work without problems and allso got il2 working, made test fly and that feeling, allmost fell from chair when doing barrer roll..

Resolution isnt best, but works like a charm, have to test more later and see how well can spot planes, coming from 4k screen is little step back :)

One problem i encountered, not big one, but still. When i start game, menu and "front" sight is little bit on right side, so when i spawn pöane, i have to reset view to get sight middle.

Congrats!

Yes nothing like that first feeling, I remember mine so well. Much of that feeling still remains even after all this time for me, I am just blown away in each and every flight with the immersiveness of the experience.

Regarding centering - assign VR re-center to a button on your stick, makes it easy and quick. I think much of how it is aligned is how your head is oriented when the game first launches. I normally only have to hit that button once when in cockpit, and it will remain good throughout all my flying session.

Don't forget VR zoom as well, you can assign it to a button also.

Mayby an odd question about Nvidia drivers. I always do a custom install of the driver and do not install the two 3dvision options. Should I install the 3dvision stuff or is it still irrelevant for an Oculus rift?

Thanks

No, it is not relevant to Oculus or VR.

I only ever install the actual Nvidia drivers and Phsyx. nothing else.
