God I wish that was the Mustang we were getting, but the B/C will do

I'm surprised apparently so few technical drawings of the Malcolm hood are accessible? I was under the impression that the Mustang series was one of the most well documented airplanes out there. Hope it can be found as the bird cage seems awkward, especially as it won't slide back like on the P-47

It is actually the same canopy as on the Spitfire, manufactured by R Malcolm & Co.

Interesting question for a native german ? Seems like the family name stems from the north. He himself apparently was from Berkshire, at least that is what the wiki entry suggests.

I guess another northern variant of the name, with identical origin would be the name McCallum?

Malcolm Name Meaning
Scottish: from the Gaelic personal name Maol-Choluim ‘devotee of (Saint) Columba’ (see Colomb). Irish (Ulster): Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Maolcholuim ‘descendant of the devotee of St. Columba’ (Irish Colum Cille, literally ‘dove of the church’). In Ireland the personal name is often spelled Colm; in Scotland it has become Calum.

That 2nd one is XP-51B, they were also testing 2x40mm and 4x37mm options, now that would be popular modifications, 51 with thouse options would be hit in video games.

Purely based on weapon inaccuracies.

I'd gladly take the 2 40mm!

Wish there was an option to take empty guns. I'd have more speed after ground attacking.

Throw in an A-36 for good measure. Dive-bombing in a Mustang-a-like would confuse the hell out of the enemy.

Same here, I wanted to say how happy I am that we are getting the Malcolm hood and how nice the P 51 indeed looks but no way.

Many thanks for nothing to those who kept bragging unnecessarily.

Have a nice day.

Poor old Jason. I do feel a little bad for him for everything he has to endure. He tries to make a quality product, and then he gets all this nonsense from fools who think they are experts that know more than anyone else.

I was disappointed the thread was locked before I could add my compliments also. So many make mention of the idea that the P-51 has been done in sims so often in the past. Maybe so. But it's never been done to the degree current generation flight sims are capable of. That's true of every other aircraft we have flown in the past, that we fly now and hope to fly in the future.

The coming B/C model has (to my knowledge) never been done accurately in a combat sim. The old IL-2 version was a hackneyed slapped together presentation that did not portray the airframe or flight model accurately. The pictures shown of this new one look spot on. As does the D we currently have. The Mustang we have now feels very much like the P-51 we've all read about. It feels fast, responsive and does what I want it to do when I want to do it. Is it perfection? Probably not. But it is very, very good. When it was in it's late beta stage testing, Jason made the a comment in a DD that we wouldn't be disappointed in it. Personally I haven't been. I don't have lesser expectations for the coming B/C model, either visually or flight model wise.

I hope those whose disappointment at not seeing their own particular favorite airplane or wanted improvement mentioned regularly in the DDs, won't lose sight of how fortunate we are with the near weekly progress updates we get. A lot of us have been around this hobby since the 1980s. Some before then likely. It's easy to forget how little information was available back then. If one was lucky, there might be a featured story in a gaming magazine once in a while about a flight sim that was in development. Then nothing more was heard for months, even years, if at all. That's why for me, when a topic gets locked, I find frustration at the loss of further information because someone else pushed an argument or opinion too far. There are some truly well read and knowledgeable posters here. Many who know far more than I'll ever know. Sadly though, there are too many who only think they have all the answers who continually screw it up for the rest of us when an interesting topic is discussed. For those types, I hope you'll refer to this section more frequently -

@Jason_Williams is pretty used to this. He knows the silent majority got his back.

For what's it worth, it all come down to passion. It can go both ways.

But indeed the .50 cal's has been brought up endlessly. I do understand Jason get fed up.

Some, like me in the passed did believe he made this sim just to please themselves.

I kind of understand now, that one have to find own ways to enjoy any sim. And focus on that.

The complaints forum should be a place to voice concerns but those consistently get derailed by those that seem obsessed at trolling any and all feedback they don't like, especially lately.   It also doesn't help when supposed moderators pile on and troll those they disagree with instead of staying neutral and actually moderating. Neither side is blameless here. Was there a better way for those upset with the current state of the DM to voice their concerns besides hijacking the DD update post yesterday, most definitely there was! But lets not pretend, both sides aren't feeding into what is becoming a very toxic environment on these forums which is unfortunate.  Hopefully a dedicated community manager can be found eventually that can bridge the gap between us the customers and the dev team, I think that would go a long way in calming what can sometimes turn into heated issues.

By whom you refering to, they call us fanboys.

It is pretty much hopeless polarized debate. Not much will ever come out of it.

Like it is something important.

There are actually people devoting their full time fighting against peoples right to use face mask.

Pretty much this.

There isn't a debate to be had. BoBP has been out for 22 months and the ammunition on the American aircraft are factually incorrect, they are M2 ball, not M8 ball/incendiary. I'll go one step further, Stalingrad has been out for 8 years and the VVS still don't have 20mm API Shvak rounds.

The only people "debating" these facts have a certain interest in keeping things the way they are for their own benefit at the expense of everyone elses gaming experience.

We paid good money for this, to have entirely half of the games aircraft be hamstrung by incorrect ammunition is wholly unacceptable.

Whatever. How is any of this related to the Dev Diary? Why isn't the answer the Devs have given you many times already clear enough? Why do you insist on bringing this up over and over again ad nauseam in unrelated threads? Why do you have to ruin the forums for those of us who couldn't care less for your 50cal and just want to read all the info and additional comments by the Devs that usually come with a DD?

Keep spamming the Complaints section if you like, that's what it's made for. But please keep your trolling out of the rest of the forums. It's annoying as hell.

Might I also add that this long lived thread has been known for its general sense of levity and silly humor? I sometimes look forward to reading some posters' comments on an anticipated DD release as much the actual DD.

It's hard to imagine an F-6A still being flown in the ETO during the invasion period.
