What is the "tacticalCodeStyle" function?  Does it have anything to do with which line or section that gets selected from the tactical code sheet?

I believe it is the style of the typo. It has 2 kinds i think. Serif, San Serif, italic etc..

Please, does anyone know if it is possible to select on the PWCG json files the official skins? I am trying to get the official RAF Early, Late, D-Day skins for the Russian designed Hurricanes an Mkvbs without any marks, so i can be able to use the default tactical codes of each Squadrons. (1941 start)

Also, is there a way to avoid US ships on the channel before US enter the war? Russian ships as well. Doesn't the BON assets have any Royal Navy Brit ships? Does it change overtime?

Yes, you can assign any skin in the squadron.json.  Here's what I have for 403 Squadron RCAF:

"skins": [
        {
            "skinName": "SpitfireMkVb_4k_RAF_Early",
            "planeType": "spitfiremkvb",
            "startDate": "19390901",
            "endDate": "19410901",
            "country": "Britain",
            "category": "Configured",
            "definedInGame": true,
            "winter": false,
            "useTacticalCodes": true,
            "tacticalCodeColor": "SKY"
        },
{
            "skinName": "SpitfireMkVb_4k_RAF",
            "planeType": "spitfiremkvb",
            "startDate": "19410901",
            "endDate": "19420315",
            "country": "Britain",
            "category": "Configured",
            "definedInGame": true,
            "winter": false,
            "useTacticalCodes": true,
            "tacticalCodeColor": "SKY"
        },

{
            "skinName": "RAF_4k",
            "planeType": "spitfiremkixe",
            "startDate": "19420315",
            "endDate": "19440606",
            "country": "Britain",
            "category": "Configured",
            "definedInGame": true,
            "winter": false,
            "useTacticalCodes": true,
            "tacticalCodeColor": "SKY"
        },
{
            "skinName": "RAF_Invasion",
            "planeType": "spitfiremkixe",
            "startDate": "19440606",
            "endDate": "19440715",
            "country": "Britain",
            "category": "Configured",
            "definedInGame": true,
            "winter": false,
            "useTacticalCodes": true,
            "tacticalCodeColor": "SKY"
        },
{
            "skinName": "RAF_Invasion_Underside",
            "planeType": "spitfiremkixe",
            "startDate": "19440715",
            "endDate": "19441101",
            "country": "Britain",
            "category": "Configured",
            "definedInGame": true,
            "winter": false,
            "useTacticalCodes": true,
            "tacticalCodeColor": "SKY"
        },
{
            "skinName": "RAF_4k",
            "planeType": "spitfiremkixe",
            "startDate": "19441101",
            "endDate": "19450501",
            "country": "Britain",
            "category": "Configured",
            "definedInGame": true,
            "winter": false,
            "useTacticalCodes": true,
            "tacticalCodeColor": "SKY"
        }
    ]
}

I don't think you can change the ships because it appears that multiple countries are using the same ship models and changing the start date on them would eliminate all.

Thank you very much @czech693, but how did you find these skins and its correct spelling? I used the Viewer.exe and i could not find those skin_names_format_4bove.

I'll check again just in case.

Those skins are not in the default sim.  They are from a 4k mod.

Do a search for 4k spitfire skins.

If you can't find it, the default image names:  early MkVb is spitfirevb_blank_01 and the late MkVb is spitfirevb_blank_02.   And for the MkIXe, spitfiremkixe_blank_02.  The default images have a more weathered look than the mod skins.

Quick question, I imagine the answer is hiding somewhere right under my nose.

I'm doing a coop campaign with some friends, and I was wondering how to change what aircraft our squadron flies *permanently*. I find myself constantly using the equipment request function after every mission to switch to 190s because the 190s I ordered previously disappear and I'm back to having purely 109s.

Any help?

You can't quite do it completely.  You can change the arch type that you have by editing the squadron files (i.e. 109 to 190) but you cannot specify the specific type.  Any edits of core PWCG files are unsupported by yours truly, so it is do it at your own risk.

The risk of editing the json files is not really all that great though, so just make a backup of the data directory and go for it.  All of your campaign generated artifacts are separated out in the user directory, so the data directory can be edited and then replaced with a backup if it all goes wrong.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask.

