ST_Catchov Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 I like to kick back and chill at xmas time with a nice cuppa. You know, relax. Put somethin' nice on the gramophone and reflect. Let us end all wars forever. We can do it. We are better than that. Let peace and love prosper for all mankind regardless of race, creed, colour, gender, gay or straight whatever except my ex. (yeah you! reading this b*tch!). Let's just get along people. C'mon!
Wardog5711 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) I spend most of my time listening to 90's-early 2000's rock these days. Earshot was one of my favorites.... Tyketo was another favorite from back in the day. Edited December 24, 2024 by Wardog5711
Davesax1965 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 (edited) Just noticed this thread.😉 I'm a musician, multi instrumentalist, has been playing since I was 10. (And I'm now 59, good God.😉) Sax, flute, guitar, bass, percussion, keyboards. A few years ago, I decided I wanted a modular synthesizer - think Bob Moog / early Tangerine Dream. Since I didn't have the money to buy one, or buy pre made modules to assemble one, I got out the soldering iron and taught myself electronics. After 4 years of weekend soldering in the garage, and about 40,000 components, the synth below took shape. It's still being expanded - might be one of the largest self built modular synths in the UK. Well. Everyone needs a hobby. If you're in to early Tangerine Dream, Hawkwind or progressive / Kraut rock in general, you might like the album below. There's plenty more. I've retired as a musician now, too many other things to do. https://brotherhoodofthemachine.bandcamp.com/album/trip-hazard It's being expanded with a DMX (lighting) controller to allow me to run a psychedelic light show off it as well. To be honest, I'm not sure why, I think I need to ask myself some fundamental questions about all of this.😉 Anyway. That's what I do. What do I listen to? Meanwhile, back in 1974..... the poor fellas did quite well, considering I have more equipment than they did.😉 Edited January 18 by Davesax1965 1
Zooropa_Fly Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Holy Cow ! That's gonna chew up most of your carbon credits. Well done though, looks like one hell of a rig. 1

Thanks, Zooropa ! Fortunately, the main cabinet only consumes 5 watts at full belt and the side cabinets - well, probably about the same. The main cost is to my sanity. And the neighbours as well. 😉 This is a tiny bit of the main system working.... it's almost impossible to control as it's so complicated. You alter one setting, it goes unpredictably crazy. Sometimes in a good way. Can't see me doing a live gig with it any time soon. 😉

Davesax1965 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 (edited) Ha ! Time and Unpredictable Oscillator Tuning in a Box Bedroom, more like. It's analogue. The oscillators (which generate the notes) are affected by heat plus general voltage drift within the synth. There are about 12 oscillators, so you have to permanently re-tune them to keep everything from sounding waaay wrong. All 70's technology here. There are 8 microcontrollers in there but the rest is very simple 70's microchip technology (TL series op amps, mainly.) Good job I didn't try and replicate an original Moog as a lot of them were transistor based - no integrated circuits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2tZlej1oOU Edited January 18 by Davesax1965

ST_Catchov Posted February 13 Posted February 13 It's good to know there's guys out there into Zep AND WW1 crates. A long time ago, I was reading stuff like No Parachute and Into The Blue and Sagittarius Rising and listening to 60's singles and being very innocent .... and then 1970 happened. BANG! Flashback. .... School athletic carnival. High school. 2nd year. 13 going on 14, sitting on the embankment with mates overlooking the second oval (the primary oval!) whereupon the carnival took place. Not really understanding why, but lusting after the girls, hurdling and high jumping and showing off and such. So, there was this guy in front of us with one of them new-fangled battery powered cassette players (remember them). All of a sudden, out of this thing comes the opening riff of Whole Lotta Love. My tiny adolescent mind blows as the full version plays out before morphing into What Is and What Should Never Be. I was still lusting, but I'd never heard anything like it. Zep became IT. Youngsters on this forum wouldn't get it. It's one of those 'you had to be there' things. Like all generations I guess, and it's always special despite dementia. Or perhaps because of it? A great opening track to a great album. So I hope, @PatrickAWlson, you make a PWCG Zeppelin campaign. And, to keep the musical theme to avoid trouble from Luke, another great opening track from Zep IV. 2 1
PatrickAWlson Posted February 13 Posted February 13 @ST_Catchov LZ has been my favorite bands since I was 14 years old. I'm over 60 today. Still haven't changed my mind. I really enjoy their live stuff, especially the earlier stuff (before Page got too deep into heroin and booze). Memories of going to the midnight showing of "The Song Remains The Same", which is still my "if I was on an island and could take only one record" record. 1

ST_Catchov Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Oh well. That's entertainment. This was when the British Invasion stopped.

ST_Catchov Posted April 22 Posted April 22 It's a sad day. RIP Clodagh. Let me take you back to another time, another place, before punk and hair metal ruined everything. 2
AndyJWest Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Some nice simple reggae. Cornershop's 2020 rework of this, from their album 'England is a Garden' is well worth a listen too. I'm not going to link it here, because of the track title: suffice to say, Tjinder Singh carries on the long-standing tradition of reappropriating language. On the same theme, though without the raw grit of the earlier reggae: 2 1
ST_Catchov Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Enough of that stuff! I want wholesome! Let's get this shack back on track! And for the jetsetters ....
ST_Catchov Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Due to popular demand. Pete and Kate. Inspirational. The 80's rule man! But then you can't go past these beauties from the 80's. Making up the trifecta of terrificness. Timeless ballads. In good taste. It almost makes you cry.
ST_Catchov Posted June 20 Posted June 20 Sometimes I get sick of the 80's .... and often end up in the 70's.
