707shap_Srbin Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 VVS pilot with Yellow spinner hub = was really a suicidal guy. Or just an idiot Remember guys - Germans, all possible means, were avoiding using red color in their markings. VVS guys were always avoiding using Yellow color for fast identification markings.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 If I remember correctly this went in effect from the middle of 1942 onwards, no? Pokryshkin had a yellow spinner on his MiG in 1942, 55 IAP used yellow rudder markings on I-16s before the war, and I think some ChF regiments had yellow tail markings even in 1943. As you noted those were exceptions, of course. This LaGG-3 looks like a grey spinner though.
707shap_Srbin Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Spectre mate, for You: colors for Photoshop are here: https://yadi.sk/d/sb1LjdvXreASf Same regiment: 9 IAP VVS Black Sea Fleet. 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Wasn't that LaGG-3 in Moscow today painted like the n.24 Spektre is skinning actually?
707shap_Srbin Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Pokryshkin had a yellow spinner on his MiG in 1942, No, he was not. There are no even one avoable photo of Pokryshkin's MiG. Only speculative color profile rooting back in mid-90's.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted May 11, 2016 Posted May 11, 2016 Thanks for the information, it's good to know! Last off-topic question, is it known if the spinner was AMT-4 or A-11? I need to re-do a couple of our MiG-3 skins now, you see

Rook Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 W.I.P. generic skins inspired by Mironov's LaGG-3 with the black star. Skins will be released in very good shape, with a decent amount of weathering, numbers will be 1-16, two different camo versions and the winter edition (could look like this, pic below) 8
616Sqn_Johnny-Red Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Great stuff Rook! An entire V.P. Mironov themed regiment. When I first saw your post as an email notifaction I thought; what does he mean? "numbers I-16" has the man bumped his head? Now I get it. (1-16 doh!) If only we could assign skins individually to aircraft like in the Classic Il-2 Mission Builder - then we could do this regiment project some serious justice Also, on the Mironov front, if there's anything I can help with; i.e. colour map layers from the skin I made originally, PM me or gimme a shout in the forums. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/uploads/monthly_02_2016/post-16789-0-33802200-1456099943.jpg http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/uploads/monthly_02_2016/post-16789-0-21801800-1456099974.jpg Really looking forward to the day when I can see all 16 (or even 17) individually marked aircraft in battle formation. Rook Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Thanks Johnny, additional colour maps or number fonts etc would be great , i will never say no, if you want to share them I will release the skins with the template itself (gimp file), so erveryone are free use it for additional skinning (i add more than 25 weathering layers and an updated wireframe to the skin, most with 20% transparency, when you carefully look you can see them).

szelljr Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 .......I think is too much...hot rod paint in 1943??...c moon...(hihihihihi.........hihihi....)
szelljr Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Unit: unknownSerial: unknownDuring the Spring of 1942, a Soviet pilot of a regiment based in Far East defected and made a wheels-up landing near Chiasmus, in Manchukuo. The aircraft was captured by Japanese. They repaired the aircraft and started an evaluation flights cycle, whose supervisor was Major Yamamoto of the Army Test Center. These test were made from the Mutanchiang Air Base, in Manchuria. The Japanese test pilots were not satisfied with the LaGG-3's performances and flight characteristics; the difference in handling and wing load with A6M Zero and other typical Japanese fighters was enormous. 2
Trooper117 Posted August 25, 2017 Posted August 25, 2017 For some strange reason you are making me want to fly a LaGG!
PatCartier Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) Another one. Two are still missing to complet the whole set > http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/lagg3/44iap/44iap.html Edited August 28, 2017 by PatCartier 3
616Sqn_Johnny-Red Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) Beautiful work Pat - truly authentic feel. Very attractive hand painted effect on those letters. The impact well justifies the effort. Also thank you for the links to your visual references. A lot of artists (me included) are often reduced to working from either elderly colour plates or the work of scale modellers. Photographic references are priceless. 13Nrv Posted August 29, 2017 Posted August 29, 2017 Probably the most "real sounding" skins i ve seen so far , Outstanding ! "de la belle ouvrage !"