Are the airfields you fly from in PWCG more alive with activity like soldiers walking around and more ground activity?

I know when I fly AQMB in stock game it has objects with soldiers at the airfields but regular QMB doesn’t. I was curious what it’s like in PWCG?

Thanks in advance! - jg123410

Good question.

PWCG puts stuff around the airfield.  AAA, static planes and vehicles, and random stuff.  Usually not in the middle of the runway :)I am not aware of how to add people walking around.

Thanks @PatrickAWlson

I am going have to give PWCG a try. Thanks for all the effort!!

Regarding people walking around, this is my understanding from the ME manual (below). Maybe the objects on your airfields already include some of these, so maybe we are in luck 😀

The ME manual says the following:

Possible bugs.

playing a campaign set in the Kuban.

1) 4 pilots in the flight including two controlled by AI which spawn behind.  The AI takes off straight through the front player aircraft.

2) The squadron is nominally equipped with Bf109G6, but nearly always Bf109G4 and 2 versions are allocated probably as there are not enough G6s.  By default it allocated the G2 to lesser ranked pilots including players even though the G2 is not selected as a flyable plane in the planes available settings.  This can be corrected manually but a bit annoying.

regards

In the PWCG mod how to prevent our wingmen from dying and how to make them reap more victories ( I want to create experten )

How to prevent wingmen form dying: cover them.  Doesn't always work but it helps.

How to jack up wingmen's scores: underclaim.  PWCG will not give you credit for unclaimed victories, but it will give those victories to your wingmen on the mission.  Since scoring victories improves your wingman's AI level it will help make them better.

To follow up on what @PatrickAWlson says above, here are a couple of my old posts regarding that subject - bottom line it can be done and is rewarding when achieved:

How to mod the PWCG mod to be able to display 30 years in the top Aces tab and increase the number of missions to move up in rank (being a major with only 1 and a half years of flying is quite unrealistic)

I think I just shot down johnnie johnson with my rookie pilot in December '41. I shot down a Spitfire that was pretty confident in head ons but was trying to run as soon as I hit her once. Johnson is in no roster anymore. On the other side some other Spit or Hurricane flew into my 109 when I was trying to shake him killing my 20 Sorties/27 Victories  ace.

Unfortunately I did not record a track because recording a track is killing my fps from 144fps to 40 or so and I have enable the fog of war thingy.

That was it actually. just wanted to share. 🙂 Love the little head canon this tool brings

Pat, thank you for your inclusion of a late Battle of Britain in 1941.

Question: with the new aircraft announced for Odesa including the and-109E4, would you consider expanding the Battle of Britain career content? It would be awesome to have specialized missions for the Battle of Britain like “cover shipping”, naval reconnaissance (also for the channel battle), “naval mine laying” (a stretch but basically dropping bombs into the ocean could substitué mines?)

PWCG shines the best with the Normandy Map. Even for late war it would be awesome to see v-1 intercept missions too!

I could look into some of the mission types.  I'm afraid BoB will still have to be 1941 as the British fighters, especially the cannon armed Spitfire, are too advanced for 1940 and the new plane set doesn't really help much.  During Dunkirk the patrol missions are effectively "cover shipping".  You don't really fly directly over the ships as much as deny the Germans the ability to attack them.

What would naval recon look like and who would perform it?  I suspect, given the plane set, that would fall to A-20s.  I do have anti shipping missions  for the Germans in the faux 1941 BoB and for the British in 1942.

Hi Pat, recently bought the Battle of Moscow DLC and I find that there is a lack of experts so I would like to add others (Gordon Gollo, Günther Lützow, Werners Molders, Adolf Galland) but I don't know how to do it, could you show me how to do this ?

The aces are just JSON files.  Look in <PWCG Install>\BoSData\Input\Aces for examples.

The JSON is almost self explanatory.  A couple of notes:

Squadron assignment.   The date value is the start date.  Squadron id = -1 in means the ace is inactive at that time.  For other squadron Ids you should look in <PWCG Install>\BoSData\Input\Squadron.  Open the Squadron file and look up the id.

Ranks: 4 is the lowest rank and 0 is highest.  For German pilots:
0 =  Major

1 = Hauptman

2 = OberLeutnant

3 = Leutnant

4 = Oberfeldwebel
