An absolute classic from another of my favourite bands... ''The Emerald'' from Thin Lizzy, it's a belter of a song!

I was a senior in High School when this was released in the US.
Still one of my favorites and on my nostalgia playlist.

My favourite Thin Lizzy song:

While Phil and Eric Bell do an amazing cover, I still think the Dubliners version is the definitive. Luke Kelly on vocals...

Lynyrd Skynyrd has always been a favorite of mine and The Last Rebel, Gary Rossington, has now passed on at the Blessed old age of 71.

RIP.

You know that when you are watching something “retro”, and you realize that when you first came upon it, it was considered retro, and nostalgic, and reunion-ish, at the time, all those years ago? Wisdom is good, but age kinda sucks.

Believe it or not, this is 350  years old music........

@SYN_Ricky - Nice message... no doubt a nod to the original "Love is the message" in a new age jazz sort of way.

But as Christopher Lambert in the The Highlander says  "There can be only one".

MFSB/Salsoul Orchestra's "Love is the message" is the one true "Love is the message" (At least for me!) ...especially the Danny Krivit re-edit. (Ok so there's more than one! )

MFSB & Salsoul Orchestra at their very finest... c. 1973 i think, not sure what year Mr K did the re-edit. Have it in my vinyl collection but too lazy to dig it out!

Anyway, if you can't tap your foot to this, well it must be broken! ;)

Never heard it before, thx for pointing it out to me. And there's no way I won't tap my feet to this!

A belated story of the joys of Christmas. A sentimental journey into love, relationships, regrets and the human condition.

Every F***ING year that song gets trotted out here for about six weeks. I like to remind my fellow Irish people that it never made number one in the UK, that honour went to the Pet Shop Boys, with "always on my mind". Which is probably why I'm never invited out for drinks, ?

Every F***ING year that song gets trotted

Sometimes, when I get cranky, I ride me horse into town and get me a bottle of Jamesons. I'll wave to Missus O'leary on the way back as I take a swig and wish her a top o' the mornin'. Then another swig. By this time, I'm in the mood for some traditional Irish folk music.

So I gets to me house which is just a shack really and head to the music room. It's the only room actually. Another swig. The phonograph sits in the corner. I rustle through me 78's and wind up the phonograph. This takes some effort so another swig for strength.

And then I see 'em. Me beloved collection of Val Doonican records. Possibly the greatest Irish traditionalist the world has ever seen to be sure!

So I puts on one o' me favourites. It takes some time to find, mind, so another swig as a reward. I place it somewhat precariously on the phonograph's turntable and drop the needle clumsily on what I think is the outer rim of the record. Where did I leave that bottle? Ah, there you are you little minx!

I collapse into me armchair, clutching me bottle, and as the first scratchy notes reverberate into me earholes me eyes well up into tears and any crankiness I may have had disappear, replaced by melancholy, sadness, regrets and unfulfilled dreams.

And that song is this ....

Just quietly, I must admit I like a bit of lederhosen and accordion. I often thrill the chicks at my local club! They are very appreciative if you know what I mean *wink wink*

^ that song is so sad it made me cry like a girl when she wants something.

This one 'ere I dunno what it's about, it's kinda a bit obscure, but I dig the groove.

There'll be fifteen minutes of kissin'
Then you'll holler "Please don't stop" (Don't stop!)
There'll be fifteen minutes of teasin'
Fifteen minutes of squeezin'
And fifteen minutes of blowin' my top

Deep deep lyrics there .....:-)

I guess I mean the vocalist (whoever he is?) sounds like fingernails across a blackboard (if anyone remembers those?). Apart from that the whole production and song (if you can call it that) is so mawkish as to make me feel physically ill. Don't get me started on princess hair metal guitar solos. That's a whole other story.

It's almost as bad as anything REO Speedwagon ever did. No, wrong. Just as bad.

Minus 5 stars. Pathetic.

I really don't like it.

Labi Siffre - 1971

Under rated artist in my opinion... British Ska band Madness do a good cover but personally I prefer the original.

Some Canadian New Wave cool from 1980 - Martha & the Muffins

That Labi Siffre song is fantastic. Great bass lines. And a simple but elegant guitar break. 5 stars.

And of course Echo Beach is a pop classic.

When I need to relax, and boy in this crazy world, that's often, I like to go full brazilian bossa nova cool with head wobble.

@ST_Catchov Love Lou Rawls version of this tune... Although I love almost everything Lou sings to be fair!

Pretty amazing production with maestro David Axelrod - 1970

Pretty sure I’ve posted this before, but this is the what are you listening to thread, and I’m repetitive in my music, so deal with it.

Thanks for this Girl on Ipanema, one of my favorites from this years and an excellent mix of images of snow and beach  ........

Also probably the best of Astrud Gilberto who never reached this level after !

Another one I love -from the 40

's/50's- is Helen O'Connell :

Nice you appreciate, those Big Bands and associated singers were really  awakening -and after the swings, the Slow-  to forget the real world..... some of the best records are from WWII era (well, some young fit men were still at home, when others....)

Beat Combo's ....

You really can't beat a bit of Polka with maestro accordion. I heard Rammstein did a version but can't find it.

One of my favourite violin pieces,  "Méditation", from the opera "Thaïs" by French composer Jules Massenet. Still an absolute banger 129 years later... (1894)

A nice rendition by Arabella Steinbacher and the Monte-Carlo philharmonic orchestra.
