itsbillyfrazier Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 It's Friday, so I reckon it's a good time for a slice of some classic synth pop cheese from 1979. Produced by Giorgio Moroder (Absolute legend in my eyes!, His stamp is all over this track, but man does he rock it from about 3m.30sec in, Ah-maze-ball-Z ?) Sparks were supposedly a big influence on Manchester bands; Joy Division/New Order and The Smiths. (For those that may care) . 1
itsbillyfrazier Posted May 29, 2021 Posted May 29, 2021 (edited) @cardboard_killer - Thanks for the heads up, I was unaware a Sparks documentary is in the works. Edited May 29, 2021 by itsbillyfrazier
Stoopy Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 A quick 3-pack of the mighty Greg Koch & crew....(actually the drummer is his son)...
itsbillyfrazier Posted June 6, 2021 Posted June 6, 2021 A nice soulful disco number from Otis Clay (written by George Jackson) which never quite had the success it deserved when released in 1980. It would later become a massive hit for Yazz and The Plastic Population with their synth pop version a mere 8 years later. I guess it would be rude to not include the much more widely known Yazz version, which I only recently discovered was produced by electronic duo Coldcut. I've long admired these guys, much for their own work, but even more so for their Ninja Tunes label and the artists which it introduced to a more youthful me back in the early 90's/00's. And to help wind down after all that Yazz.... a melancholic chill classic by electronic maestros; Coldcut (2004. Irresistible force remix) and their electronic interpretation of a jazz standard first released in 1945 by Joseph Kosma/Jacques Prevert, Autumn Leaves. And to finish with something nice from the Ninja Tunes label: 1

cardboard_killer Posted June 28, 2021 Posted June 28, 2021 [80 years ago today] "• Dutch bandleader Ernst Van 't Hoff had been ordered to play only German approved music shortly after the fall of the Netherlands. He will continually be taken into custody by the state police, reprimanded, and released for playing degenerate ‘negermusik’ such as the below number which is recorded today. " - He will ultimately be dismissed from his position in 1944, and resume playing after the liberation. " 1
