I can say that it doesn't happen to all large caliber guns nor the light stuff. Which would lead you to think it was the latter of your possible root causes if that helps you?

Stuff gets put down all over the place for all sorts of reasons. At the moment I'm not sure if there is a simple error causing some guns tobe duplicated or somethingmore complex. I think it's the first since the guns always seem to be the same type

TheSNAFU Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 (edited) Played the newest version and noted a couple of things to share. I am flying p51’s with 352 out of LeCulot East. Good to see plenty of parked planes and AAA around the field again. However there is no camo netting or buildings anywhere at the field. Also no troops strolling around. I fly from cold start and there used to be camo netting along the taxi route with ground personnel walking about. Buildings were also present. Now none. Had an emergency landing in one mission at Antwerp and saw the same thing there. I didn’t see any smoke or fires on the ground, setting 3/75% Structures set to high. lastly 3 enemy planes chased me from the front lines all the way to base. They didn’t turn around at a particular spot like they had been. Fortunately AAA kept them at bay long enough for my to get my wounded bird on the ground. Hope this is helpful. Because I tried to make the 262 fighter experience a bit more interesting with some regular fighter and ground attack missions. Not strictly historical but hopefully a bit more fun. That meant trying to keep it closer to the front than it would have been historically. I might have to back off of that and just make it a separate bomber intercept only thing. Then I can put the unit further behind the lines. 1

I moved it from one airfield where it crashed to another concrete strip that was still too short but it got in the air using a bit of grass. That was the closest concrete airfield. Willing to take suggestions on location. Duesburg is one.

I know me and mine are always dissapointed to see the ahistoric corners cut like this, and the 262 is already so fast that the flight from the Rehine area isn't too much longer.

Hehe, speak for yourself, me and my ilk, we get bored very quickly but making a note which airfields are a-historic sounds like a perfect solution.

I have been working on the overlapping ground unit issue. Unfortunately, not at all a simple problem. I started with trying to determine how the overlap could happen. Too many different places to properly analyze by eyeball. Then I wrote verification and correction software. That worked but it was removing units that I did not want removed. Then I used the verification software to analyze what was overlapping what - back to step 1 but this time with software tools to help. That lead to a rewrite of ground unit battle positioning, modifications in truck convoy positioning, and finally modifications in AAA inclusion. The ground units are created in order of importance to the mission, so that allows for decision making if there is a conflict. After that I had no overlapping ground units. I still have the verification and removal of duplicates in the code but it is not being triggered anymore - good. Only problem was the battle location was not working, so I fixed that. Then I found an existing problem where a battle was not being generated where I really wanted one. Fixed that, only to find it cause a battle to be generated where I really could not have one. Fixed that too. This is what we refer to as a rabbit hole . Usually one stops and retreats, but there are some good fixes coming out of this process so forging forward is the right thing to do. The current version is probably better than the last, but I want to do more with it to make sure and correct as many oddities in placement as possible. On the other screens, most you can select the radio button for the squadron on the left, then going to the next or previous pages will show that squadrons info.

But I checked in an older campaign I had - and Spit XIV squadrons were available.. Strange.

The Tiffy is available nonetheless. I need to fix a config. @41Sqn_Riksen pointed out, the withdrawal date of the aircraft is wrong in the configs. Until then, 66 Squadron flies XIVs starting in November 1944.

I'm also very glad that you added the Typhoon, as I've been wanting to try it in a campaign. I found one issue while playing today, just after installing the newest update for the generator. It was in a mission that I was flying in the Typhoon, out of Deurne. I was preparing to land, and was cleared by the controller to do so, but I had to go around because my flight leader was landing from the other direction. If I had continued, we would have collided. What puzzles me is why I was not told that the runway was busy, like what happens normally.

I am guessing it is the landing MCU, which would have been active otherwise your AI flight mate would not have landed. He would have just circled over the last waypoint. If you were coming from one direction and the AI was landing in the other, maybe the tower Ai was expecting planes to land from that direction? Obviously, I'm guessing.

There is specialized code and configuration that has to be done in PWCG to make the codes work. That has not yet been done with the Typhoon. Until a bit earlier today i did not even know that the Typhoon supported codes. I have to do a patch this weekend and I can probably work in codes. I have to figure out which of the skins, if any, already have codes as part of the skin.

Can we have an option to set the units of measurement in Metric or Imperial (meters vs feet)? It doesn't have to be exact, an approximation would do, but it would be nice to view the PWCG side of things in imperial measurements as this is how I present the briefings to our squad prior to the missions. The airfields feel alive again with buildings and netting, ground personnel and enough vehicles, plane’s and AAA. Missions were very good. A patrol and ground attack in p51’s with 352 group. Plenty of action deadly AA and lots of ground targets. One observation was I still don’t see fires anywhere but perhaps there were no attacks to cause them. Default setting. Great work Pat. Can't promise that any time soon. The game works in metric so the data has to stay in that form. The fields are editable so it's not a display only thing - care would have to be taken to do conversions on any editable field. It's not that it's hard to do, but it's a potentially error prone process. Still - noted. 1
Highwayman Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 (edited) Hey Pat, Just for a little fun we've been enjoying some Flying Circus in between our main IL2 campaigns, but I've noticed that almost every mission generated has our aircraft taking off WITH the wind and not into it. Curious to know if this is intentional or purely co-incidental? Our landing direction (approach) always comes from the opposite of our take off with the default waypoints, so at least we will be landing into the wind, and I've noticed that all missions usually have this setup with the take off and approach being in the same direction. I may just be missing an SOP for wartime operations, but thought I'd bring it up. Edited June 6, 2021 by Highwayman
